Great video Stef. I'm a fairly new pilot (just over 100 hours) and was looking for somewhere to fly for lunch - I'm based at Lilydale. After watching your video I flew up to Tocumwal with my girlfriend the other day. Nice lunch and a quick walk around the museum. No icing issues for us, more worried about overheating! Keep up the great work.

I have seen time and again that the outboard parts of the wing leading edges are more prone to icing up on planes with TKS panels. I think that is because the TKS pressure is lower there than inboard. Also have seen planes in the shop for TKS panel replacement. Once the panels are clogged, and they do get clogged if not used very regularly, the only way to fix it is replacing the panels. The best ice protection system for light aircraft I believe remains boots. And given that a lot of spots are not protected, like parts of the wings, the wheel fairings etc, not to mention the price of the TKS, remaining in icing conditions for extended periods is not a good idea.

Great video, thank you. I was a bit surprised that the TKS was struggling to get rid of the ice. Is your aircraft full FIKI or is the TKS system just to help remove some of the build up? Thanks again for posting this.
@glennwatson2 жыл бұрын
Edit: Stefs SR22 is older so Cirrus emphasizes their intent for use of the system is not to allow you to fly into ice but to give you more time and added margins to escape ice should you encounter it. As mentioned by @TechThatLasts newer SR22 have full FIKI.

Thanks for the video, Stephen. At kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2G6gKKNfNqEf80 it seems that your CHTs and EGTs are very low. Are you leaning enough? It also seems that your fuel flow is 25.6 GPH which is extremely high for the phase of flight....
@StefanDrury2 жыл бұрын
Had just levelled off after the climb to 9,000 so I hadn't leaned the engine yet and the excess fuel was cooling the cylinders. It's burning more fuel but perfectly happy in that state and I was focussing on loading the arrival first and then leaning etc once that was done.
