Thanks for this. Most enjoyable. They were the only band who did reject everything. Stunning recollection of an historic moment in time. It's a pity that there hasn't been a movement quite so shambolic, honest and truthful as The Pistols since.

Thanks for relating the story, it was great. In 2014 I was a pizza delivery driver in an Italian restaurant in Brighton. One evening, Paul Cook was sitting there eating. As he went to leave, I briefly chatted with him. He said he's playing a gig across the road in an hour, why don't I come over. I said I can't, I'm working. He gave a sort of derisory laugh. He was right. I'd rather go see the gig than keep working that night, but I couldn't afford to lose the job. I saw the Sex Pistols in Finsbury Park in 1996, and Crystal Palace in 2004.Or 2002.

That time period was an exciting time to be 18. Here in Memphis we were so hurt over Elvis death, that for some of us The Sex Pistols yanked a lot of us out of our shock of the grief we felt from losing Elvis. My girlfriend and I saw them enter the Talisyn ball room on union ave. We were out side the building and when the drums opened up it sounded like Thunder. Big Roar. When John Lydon, Johnny Rotten s. Sister passed by she said hi to me and my girlfriend. I know how juvenile this sounds but it was a moment I've never fogotten. Thank You for this upload. 👍👍. 🎸🎶.

The Sex Pistols are my favorite band and I was born well after their unfortunate demise. Seeing this raw footage, seeing it from another die hard fan perspective, and getting a feel for the times. I'm genuinely and sincerely thankful for this. Pistols rocked so much harder than everything else at the time and without them music that followed would be missing the "three chords and the truth" foundation that they laid. Much respect.
@WhyNotGoPlaces8 ай бұрын
Thanks for that comment! They did rock much harder than others. Thank you for this retro-diary. Your instincts to follow them so 'obsessively' were prescient, considering they ceased to exist mere days later. And in my opinion you caught the CLASSIC Pistols of the US tour, when Sid was more 'into his own' than even August '77. ⚡
@WhyNotGoPlaces8 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and subscribing! Well, if I hadn't stupidly missed them in August 1977, I would not have been so determined to see them on the U.S. tour. But I really thought at the time that this was just a small tour to get their feet wet in America, so to speak, and that they would come back a few months later and do a full tour - maybe 30+ dates - with another punk band opening up. I think a lot of people probably thought that. I was blind-sided when they broke up a couple of days after Tulsa show. Thanks again for watching.

Hi! I really liked the stories and the Steve Jones leather jacket story. Maybe it was because Sid Vicious apperared in the band in 1977 wearing a leather jacket "à la" Dee Dee Ramone or Lou Reed circa 1973, and so maybe Steve Jones felt that he should go for a leather jacket too, not to get behind in the style department (he always had great style!) ? But that that leather jacket came from Los Angeles, and that it was you who brought the jacket to London, to Steve Jones.. I think it's a great piece of information and fantastic story! Thanks a lot! :)

As I explained in my Sid Vicious video, I moved to London in the summer of 1978 and stayed for 2 years. The music happening at that time was MUCH more advanced than what was happening in LA at the time. Joy Division and PIL blew me away, for example. I loved those two years. I went to the Masque many times from the summer of 1977 to summer of 1978 when I moved to England. I do remember liking the Dickies! A very high-energy band. They were one of the good bands in LA at that time. Many were just trying to copy English bands, as I remember. Thanks for watching my videos. I try to make them personal so people can envision what it was like back then, like the ticket price being $3.50, if they are too young. I will do more memory videos in the future. Thanks for subscribing.

I wasnt old enough to appreciate The Pistols in there glory. I came along a few years later. But my parents were huge fans of the band. Thank god because I had a superb education in popular music and great punk rock bands because of my folks. Thank you for your story. I was never lucky enough to ever see the band even after they reformed. Thhat album weather some bands like to admit it or not changed absolutely everything. I know the gigs in the states were crazy but I suppose it added to the mystique of the group.

I'm originally from Tulsa and was 9 years old when they played at Cain's. Tulsa fans are very respectful, so what you said makes sense about them not throwing things or screaming at the band. I went to nearly a hundred shows at Cain's when I was younger, so I'm very familiar with the club. I've lived in Houston for many years now and get to see loads of bands and I love it.

