I just got Invisalign for my over bite and I still couldn’t comprehend how they were ever going to fix it, but seeing this video and hearing from another video that each aligner moves about 1/4 a millimeter, makes sense.

Glad the video helped! In general, it's about 0.25mm or 1 degree rotation per tray. We don't want teeth moving too fast ... that's called extraction. Good luck with your Invisalign.

I never had an open bite until after traditional braces. My orthodontist removed my braces before they should’ve come off, unfortunately. It was during the pandemic and I think he was trying to get all cases wrapped up, and now I live two states away so there’s nothing I can do about it with that ortho office. It’s not 6mm but it is noticeable enough and I feel like from the side view you can really see my teeth pointing out at an angle. I recently saw a dentist for an exam and he mentioned Invisalign could help, so here I am scouring the internet for successful cases before I sink more money into my smile. Thanks for this hopeful video.

It looks like her front teeth are pulled down and out from her gums a bit because of the treatment. Wouldn't that cause major sensitivity? Will she need to have her gums grafted?
@drpassamano
@drpassamano 7 ай бұрын
Great question! If tooth movement is normal speed, then the gum tissue travels with the tooth. That recession you are seeing was already there. I've seen this patient for multiple follow ups over the last few years and there is no issue with sensitivity and no plans for gum grafting. Thanks for asking!

Hello! I live in Uk and I had a orthodontist appointment and they said If I want my open bite to be fixed o need to have braces AND jaw surgery right now I am 16, so when I do get this surgery I’ll have to be 18. But I don’t want to risk damaging anything with this surgery so I’m trying to find better options and possibly more natural ways.
@drpassamano
@drpassamano 11 ай бұрын
Hello! I would suggest getting a 2nd or 3rd opinion to see what other options you have. Orthodontists have many different ways to treat patients successfully using different methods. Invisalign Open Bite treatment is relatively new (< 10 years) so it may take time before it becomes the top recommended treatment for open bites. Surgery was the top recommended method for decades. Good luck!!!

Hi Dr. My mom already had a partial denture for front 4 teeth in upper jaw for nearly 17 years. Now the teeth near that dentures tips are broken only root is left 5 teeth around those area. Now our doctor suggesting we have to remove those with teeth extraction surgery at one go and later after a month we can have a complete denture for upper jaw. Is this the right procedure??
@drpassamano
@drpassamano 3 ай бұрын
Great question! That is usually a question for your general dentist. Extractions and Dentures are usually procedures with your normal dentist. If you are unsure about the treatment plan, then I suggest you get a 2nd or 3rd opinion before you remove teeth. Once you remove teeth, you can't put them back. Natural teeth are generally always better than fake teeth. You may see a decline in health with good teeth are removed. Be slow to make this decision. Wishing your mom all the best!

My orthodontist says wisdom both side must be removed for invisalign. My gap is about 6-7 mm (not sure if that right measurement) so has me priced for a 3 year plan..and says if bite is fixed before then i would still have to make payments I keep seeing everyone saying removing wisdom has sid effects He said if its not removed..it can be guaranteed that smile csn be fixed with either braces & invisalign
@drpassamano
@drpassamano 7 ай бұрын
It sounds like Invisalign could work great for you! The goal of open bite closure is to shorten the wedge (like a cheese wedge). The wisdom teeth can account for a big percentage of your open bite and removing them would help close the front teeth anterior open bite. This patient did not have wisdom teeth, but if she did, then I would likely have recommended removal. Remember, you only have to take out either the upper or lower wisdom teeth, not mandatory for both even though all 4 is usually recommended. 2 wisdom teeth would be needed for the mechanics. These open bite closures take time so a 3 year plan sounds normal. Try seeing another orthodontist opinion so you have more education before you dive into a 3 year treatment plan. Good luck! @eliethdonnolly4256

Hi Dr. I just started Invisalign in August 2023 and Ive watched several videos regarding open bite cases. In the videos the patients had to wear rubber bands during some parts of their treatments, I asked my Dr if I would have to wear rubber bands as well but she said she hasn't added that to my plan. Is it possible to correct an overbite case without the use of rubber bands? and btw... I have attachments on most of my teeth, if I would've known ahead of time I would've opted for traditional braces.
@drpassamano
@drpassamano Жыл бұрын
Great question! Braces open bites usually require rubber bands while Invisalign open bites do not, so I think your doctor is correct with the no rubber bands. As for the attachments, I also agree with your Doctor about having attachments on ALL the front teeth. You can't move teeth up/down without them so they are absolutely necessary. You can see my patient also had attachments on all the front teeth. Based on your comment, I am in agreement with your current doctor's plan. Good luck!!!!

