There's a fishing minigame in Star Trek, fishing? Who'd be eating that shit when food replicators exist? Even the reboots of Star Trek had replicators! Is it like a holodeck simulation of a fishing vacation? Have the creators of this game ever watched Star Trek?!

@@zhitchcresttail3387 Food from a replicator vs freshly cooked food I imagine would be like a microwave dinner vs a home cooked meal or something you'd get from a restaurant. It would come down to the cook, ingredients available on a starship in space and tools available. So the meal is only as good as the availability those things. A starship replicator can make anything in the blink of an eye. Even in DS9 Quark said he would have to pay insane amounts of money/currency or what food items are available from the aliens that visit the star base. There aren't a ton of fresh ingredients being shipped around the vast expanse of space and getting enough to actually cook a meal seems like it would be insanely difficult.

@@Sky_Guy - I think they were referring to the Tier 5 or 6 ships that aren’t free. The ship you’re talking about was probably the free T4 version that you get for hitting level 40. The stats are worse than the T5 or T6 (even with level boosting) and they don’t come with any special abilities or consoles. Even though, technically, you could get anything from the Zen store for free by trading your dilithium for Zen Coins, it’d take forever. I actually did that for my first Z-Store ship, it took me over half a year of grinding almost every day. If you really want a T6/endgame ship for free, just wait around for the Summer, Winter, and/or Anniversary Events. They’re not too bad. Most of them aren’t iconic or hero ships, though.

I’ve been playing for years and have amassed almost 70 ships, beaten every mission, played as every faction and maxed out every character. Now my ships pretty much one shot everything. Wether it’s TFO’s or at times, PvP. That being said it’s still fun to hop on and play when they add new story expansions. Or add new ships to work towards. And of course just playing with a group of friends and wiping everything out in one weapon volley. Nab 4-5 ships with chains of fire, then just zigzag as you tow them, causing fire dot, collision damage, drop mines and other rear-facing attacks just for good measure. And on the defense tfo... i forget its name, with the 3 stations.... you can instantly clear 1 station at the start. Chains of fire on the battleship, then just hit full impulse ability (the one that gives a huge, short speed boost) and tow it as far away as you can. It will just stay there, out of range and no more battleships will spawn. *terrible commercial jingle* If yer ship's been shot by a borgy bot Call 1-800-Tuggz-A-Lot! 😋 (Xbox version, but im sure the same strategies work on pc)

Played about 200h in it, when the player made missions were still a thing and it was quite enjoyable. It has a niche audience that mostly log in to do a story chapter when it comes out then dont log again. It's grindy by design, but the grind has little point to do so other than buying the premium currency for ingame cash. The combat system is unnecessarily complex for something that you only click the skill on the screen (there were set items with multiple procs depending on each other) and the pvp was literally unplayable because of the server couldnt keep up with calculations. Had a good time though, main story quests are fully voiced by the actors from the series and the plot and overall feeling of universe is better than Star Trek Discovery on Netflix.

Considering I'm a massive trek nerd, I've played this game for a long ass time and honestly it's enjoyable for me. Though you did get something wrong in the intro, you said why play the actual trek game where you play the notable characters... In this game all the original actors voice their characters bar James Doohan who passed away so his son Chris does his voice perfectly. Early on, it's fun and if you know there universe... Its great. Mid game its really good story wise due to good arcs and characters returning. Endgame it's a blast that's fun, but leans into the mictotransaction hellscaps and any memorable ship you'd like is behind a pay wall or event. I have I think 20ish ships of various sizes from the small defiant class escort to the universe class dreadnought cruiser aka THE MIGHTY PANCAKE OF DOOM. When I started STO, it was still during the Borg incursion, when DS9 was the hub for trading in STF tokens for ship gear. Then, they added the grind, but they didn't add any new gear or events. Just gated everything with a giant unnecessary progression wall: the very same gear you were getting the day before from STF drops (which was fun), now you have to grind and there are no drops. STFs barely had a purpose in space. On foot, there was zero purpose. Most messed up thing was I actually was only on F2P and was purchasing ships as a way to reward the devs for the time I invested. My wife had the worker bee healer one and I had a Sao Paulo-class named USS Brooklyn. I chatted with one of the devs aboard a space station, told him if they released a carrier, I'd buy it that day. They did, so I did! One for me and my wife. That's how fun the game was. Then some ****** with no concept of how MMOs are played decided to fuck the entire system up. DS9 gone as a hub. STFs pointless. What used to be fun was converted into grind. STO died that day.

