When you're looking for drill bits to go through tile, you want to look at ones that say 'masonry'. Screwfix is a good place, they usually tell you exactly what each bit is meant for. Those hand held drills aren't really meant for this kind of work either, so it will be a struggle. Also if you're doing a 5ml hole, a 6 ml wall plug is correct. You want the plug to squeeze in to stop it moving, if it were the same size as the hole it would just wiggle around! Small tip, not only for tiles. Drill a pilot or guide hole first, a 3mm and then follow up with a 5mm, it'll be much easier!

Thanks mate. I ended up figuring out that I could start the hole with the arrow shaped bits and use one of the diamond bits to do the rest quicker (I even recorded a little video). I'll have to get one of them bosch bits and see if it's better to start off with, then I could do another video 😂

Great video you're brave trying to do this yourself! To anyone watching remember showers are a lot more tricky than dishwashers and washing machines, doing one from scratch (as opposed to replacing one) is quite major work with wiring from fuse box and the work needs inspecting by building regulations inspector or you can't insure/rent or sell a property without the paperwork so best to use professional. It's not expensive I had a quote £200 typical price for a new fit same day too, can be less if you use someone local. When I saw the blowtorch first thing I thought about when said about using it upside down with the electric cables so near above is the risk of heat melting the flex on wires!! A safer way to do that would be tape a sheet of something fire/heat-resistant over those electric cables before using a blow torch to protect them from getting melted, as is easily done from the video accident!

Welcome back! This was really interesting, thanks. I'm planning to put a shower into a new bathroom on my top floor and I am in early planning stages, no idea how things work in the UK, absolutely no idea whether I can have a regular shower or if I need a power shower. I see those a lot over here and I'm hoping I don't need one because I have really good water pressure, including for hot water... but I clearly need to do a lot more research. I'm not even sure why people choose power showers over regular hot/cold supplies. The shower looks great!

This is the first time I've fitted an electric shower, I've done 3 others in my life with thermostatic mixer bars. I suppose the benefit in an electric one is you only have to run a cold feed (that's all I have 😂). Sounds like you will be good to go for a standard mixer set up though 👍

@@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT there is central heating pipes in the same bathroom
@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT2 жыл бұрын
@@Milo_ko1 if you have copper pipes somewhere in your property they normally need to be earthed in just one place. It's something referred to as bonding. If you check your consumer unit you should have an earth block with a 10mm earth wire (yellow and green) which will run to a copper water pipe and will be connected with an earth bonding clamp/strap. Gas pipes are also normally bonded too. There are some occasions when your pipework doesn't need bonding like in my lodge. The incoming water pipe is plastic and everything else is plastic apart from the small bits that come out the wall and a 2m section where I put the stopcock in. Despite this an electrician that installed my consumer unit wanted to bond that 2m section even though it wasn't necessary. He wanted to be on the safe side. Hope that helps.

@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT3 ай бұрын
The wiring on an electric shower needs to be rated for the maximum load/draw. So a 10.8kw needs to be 10mm with a 50amp breaker. I think if you run it on 6mm the wire can get really hot 🔥 which I wouldn't say is particularly safe

@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT2 жыл бұрын
Hey, I think maybe I would be lead by the roofing contractor on this one in a way. If you get them to supply and fit they can do it at the reduced rate of 5% vat. If you buy the product for the contractor to fit you would have to pay the full vat. Although net net its the same at the end it's good to have less upfront costs. The contractors will have certain suppliers they use on the regular, or will have certain experience using a particular system and its always a risk trying to get a good job out of them for a material they don't usually use. Get in as many quotes as you possibly can (go for 10, you will probably only get a couple back!) and then go from there. Manufacturers can sometimes point you in the direction of their suppliers/installers. A guy named Luke asked me about my roof many months ago, I warned him about what might go wrong and guess what, it did! He needed another 10 sheets at very short notice (because it was worked out wrong like I said would happen 🤦♂️), the lead time was 6+weeks. I had 11 sheets left and by pure luck it turned out his barn was 10 minutes down the road! His roofing contractor still didn't finish everything properly and made a pigs ear of the reveals. This was because they wasn't used to using the product for something residential.

Why didn't you push the "push fit fitting" on the copper pipe that was poking out the wall, then simply offer the shower assy up to the nut of the push fit fitting & tighten it into the 1/2" thread. !!! Also when using solder joints use should set the flame low to prevent burning the surroundings, the flame is 600c it'll melt the solder but having the flame set lower puts you in more control. Good on you for trying tho lots of people dont bother.. 👍
@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT Жыл бұрын
There wasn't enough room for the push fitting to go on the pipe, I think you need a massive hole in the back and a pipe that's not fixed. Good tip on using a smaller flame 👍 I didn't even think to turn the gas down 😂
