Tony, great video, thanks for sharing. I'll have to hit this place next time I do a road trip with my bike up the coast. I share your passion and motives for getting outdoors and seeing the scenery as you mention and ponder at 15:05 Prior to mtb, I was all about hiking, scrambling, climbing off-trail to bag peaks in the N. Cascade mountains around Seattle. My primary motive for getting out is to experience the many wonderful natural mountain settings. Once I moved to San Diego I was also blessed to have the opportunity to explore the hardcore desert and how are Eastern County. Desert sand is not the friendliest of surfaces for mountain biking, so I found having a plated enduro dirt bike was a great way to take in even more.

On a road trip to escape COVID, and met local while riding Irish hills (highly recommended!!). He told me about tv tower because I was looking for campsite for night. Ended up pitching tent at top of elevator shaft. Beautiful sunset but trash everywhere SAD!. Did CCW loop of TV tower, botanical, morning glory and up shooters. Totally missed eucs section! Oh well - next time. I got into mtb for same reason as you - the views! While climbing shooters, I heard a cougar or mountain lion screaming (I was told they're mating). Blood curdling scream - not pleasant when climbing alone and tired!!!

As an Australian it's really weird seeing all those eucalyptus trees! It really looks like a local trail for that reason. But apparently the trees are quite disliked in California? Because they are really well-respected here, and some of the older specimens are among the tallest trees in the world.
@TheOutsiderMTB5 жыл бұрын
Interesting - I didn't know that. From a personal standpoint, I love them. Really adds to the landscape. Thanks for tuning in from the land down under! 😉
@jitterspec4 жыл бұрын
@slimeone you are correct, I've heard Californians disparage eucalyptus. They're referred to as "Roman candles " because the oil makes them burn so easily. You guys just had massive fires. Eucalyptus?
@wakazuzu4 жыл бұрын
@@jitterspec Yeah basically all the native forest in Australia is Eucalyptus apart from rainforest and swamp areas. Bushfires are a natural part of the Australian ecosystem, with many species of trees seeds only sprouting after a fire. The Aboriginal people understood this and developed advanced strategic burning practices to help sustain a healthy balance in the environment which prevented fires from burning out of control. Unfortunately the land is no longer managed like this and much of the ancient knowledge has been lost.
