Alex, dielectric grease is exactly that, dielectric. It is an insulating grease. That stuff should be used after the termination is made. The terminal should make dry solid contact with source of power then apply dielectric to the termination. A lot of folks apply that stuff to battery terminals before installing the battery cable when it is intended to be applied after the cable is already installed and tight.

Yes!! Insulator not isolator!! I do use it on electrical plugs and spark plug boots among other places but not on battery terminals. Just my preference.unless you want old junk but otherwise just always Use a terminal isolator and good, clean, tight terminals and you will never see any build up of acids. Another good idea is to ALWAYS on aluminum heads use a very small amount of antiseize on spark plug threads so that you can safely achieve proper torque on plugs and later be removed!! And for header/mani. Bolts/studs I always use either Stainless steel spray or zinc spray on fasteners b4 and after installation! Old timer trick that was passed to me years ago lol! And don't forget to isolate your plug wires for passive interference reduction. Haha

Alex with those O ring kits I have found that if you buy the metric set as well as the Imperial one you will see that the metric ones are on the cross section, that they are considerably thinner. And you can use that to your advantage in this case. I'm not sure if they are marketed imperial and metric in the US, but they are here in the UK and I have both sets. Saved my bacon many times lol

Great job getting that beauty back on the road. She sounds mean as hell!

Hi alex i wanted to point out that at 43:55 you shouldn't put dialectric grease inside where the spark plug mount into the boot . Dialectric grease are an electrical isolator not a conductor so you want it all around the electrical connection for it to not jump into near by metal surfaces but not directly between the 2 connection ie the boot and the spark plug end . It will make it harder for spark to go through the isolator
@davelowets
@davelowets Жыл бұрын
Huh?? It's SUPPOSED to go inside the rubber boot. The grease makes it easier to install and remove, and it seals the boot to help keep the moisture out, and the spark in. Where do YOU think you are supposed to put it, all over the outside of it? 😕🤦🏻
@Dh.p3
@Dh.p3 Жыл бұрын
@@davelowets not outside . he should cover the walls inside the boot or cover the white porcelain part of the spark plug with the grease before installing the boot on the spark plug , and being carefull not to put the grease where the spark plug metal end meets with the matal wire inside the boot and grease becomes between the two connectors . If that happen the grease will isolate electricity between the two connections because its an isolator. Thats what i mean .

I enjoy this series because it's very familiar from my time working in a small garage in the late 90s. I had 1 customer that was a judge and she always liked her corvettes and vipers. I was in my 20s and looked like I was in my teens. She was very worried I was too young to know how to tune up her cars. Once after a brake job. I gave her a few old bolts I had in our stock and said " I have a few extra for some reason" She went into my bosses office and yelled at him. But then realized I pranked her. I became her favorite.

Hey Alex, an easy way to deal with a locking gas cap that you don't have a key for is with a radiator hose removal tool. Or any tool that is like a heavy duty pick shapes like a hook. Just run the hook under the cap and lift up around the outer edge and the cap will come right off .

Absolutely love this car & I am so glad you are doing right by it. The plug wires & all the insulation worry me a bit, but I guess it's there for a reason based on the melted parts.. lol

Now, this is more like it. I had no idea how the injectors machine worked, now I know. Getting one myself. Hopefully I'll love it as much lol. This was very interesting and entertaining. Thank you guys!!

I don’t know how you haven’t gotten to 1M subs yet Alex! I started watching you a few years ago for the MB content, but I have also loved watching you venture into other makes and models. Please keep the awesome information coming. Amazing content

Hope Peter gets well soon so he can witness the dyno readings on this supercharged C4. He was still smiling even though he was ill.

Especially given that the cleaner/tester machine "recycles" the working fluid, it's a bit surprising there's no filter on the line feeding the rail.

There are actually baskets pressed into top of injectors. They are meant to be replaced

@@richardstockwell4862 Yeah, but good engineering practice eliminates debris as early as possible. Not including a visible, easily replaceable inline grit filter is just poor design, IMHO.

Watching you guys deal with these spark plugs makes me so thankful for my 4.6L Ford 2v and 5.7L Hemi plugs. Right on top by the intake manifold and right thru the valve cover! lol

Dont be so thankful for the Ford.... The earlier ones had a tendency to blow the plugs right out of those "easy to reach" heads, and take all the threads along with it. 👎

I love this content tbh and the LT1 is such an unloved engine due to optispark. Maybe you could try one of those Opti Deletes that lets you run LS style coil on plugs and a modern ecu for tuning? I think that alone and a wideband would give you plenty of headroom to build an awesome streetcar! as always enjoying the vids!

I have that opti delete coilpack system on my 383 stroker LT1 and it works great....it runs on LS7 coilpacks.
