Thanks for this kind of vid Ziz, I'm following your lacerate glad and struggling a bit. It's not that we don't watch the build guides but at a certain point it gets very over whelming. The most helpful part of this I think is the trade site tutorial. I very often 'know' what I need, life and resists, but if I search for the specific mods on a specific base, I end up getting insanely priced results. Learning how to properly use the filters to find good deals on upgrades goes a LONG way for a newer player.

The problem is suppression gear is usually really overpriced. You'll have people selling a T1 suppression roll with maybe one resist roll for a couple divines. Since there's no way to really craft for it besides spamming shit this is what we get.

@@gundamnit3594 You're not wrong, feel like I can't afford decent defensive gear, and without it I just die. Not quite sure what to do about it as a newer player other than "Guess I'll die". I get the, not frustration, but puzzled feeling how they got so jumbled up on this but as someone who only recently started to really learn the game better I completely understand where they are coming from. POE is like a juggling waiter (or a programmer as I've heard). You are given 1 problem to solve, you solve that problem and now you have a bunch more. It takes awhile to get fully used to it and understanding how everything pieces together. There was legit such a long period of time where every league I would spend a full night of 4hrs playing and all I was doing is trying to figure out "Okay I need these resistances still but I also need these base stats (str/dex/int) for my gear/gems. I gotta make sure everything pieces together right" Early on especially learning the game there is so many times where I bought gear because it had good resistances on it, realized I now need other resistances now that I didn't because my other item in that slot had that other res type, and now I have to buy another piece of gear to balance that. Being more experienced with the game now that's all 2nd nature now and getting res capped, having all the stats I need and understanding how a build pieces together isn't hard for me.

You 2 guys responding are so dumb. The hard stuff he's talking about is litteraly how to buy the stuff that is interesting and good, and how to manage your stats. The guide doesn't talk about that, except "this item need that explicit". It takes time to learn. The firsts time I traded I myself had a hard time to search for the items, and I forgot several times that the item I bought, was gonna replace the stats of my old one (I capped a res just to uncap an other res because I didn't think about it). It takes time to get use to it. You need to check the level and stat requirement, the stats it gives for your gems, the res, the maximum life, the life regen maybe, the armor or evasion, the attack damage, the upgrade you can yourself give to the item...

First of all, your videos are incredible Ziz and your value to gaming communities is immeasurable, so thank you for all your thankless work. I think I can shed some light on why the videos didn't help this fella as I was/is in the same position as well. I'm a veter ARPG player but always bailed on POE before late game because it is so daunting. I try to watch all you videos and Raxx's and I really struggle to follow because of the short-hand terminology that is second nature to vet POE players, but very foreign to us new players; implicit, prefix, suffix, etc etc. I have a fairly high level couple toons because this season is so awesome and I love the POE devs, but I am too afraid to craft as I don't wan to waste precious resources. At the moment I just farm chaos and use that to buy new gear and hoard all my materials until I have a better understanding.

All this to say, learning POE is one of the hardest things I've ever done and in many ways THE hardest and most confusing. But also one of the most rewarding. Ziz has a series of videos called POE University, you can find them in his playlists. He does a few each league and since they're the basics of the game they should be generally applicable to leagues that come after they were made. In the case of that weapon, essences will give you a better result, but in the beggining a rare you found on the ground + benchcraft can get you pretty far, at least to the point you can Farm those essences to beggin with. Heck, you can even alt spam for flaring on a hight enoght base, regal and Hope you either land a good mod or finish the craft with the bench. Look for a PoB guide. You can import your character to it and do all kinds of testing, like what gems to go for, how much DPS/survivability you'll get for any given item (you can ctrl C an item from in-game or trade into it, 2 clicks), test passive tree changes, etc, you can do everything and it'll easily tell you what to go for first. No new player should be scared of PoB, it doesn't make the game harder or more complex, it makes the game INFINITELY EASIER to figure out, it's like a superpower, it's literally like having a calculator when dealing with a complex math problem, over having to math it out in your head (basically not possible).

I am not following this build but I am making my own and I like to read it to know how and when to progress. A lot of the stuff in the guide is for people who already know how to do something. For example, you mention use "x" item, you arent really telling people how to get it. Some people might just wait until it drops. Most of the stuff is go on trade site. But like how to get a high quality axe? You also mention a lot on crafting but they gotta farm up the currency. For example, you also mention in I believe the part of crafting the weapon, to make it so Prefixes cannot be changed. They might have not even unlocked that. Or can have up to 3 crafted modifiers. The game does tell you where to get it, "technically" but to a new player the name of the unique map might not mean much to a new player. Perhaps is a bit too much to explain every single thing under each section but you also mention Harvest craft. They might not even know what Harvest really is or is used for, or how to go about farming it. Now I assume not everyone will have all of these issues just some. But im sure some dude is still waiting to drop a high % quality axe.

