Another great video Alex. My 2007 CLK 550 is just about to hit 101k, I love it more everyday. Comfortable enough around town, even on craggy LA roads. Wonderful on the highway, and lively enough for a regular canyon run. It would cost more than a car to get another parking space here... But why would I need another car?

I didn't have a car or license for 5 years and haven't owned a decent car in 20 years. Last year, I started looking at C-class; under $15k, just looking on Carguru at the listings over and over...and then I saw a C55 locally. Mint condition, 97k miles and as I read the description and did some research I said to myself, "This car is special". I never even heard of it before. Got my license back in June 2017, bought my ride the next day. I have driven 35k miles in the last 13 months and OMG Becky, I love my car. 90% of that mileage has been on the highway, mostly at night and I can't tell you how pleasureable it is to really drive a car, at 95, 105 110 mph for extended periods of time. Most people don't DRIVE their cars, they just ride around in them; I GET TO DRIVE!!...i really appreciate this series of videos

I bought my first Mercedes about 10 years ago. It was a little C Class and I fell in love. Since then I have owned 4 E Classes and in my opinion, Mercedes makes very reliable cars. If you can do maintenance yourself, it's cheaper to maintain than a Honda Civic.
@mcearl80736 жыл бұрын
Richard how do you figure that? I can see it being cheaper if you compare DIY on thtools Mercedes and take the Civic to a dealer for service but otherwise it’s definitely not cheaper. Mine takes like 8.5 qts of oil, a filter that’s 2x a Honda filter, 2x batteries that aren’t cheap. 2 spark plugs per cylinder and they are over 7 bucks a pop. That said, it’s not really a big deal, I’d much rather pay the extra and drive a Mercedes than save a little and drive s civic. I also realize a lot of people will be cheap and buy the cheapest plugs and oil and aftermarket parts to save some money but I’m not convinced yet that that is a great idea. I tried getting a cheap fuel pump and a lot of the parts didn’t fit right so I ended up having to do a lot of modifications on it and now I honestly don’t have a ton of confidence in it. I think in the future I’m going to try to stick with manufacturer recommended parts when I can, if there’s a significant difference in price then maybe I’ll risk it depending on what it is.

I drove a c240 97 model. I put 100k in that car. Owned it twice too. Thanks to you and a previous vid where you flipped three mercs, I got involved in mechanics during lock down. My engine was the m112, the baby 6v - I had to buy two Haynes manuals as this was the first model, 2.8 litre model that had this engine. I bought all the hits in the U.K. - I had that car working so sweet. Did regular oil changes, changed all o2 sensors. All spark plugs. The oil cooler gaskets that had plasticised. Torqued all engine bolts as over time they had worked loose, even replaced the intake fan clutch. Sorted an ignition coil. Patched up some exhaust holes. Tightened up the exhaust struts and supports. Even changed the serpentine belt. I remember doing all this work on it and I drove for three miles to test it, went round a round about, heard all this screeching. I looked about - it was just me on the road. It was like driving a comfortable couch. One that could easily hit 110mph. I miss that car. It was so easy to work on.

So glad the oil filter housing, etc. is same design as on the m112 in my w220 s320. My mum "broke down" tonight and I believe it's the massive amount of oil on the drive belt that is causing it to slip and not power the alternator. I believe the leak is one of these common ones.

you can also replace the MAF seals, the come cheap and there are three different versions, each one with increase number of grooves so it will seal better. And finally do a vacuum leakdown test. Just to make sure. And i would be using a wooden pry tool so i won't be risking damaging the covers. But then again i did this on the E not on the C class, so more room to work.

Hi Alex, keep up the great work... I assumed modern Mercs were far too complex, expensive and so forth for just about any home repairs.... Even moreso for AMGs! Your videos and referrals to affordable parts are pretty incredible. It's not quite a mid-90s Toyota........... @LegitStreetCars6 жыл бұрын
Rob T I like to use 5w40 on higher mileage cars. You can use either 0 or 5w40. No testing or scientific backing on my part for the liqui moly. I'd use Mobile 1, or any major synthetic brand. Ive just been getting liqui moly lately with my orders from FCP and since so many other German car guys use it, I said why not. Fun fact, when I was a dealer tech we used Valvoline synthetic on cars out of warranty because it was slightly cheaper then mobil 1 and it had the same specifications.

LegitStreetCars Thanks for getting back to me. Good insight. I bought an ‘05 C55 in December. Glad to see this series you’re doing. One more question. How many labor hour(s) is it to change all eight of the ignition coils on a C55 do you think?
@nickgough69046 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, while I cannot speak to the V-8s with coil packs and Alex is a professional mechanic (I would ultimately defer to his wise advice), I would imagine that replacement is only necessary if there is a misfire. When we purchased our 98 SLK 230k from the original owner, we drive it back from Atlanta. It had a major flat spot in acceleration but still cruised at 70+mph and got 30mpg. When I tore into it, I noticed a coil pack which was not able to seat itself properly on the spark plug. No matter what I did with the coil, it wouldn't snap onto the plug. So, I installed a new one, and with 4 new plugs, new filters, an oil change and new serpentine belt and new oil in the compressor, that car began to run really well. It is not terribly powerful (190hp or so) out of 2.3L, but it is terrific fun to drive, especially with the top down. Sorry, I digressed.

I like how you present your videos, thx for explaining. I have issue with my w211 E500 importedfrom Japan. I found oil in my radiator tank. Most people say that it is from oil cooler (I checked my oil cooler looks exactly like your). What can you advise me? What is reason? How to fix it properly and cheap? Thanking in advance.
@mercedesbenzspecialist6 жыл бұрын
Alex, love this video. I have an 2005 E500. It does not have the oil cooler attached to the oil filter housing like your E55. Although, there is always a few drops of fresh oil dripping off of the AC compressor bolt just like the one you showed in this video. I checked the timing cover expansion plug and that doesn't seem to be the culprit. I've already taken care of the valve cover gaskets and breather cover. The AC compressor is clean and shiny from the top, it's just dripping down that long bolt, but i'm pretty sure it's engine oil and not compressor oil. The oil pan gasket seems to be below the point of the source of the oil leak. Have any idea where it may be coming from?

Iam planing for e240 or e350 2004 if I get a clean one I’ll take it it’s nice and easy to work in w211 Mercedes But don’t like sbc faults and coolant mixing with transmission issues

Hello, I just got an error code of P2279 on my 2014 e350 sedan. Intake system air leak. What options do I have in order to repair my vehicle. Btw thank you for all you do for the community of DIY.

at the end of the video when you were talking about the mass air flow sensor, any suggestions what could cause oil to be leaking onto the engine in the middle right in front of the air flow sensor, there's a cavity on the engine I notice oil collecting and its burning with engine temp (smoking) but i can't tell where its coming from. It can't be the breather or the two plugs on the back they too far away it looks like for the oil coming from there, plus it doesn't look like there's any oil leaking from any of those 3 places. thoughts?

Are the valve covers made of aluminum or a magnesium metal and/or blend? I'd like to paint mine but want to confirm they're aluminum. Thanks!

What do you think about replacing the spark plug cassettes and mosfit transistors yourself in the V12 coil packs instead of spending $1300 per coil pack?

For a beginner DIYer - where do I get the service manual to know the parts used, layout and assembly? It could be for engine, steering, electrical systems , brakes etc. Looking for that website or info to get a service manual for my 2014 E250 sedan so that I can start some DIY maintenance. Thanks.