I have an open bite and I had 4 teeth extracted to close the bite with invisalign. I am currently in treatment and my teeth are moving, I am in week 8. The only problem that I have is that the upoer central incisors don’t want to fit properly and I have to use my chewies non stop. They didn’t put any attachments on them either, those are the only two they’re giving me trouble, do you think there’s a reason for this?
@drpassamano
@drpassamano 7 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear you're having Invisalign issues! It sounds like your orthodontist may need to add attachments on those teeth (at this time). Chewies can work, and I do recommend them, but they are used in addition to attachments. Invisalign has been around for 25 years and the usage of attachments has been going from a few teeth to almost all teeth. I think you should ask for a refinement where you can get new trays with attachments on those teeth. Good luck!!

I have an open bite (it was MUCH worse as child but I got braces when I was like 19, and rubber bands; and my bite closed a bit- but still open slightly- I’m 25 now), but my upper jaw is also still slanted. My teeth start out going in a straight direction- then they slowly start to slant downwards. My bottom jaw slants a bit to the opposite side as well. Will Invisalign help this? Or am I doomed and need jaw surgery 😪. My previous Ortho wanted to remove teeth, but I didn’t want to do that. I feel like my mouth is too small as well.

There's a few ways to close an open bite: teeth extraction, jaw surgery and now Invisalign clear aligners only. Open bite closure with Invisalign is a relatively new concept so definitely get a second or third opinion from an Invisalign Orthodontist Specialist. Check out my corrected Invisalign before/after open bites examples on my website youbraces.com/results/ (then click Open Bite tag) to see if your teeth are similar to what Invisalign can do! I hope this video helped move you closer to getting to your goal! Based on what you mentioned, it sounds like Invisalign can improve your smile so go get an evaluation!

@@drpassamanodoes invisalign fixes jaw problems caused by open bite (after the open bite is fixed)?
@drpassamano

@@yuumustaine Great question. Jaw problems are usually skeletal (bones) issues which can be fixed by an oral surgeon or not fixed (left as is). Teeth problems can be fixed with Invisalign or Braces. I do find that if you fix the teeth problems, then sometimes the jaw problems improve a little. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the comment Dr. B. It's the age-old question of chicken or the egg came first. Did the tongue thrusting result from the open bite or did the open bite come from the tongue thrusting? I find that addressing both issues at the same time [myofunctional (tongue) and structural (teeth position] works great! Thanks for the tip!

Hi @susanwolf3654 ... based on your comment, it sounds like your bite got worse and it didn't look like the protocol I showed in my video. It's a more difficult technique to do open bite correction with Invisalign, but can be done. It sounds like you might need to have a conversation with your Orthodontist or get a second/third opinion. I would recommend getting yourself more educated. Good luck!!!

My orthodontist said I have to extract 4 teeth for braces for my open bite. He stated that without extrctions my open bite would probably come back. But the root cause of my open bite is my tongue thrusting. So if I fix the tongue thrusting problem and also the bite then what difference does it make that I extract 4 teeth? I’m only 17 and my tongue thrusting issue started a year ago, before that I had a perfect bite and not any less teeth. Also, I’ve been looking at clear braces and Invisalign (I’m not really sure of the difference), do you think that could be possible to do for a 17 year old? And is extracting 4 teeth really necessary ?
@drpassamano
@drpassamano 9 ай бұрын
@paintwater4968 Based on your description, it sounds like Invisalign open bite closure non-extraction of teeth might work for you. Tongue thrusting and open bite go together meaning that if you fix your open bite, then you fix your tongue thrust issue. It is very rare that training your tongue to stop thrusting would move your teeth back to a closed bite. It sounds like you need to see an Invisalign trained orthodontist for a second opinion! I suggest you get 1 or 2 more opinions before doing any non-reversible procedures (ie: extractions). Good luck!!!

Never extract teeth.
@drpassamano
@drpassamano 8 ай бұрын
@@henrykwieniawski7233 That's the goal! It's best to plan non-extraction for most people. However, there is a time and place for teeth extractions. For example, if 2 teeth are colliding with each other and removal of 1 tooth would save the other tooth so extraction of 1 tooth is better than losing 2 teeth. Everything is case specific for the needs of that individual person considering overall health risks and benefits.
