Following a Victorian Englishwoman's daily timetable (schedule) for a week is my idea of fun. Charlotte Mason rarely fails me and I had some great takeaways about her own humanizing way of life. I hope you'll enjoy hearing more about it.

I was just thinking about trying to do this and cook 3 meals a day. She didn’t have to cook or clean 3 meals a day.😮. What did the cook’s schedule look like? They were the ones doing the 3 meals a day and cleaning.

I am thinking of titling the chores list by the job title, rather than the chore. I.e: maid, cook, gardener, chauffeur... so we have titles to identify as while we work? Then an accompanying dutues list. Or even if it's just all of my different jobs? Maybe it could instill some appreciation of how many roles we are trying to fill in a day!!

It's amazing what one can do with this kind of intentional schedule. I, too, have tried her time table and was incredibly blessed by the delightful pockets of pleasure throughout my days. In my current season I am reading ten pages of a CM volume in the morning, poetry at breakfast and a classic in the afternoon. We also have elevenses which is new to our rhythms around here :) Elevenses is currently Fridays only but it may need to move to daily after listening to your convincing comment about cake ;) Also, as our children grow and leave it is with great hope that these habits will be in place.

Yes, yes, yes! "Pockets of pleasure" is the perfect phrasing and cake is a necessity and I hope this for my children too!

Haha! Here in the Southern US States you can hear someone say “dinner” and mean lunch. I’ve said supper for my evening meals all my life. It seems so odd to hear someone say “dinner” for the evening meal. Cultural differences can be so fun. 😆 My mother refuses to say “lunch” for some reason. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm British and my husband and I are currently having a turf war over the name of the evening meal. I grew up calling it supper, he called it tea! Supper for him was a little snack before bed. But ultimately I call it dinner these days. But then we had 'dinner ladies' at school during lunch time so that always confuses me 😂 I hadn't realised that some people in the US call it supper too!

I am from the Upper Midwest. I've heard both dinner and supper for evening meal. In my experience, the ones who call it supper tend to be older, though MANY older people call it dinner.

Yep. 9am start here, too! And no screens during the week unless it's educational (nature docu or something). Limited screens on weekends, none after dinner unless it's a Family Movie Night when my OTR trucker husband is home. Also, bedtime is 7pm and lights out is 8pm for the children, regardless of age.
