there was a local lady, don't know her name, but her paintings, which were displayed in most of the downtown store windows, had price tags (1988-91 time period) of $2500.00 and up. All of them looked like a palette after someone painted. The palette, the mixing board for the paint. It was physically painful and confusing to look at some of them.

This isn’t money laundering this is tax evasion. Money laundering is trying to make illegal money “appear” into the legit world. Your example has the mob spending money in a public forum and then you giving most back to them in secret so it appears on paper to the gov they have less money. Assumedly for tax evasion. They’d write off the art purchase so not to pay taxes. This assumes though that that is already laundered cash because otherwise it would be pointless.

One thing is size though. Most of the million dollar ones are multiple feet by feet and all of matts are on a single piece of paper, maintaining good clean asthetics and lines and stuff is much harder on a bigger canvas

It's worth mentioning how much detail is probably being missed in the pictures of the real art. The "Leda and the Swan" piece is six feet wide, so a 300 pixel wide version of it is not going to show you everything that's going on.

This was great some of those came out really well in my opinion. I love to go to the local art shows where I live there's always some really great stuff. Some people you'd never expect are very talented but don't get much exposure. I was able to get a print of one of my favorite pieces at a show a couple years back through the art house because the artist was local. I went to Michael's and got a nice frame for it.

Modern art is something that only rich people understand, they get it assessed for high amounts of money, and then they donate it for tax breaks. It's beautiful to them, because it's a tax loophole that saves them a lot of money. I'm basically convinced of this. If you ask me, just take some shrooms, and then you'll make the best art you could possibly make.

The thing is; if you hold on to your art pieces and pass them on to your children, or your siblings' children. These pieces will probably be valuable to someone some day. The value of art is generally based on how well know the artist was or the story surrounding it. So give your garbage 50 years and maybe it will be worth something just based off of this video.
