In general it’s ill advised to use live goldfish for bait since if they somehow get off the hook and escape they can result in an invasive species issue. If it was just one fish from one guy no problem but if multiple people do it and they start breeding they can potentially outcompete whatever native fish fill the same ecological niche as goldfish (to the point of local extinction in the worst case scenario). I get the urge tho I wanted to as well until I learned about it. I get it’s not banned everywhere but it’s hard to predict what the downstream consequences of non native introductions can be, silver carp and kudzu being prime examples in the US