Hi I was at the Randys show also. I was stage left in the front. I remember being pissed that people were throwing stuff at them. I was shocked when Sid clobbered that guy. I bought tix the day they announced it. Gen admission pink ticket# OOO1. Johnny autographed it for me. Years later my toddler daughter ate it😢

You were there? That's great! I forgot to mention in the video about the t-shirt Johnny was wearing. It really got that crowd angry! It was the 2 naked gay cowboys t-shirt from Seditionaries. Johnny was great to wear such a shirt in Texas. So fearless!
@Love_Street9 ай бұрын
I couldn’t see the shirt because I was to the left of Steve. We got there early and they were on the bus, Johnny was talking to us from the window. I remember I gave him a Marlboro or a “hand rolled”smoke 😂 I think they had a school bus maybe? Or an old greyhound

Thanks for this. I live in Long Beach Ca as I had in 1978. I was glued to KLOS radio; Los Angeles in 1978 with them sending a DJ to report on this tour. That DJ gave a seething report on the Sex Pistols. This Dj was frothing at the mouth how bad and unprofessional were the Sex Pistols. He hated them with a passion(or was paid to give bad reviews). I just turned 17 at the time. I think I remember thinking the DJ just didn’t understand. I learned decades later the Sex Pistols and punk rock was such a threat to the established music industry they went on the attack bribing radio stations to downplay punk rock or “new wave” and the likes of the Sex Pistols. Ironic that Steve Jones went on to have his Jonseys Jukebox show on KLOS. I became a Pistols fan during the 70s. I too saw them in 1996 here in LA at the Palladium. I think it was in 2007 when I saw them in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel’s Joint. Both shows were great. After the show in Las Vegas I walked down the street to a punk club called the Double Down Saloon to get more hammered. Walking (staggering) back to the Hard Rock Steve Jones and a couple people were standing outside the Casino about 2-3am. I tried to put a couple words together to give appreciation but couldn’t out of stuttering, shock, awe, shyness and White Russians. Mr Jones being sober was probably just annoyed haha. One of the people he was with just gave me a stern look. I understood the look, me walking away past them me laughing at my own drunkenness/stupidity haha(fool). I rarely drink now, but I wish I would have able to say whatever it was I wanted to say that night. Again thanks for this video. Cheers

Yes, many times. I liked them. I saw the Weirdos again in L.A. in 2018 when they did some reunion shows with the Avengers, who still sounded great. The Avengers opened for the Pistols at their last show in SF.

@WhyNotGoPlaces Yes, I watched from beginning to end and was fascinated by how you had the foresight and drive to just get up and put yourself in the middle of it when nowadays, listen to me, I sound so old but theses days most people watch from KZbin. I was that way when the Yeah Yeah Yeahs first came through Las Vegas with John Spencer's Blues Explosion. There was a buzz about this new singer who was like Siouxsie Sioux and that's all I had to hear because I have been a Banshee fan since I was 11. I was front row and a bit too drunk and as soon as they were done with their set I saw them in the crowd and wrapped my arm around the guitar player Nick Zinner and said " You look like Sid Vicious!" I rubbed his hair with my hand a told him how beautiful he was Lol!!! Karen O wasn't with them but I thought the girl that was with them was her and she said "Hold on let me go get her" I couldn't do it, I was too shy. I left before she came back. I had too big of a crush on her to meet her. My god was she amazing in her skin tight vinyl suit. I'll never forget it. Anyway, your story is cool I just had to tell you mine before I forgot it. Take care.

I love this video. I am a musician, born in San Diego and moved to Tulsa in the early 80's. I have always thought it was cool that out of seven U.S shows, Cains Ballroom was number six on that tour. Did you know that Sid punched a hole in the dressing room wall? It was covered up for many years, but has since been removed and framed in the Cains office. I have played Cains Ballroom many times now and am honored to have played on the stage where the Pistols played. Out of the seven venues that they played, Cains is the only one still active. Thank you for sharing your story.
@WhyNotGoPlaces8 ай бұрын
I'm glad Cains is still around. It was a good venue in my opinion. Not too small, but not too big. It was my favorite concert on the tour. Yes, someone wrote to me that he punched a wall there. That's so cool they keep in framed in the office. I'll never forget seeing him run off with a transvestite after the show. Sid was wild. Thanks for watching. Subscribe if you want more.
