As a hospice worker morphine doesn't hasten death, it helps the patient let go, relax and have a peaceful passing. Morphine is never given until you are in the active dying stage. Blessings ❤

When it becomes more painful to live than it does to die, the brain can have tendency to naturally flood ones own consciousness with suicidal thoughts and ideations. When shame and guilt take over the persons mind and emotions, it can also breed self-hatred that leads to either active or passive suicide. Whether it’s by pain and enduring hardship, or shame and guilt, there is a reason that God brings people through everything he does. When pain is fully processed, it becomes deep wisdom that leaves one glorifying God. When shame and guilt are transformed through forgiveness and perfect acts of contrition, they lead to great mercy and compassion. Pulling the plug on Gods plan before it’s appropriate time is done outside of a state of Grace and if the Soul resides in a state of Grace, it exists in unity with God. If the soul is partially separated from Grace, it exists in a state of venial sin. If the soul resides completely separated from Grace, it resides in a state of Mortal sin and that is what suicide is committed by way of (self-hatred, shame, guilt, and intolerance to pain). I pray that all people be granted endurance, perseverance, forgiveness, mercy, and compassion for themselves and others and see Gods plan through for them until they find Grace, nothing less. My soul is meant to be in this body until it stops breathing on its own.

I was a Registered nurse, I did not give a Morphine injection because the patient was asleep and I did not wake her, a little while later she woke up and she said this is the first time in ages I feel normal. I wondered why the Doctor prescribed Morphine every 4 hours if she was not complaining pain! Afew days later we attended a lecture and the Doctor spoke of over sedation and distress it caused patients and I think this lady was a victim. I am talkin of 50 years ago.

God bless you, dear sister in Christ Joan, and thank you for sharing your much needed testimony about morphine! :)💘🕊️🙏 Please know that at least one of my clients, and confirmed this with others, morphine is not the end all... some people will actually become more sensitive to pain when they take morphine, probably because their system builds up a tolerance to it ( I don't pretend to know the technical terms here...), so then this becomes an excuse, especially in hospice situations, for the patient to be given more drugs...and morphine is very dangerous dear, it causes frequent and easy overdoses, and the reason why it slows down the breathing, it because it greatly reduces a person's metabolic rate...in other words, it artificially slows down the body and shuts it down...If moraine wasn't so dangerous and so lethal, I wouldn't have had the power to shut down the Agency I was working for ( even in a liberal state such as California:), because they were allowing their clients to pressure their private caregivers into administering morphine, (which is illegal to do unless you are a registered nurse or doctor or relative of the client/patient)... The state couldn't believe what I was telling them, and if I would have given them the information that I had, which they wanted badly, they would have come in and shut that agency down completely, while they would have investigated them... And by the way, this whole mess started, when a nurse tried to pressure me over the phone to administer to a client morphine, under the guise that it's very easy and harmless and practically impossible to overdose anyone with it!!! This lie was so big, and so dangerous, that I could've shut down an entire agency over it. My point is that we have to be very careful when we downplay the effects of Morphine. We don't want to end up like that nurse who almost caused the shutdown of an entire healthcare agency over her negligence and ignorance...:)💘🕊️🙏

As a practicing Catholic registered nurse in Toronto who has refused to refer patients for MAiD and convinced patients to not die by MAiD, I aporeciate your message, Father Mark. However, I would like to clarify your point about morphine. In patients who are actively dying, large amounts of morphine will not hasten death. Without adequate sedation and pain management from medications such as morphine, the patient will die sooner and with much discomfort due to the stress of +++pain, difficulty breathing, +++discomfort. Not only does morphine ease pain, but it also relaxes the breathing muscles, allowing the dying patient to breathe easier.

Decades ago I was a hospice volunteer. The families (and the patients) all suffered as the time came closer for the loved one to die. However, I was present when relationships were healed, a renewal of faith happened and when acceptance became joy. The process is more than just pain. Taking your life ends the pain..and the blessings you could have had.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful testimony... here is mine...:) Please know that at least one of my clients, and confirmed this with others, morphine is not the end all... some people will actually become more sensitive to pain when they take morphine, probably because their system builds up a tolerance to it ( I don't pretend to know the technical terms here...), so then this becomes an excuse, especially in hospice situations, for the patient to be given more drugs...and morphine is very dangerous dear, it causes frequent and easy overdoses, and the reason why it slows down the breathing, it because it greatly reduces a person's metabolic rate...in other words, it artificially slows down the body and shuts it down...If moraine wasn't so dangerous and so lethal, I wouldn't have had the power to shut down the Agency I was working for ( even in a liberal state such as California:), because they were allowing their clients to pressure their private caregivers into administering morphine, (which is illegal to do unless you are a registered nurse or doctor or relative of the client/patient)... The state couldn't believe what I was telling them, and if I would have given them the information that I had, which they wanted badly, they would have come in and shut that agency down completely, while they would have investigated them... And by the way, this whole mess started, when a nurse tried to pressure me over the phone to administer to a client morphine, under the guise that it's very easy and harmless and practically impossible to overdose anyone with it!!! This lie was so big, and so dangerous, that I could've shut down an entire agency over it. My point is that we have to be very careful when we downplay the effects of Morphine. We don't want to end up like that nurse who almost caused the shutdown of an entire healthcare agency over her negligence and ignorance...:)💘🕊️🙏

It doesn’t end the pain except mortal. Suicide is a deep offense to God, a rejection of His gift of life. Life is battle. You have a mission. Jesus didn’t reject his cross or avoid it…though as the Son of God he could have. LOVE is stronger than suffering.

I love this! :) I can't believe a Catholic would ever think assisted suicide, euthanasia, capital punishment or abortion was okay. Ending someone's life is God's job, not ours. And Doctors are supposed to do no harm! Doctors need our prayers because they are confused these days about what doing no harm means, it seems.

Thank you Fr. Mark for speaking the truth! Last night I watched the season finale of 9-1-1: Lone Star and it bothered me so much. Shows like these are masterminding weak people who think MAID is the answer to suffering. Rob Lowe’s character agreed to his brother’s dying by suicide. I have lost so much respect for actors, writers, directors and producers that allow these shows to filter the minds with suicide as an easy way to leave this earth. Unfortunately it showed also the marriage of two men and kissing so much it made me sick again for the viewers. No respect….all for money and ratings. I pray that all tv shows that give the wrong message have very low ratings and need to cancel them. Truly sad world we are in. Come Lord Jesus!

She just did as much as she could and prayed & prayed & prayed. She knew! Our parish priest came by and said to her, “Its okay Jane. You’ve been a good and faithful servant”. "Catholics are not Christians because they don't believe in Jesus Christ" according to a baptist pastor at a church in our area. When asked/challenged about this, the baptist pastor denied saying it and apologized. Three of us heard him say it, but we accepted his apology. Yesterday, another member of that pastors congregation said exactly the same thing. We now tend to believe the baptist pasture meant what he said the first time despite his denial and apology.