You'll be happy to know there is fishing in the game during Q's Winter Wonderland event. It is Klingon ice fishing where you punch the ice (with a Klingon fishing item) and catch a fish!!

if this game had double the newbies and fresh players, or more high tier players willing to chill tf out without needing to show off how they can one hit everything within 10km---- i'd say it's a solid 8/10. you'll almost always have an elite player in easy tfo lobbies, zooming around killing everything before you can even fly up to it lmao. other than the obsessive and insecure ass mega players who feel the need to flex on everyone none stop, the game and community is awesome. love chillin at ESD jus lookin at the ships rolling thru. for the age of the game, she holds up pretty damn well. its a free to play so the zenn part of the game makes sense, gotta keep the servers running and the devs employed. plus free updates and content constantly.

I've put a couple thousand hours into this game and it's still fun. If I'm not making a shuttlecraft that can blow up a dreadnought, I'm doing 17k damage with my fists in ground combat because punching borg into orbit is a great pastime. Then again, flooding space with torpedoes is pretty amazing too. :D

STO recently had the choice of launchers. As in you had to choose to bind the game to Steam or Arc Launcher. Many used the Arc Launcher already, because you did not need to enter your password everytime. That might fuck up the Steam statistics.
@exilestudios95463 жыл бұрын
the vast majority of players use the arc launcher. the game just reported a record number of players last year and more importantly to their share holders record profits. the return of star trek shows combined with massive amounts of players fleeing wow and looking for new MMOs are the only reason this game is still alive

I used to love STO. I probably still do, and I can see myself replaying the old/lower level content where utility and support builds are actually meaningful. Endgame was basically just maxing out your dps and HP when I last played, which made it incredibly boring and pointless. Pop your wormhole thing to group it all up, pop your aoes and spam away. I can hope (but not expect) that they changed things and buff/debuff heavy builds are actually viable again. But I'm not keeping those hopes very high. Oh and the custom mission maker thing was removed because they lost the code for it or something? How do you misplace data (the information, not the android)?
@exilestudios95463 жыл бұрын
they say the lost the code but in reality they removed it because players were using the system to skip the intentional grind that the games owners wanted in the game.

Debuff/Nanny builds have always been a thing. You complain about DPSing, but to make a record you need a debuff tank and supports. I'm not sure where you think those builds went.

As an STO player for the last 7 years, STO is all about the Grind. The Grind for better equipment. You guys must be playing at the lowest level.

I've noticed that a ton of people who do "We tried STO" videos seem to have no idea that you can hit B on the keyboard to turn on Shooter Mode. Not a biggy, but it does completely change ground combat from a typical tab combat rpg to an action combat RPG lol

I used to play a lot of STO back in the day, then I just ended up doing daily away team missions that I could do offline. Then they nerfed those and I uninstalled, never played again.

I think I've put in a total of 1100 hours on Steam until I lost interest after the Sphere builders arc. It was fun though while it lasted.

I love this game also I think there is actually much more players than on steam this is probably my second most favourite MMORPG.
I actually played it today, the game is still holding up, especially in the space combat aspect. Ground still sucks, always has. But the devs are really keeping the game alive so thats nice. Would love to see a less p2p re-release on a new engine to get a breath of fresh air, especially since the zen/dili market is basically crashed forever

Curious. I actually prefer ground over space. But maybe that's just because the ground TFOs and ground parts of missions tend to be a bit more story driven and focused than the space ones, at least from my observations.

@@guardianofthehill yeah they are, but the quality is just so so much worse than space.

Hear me out this is a really good game if you play it strictly for the story and nothing else.

Out of all the MMOs i've played, STO might actually be the best, or at least the second best, with ESO being the worst. STO has a interesting, albeit somewhat predictable and occasionally repetitive, story that fits quite well into Star Trek lore and utilizes pretty much every single major faction and species that has appeared in the shows. Of course, if you want a really good or cool looking ship, it can be quite grind-filled, but grind is in no way necessary if you just want to play the story campaign. Plus, the fact that they somehow always get the original actors from the shows as voice actors for their characters in-game kind of rocks. TL;DR : STO good, SWTOR maybe better, ESO god awful