I'm pretty new as well, and your build guide videos and PoB notes are no doubt excellent for veteran players, but not so much for new folks. I have about 75 hours in so far, with maybe 40 or so of that in last season. I'm following your FrostBolt/Nova Heirophant build, and you just don't explain well enough about the transition from Rolling Magma to Firestorm. What gems in that transition are important (since I don't have anything better than a 4 link yet), what skill path should I be following in this mid range and so on (for example, how do I jump from that level 31 passive map to the level 55 one, which route to follow first)? It's easy for you to say "oh, for campaign, just focus on life, mana, and resists", but that does not really help us non-speed runners. And, I don't think you ever mentioned - oh, this build relies on two transfigured gems, which can be a RNGfest, here's how to handle that. Or exactly when and where you should cast the other powers (if ever) - like your mid-range build has Conductivity - do I need that and when)? I am enjoying the build and am getting through content, currently in Act 4, because I'm not racing through. I'm probably over-leveled for where I am, but at some point, that's going to catch up. So just maybe add a little more explanation somewhere, in video or in build, and be cognizant of the inexperienced users too. Or do a MaxRoll guide maybe? I do appreciate the hard work and time you've put in on these builds, so thank you very much for them!

Man his builds are specifically for new folks. They are the most hand holding and with tons of notes that explain almost everything. If he doesn't tell you which points to take first probably doesn't matter. The ice nova build btw like he says in the video is not his, it's goratha's, which caters to more experienced players and still has a lot of notes. I'm not sure what do you expect a build guide to do.

Couldn’t agree more. This is great as I’m pretty much in the same boat! Content creators with thousands of hours think things are super clear (and they are for people with a lot of hours in the game) but the notes and guide are extremely not beginner friendly. The massive jumps between levels within pob and even the guide is so confusing to new people. And then they get mad when we say that. Poe sure isn’t for the faint of heart.

Poe is not beginner friendly at all 😢. Unfortunately every hour you spend ingame probably you need least 5-10hrs outside of the game learn the mechanics and the basics. Few things to note : -act 1 to 10 is tutorial and you can finish it with a 4link of any skill... The actual game starts t14 maps and upwards. -75% resistance is mandatory after you finished act 10. Chaos resistance least 30-40% if you don't want to die from poison or chaos. - Have a bleed, poison and elemental ailments removal flask or talent. -before picking a build check out the gear /gem prices (most of the flashy builds pretty meh until a certain amount of investment)

I think the one thing ive learned about POE as a some what new player who was always on and off is to not dive too deep into POE. The one thing that as always turned me off from POE is the community/guides being someone who spent maybe 2k hours in ESO from beta till the launch of warden it was very easy to understand how crafting/loot hunting worked. Build guides were understandable. personally think POE build guides are like more leaning towards vet players and them having an understand of what is what and how you got to what. POE is complex but i think most guide video dont help new players understand anything besides "this is what you want" not nesscary how you should get there. POE is literally just a game with so much shit to learn and understand and know the ins and outs of how to do things, and oh btw you should run this item fliter and btw you need to understand how to properly use the item fliter for your build you want specifically, oh and than you got to use like these 5 websites and understand how they work, oh and also we dont got an in game marketplace so heres a forum marketplace or a macro bind whatever the fuck that is. Oh than you need to have fully completed all acts ( i think ) to know wtf everything the game as to offer completely.

@@Cantatosyeah. Melee is the most expensive thing this league. It's a buffed niche so it's going to be. Especially this build or ground slam. These 2 are the most expensive builds in the game with belt and amulet and weapon and gloves. Pure Phys weapons were always harder to craft despite 3 ele dmg bows. People just get baited in "cheap league starter builds" by 95% of the content creators because they dropped a 400 DPS one hand or a 600 DPS 2hand in the first 3 days. That's what the real problem is. People expect that damage and wondering why they die with 60% less dps. Or in a shield throw bleed that is just garbage at best. Ziz did his job this league pretty well

PoE Guides are just not that ideal in general for new players. They learn 1000 answers to questions they didnt ask in the first place so the learning experience is somewhat skewed. Ive a friend who plays since 3 Leagues and always follows guides religiously. He quitted his Leaguestarter this Leauge because 'the build is bad because he didnt get enough resistance by the end of the campaign'. He is seems to be completly helpless to solve the easiest problems despite being deeper into endgame as me last League. One funny thing was when he tried Dex Stacking Ballista, and his first purchase was a perfect rain of splinters (30%) for like 5 div. He could have bought so much with that money, but the guide had a 30% one - so he also had to have the 30% one.

Ziz, a prop following: I guess people forget how much info you need to have - and you don't - to craft your own things as a beginner. That's guides out there, but it's hard to grasp how to control the affix of the crafting. Even the guides itself does't proper show how to start and finish the craft. Like: ultil yesterday, I wasn't sure if an item with the veiled, could be rolled out the afflix and still keep the veiled withou revealing it. Had to learn that you don't the hard way. We miss a lot how to do proper beginner crafting from base lvl and what you get. When you use essence, when you use delve, when you use veiled, when you just spam alteration. Like, it's a lot. Break it down for us as a content. There's that university video. That's A LOT for an only sit down and learn everything. You just don't get it all at once. ok, i need a weapon and a shield. the resistances to go after t16 we learn as we die and improve. so heres a dedicated video for str weapon, shield, wand, how to proper 6 link a bow without only spamming 1k orb of fusing. things like that. small, pills of knowledge, that we can learn, try, see the outcome, and come with the knowledge for the next video, with the context that we've tried and from test and outcome, learned the result. Anyway. TL/DR. You said you wanted to learn. Hope it helps somehow. And yes, I'm dying more than you do. 237 times in my league starter atm. kkkkrying
