15 liters is just a shade under 4 gallons. That's per your 30 sec test, it's about 8 gallons a minute. That is a really nice little pump. Watching the pump fail as it ran out of fuel made me chuckle. It's how I look and feel when I run out of gas! 😆

Nice little unit! I would suggest a couple things. Maybe attach a shower curtain pear shaped clip to the handle to hold several spare rubber washers, it is a critical part to the system. Also, maybe a sock type filter for the intake hose in case the water source is muddy or full of debris. And finally, it might be a good idea to make that 20:1 fuel ratio label more obvious, maybe print out a larger tag or decal. You are familiar with the pump, but anybody that may use it in a fire event will not expect that, just as you did at first. Cool video as always! Cheers!

It cracks me up watching your cat. I’ve commented before about how much you remind me of my grandpa, and this is just exactly the same thing I used to see him do. He never called his barn cat over to him, and me being the animal lover that I am, always wanted to pet his giant tomcat. Every time he’d be having me help make barn doors for his business, or he’d be showing me how setup a planing table, that huge cat of his would be right up in the middle of everything. But every time I went to pet it, he’d scamper away. My grandad would laugh and talk about wanting something I couldn’t have. I never understood what he meant at the time, but seeing you patiently working around that cat really made me miss my grandad.

Add a foot valve and intake strainer with adapters to the end of the suction hose so when the pump stops you don't lose the prime. Then its just ready to go for the next guy's fill up, no messing with getting a prime. That's a nice little pump. My home domestic well system only delivers about 10 gpm. from a 3/4" garden hose. I carry a 275 gallon cube tote on my dually pickup. It's feeding a Harbor Freight 2"X2" pump/212cc predator engine powered that feeds about 80ft. of 1" hardline hose w/a 1" adjustable fire nozzle. The cube tote valve has a 2" camlock fitting (fits my 20 ft. 2'' suction hose). To draft with it, I unsnap it from the (closed) cube tote valve, snap onto the cam lock nipple attached to a 2" cast iron foot valve/with strainer. The pump is light enough to move down by the water, with 2 guys, and draft to fill up my cube tote (or other people's fire tanks) pretty fast (20+gpm.) from the 1" hard line with the nozzle removed. There's no reel for the hardline, I just "figure 8" it over the rear handles of my truck's lumber rack. For about $500 I made a truck mounted fire rig! That truck tows my portable welding trailer, so I have the welding rig along with a fire suppression rig in my truck. Sure makes the onsite welding jobs feasible during fire season (I observe ALL fire restrictions for the welding...). That setup with the 1" fire nozzle will shoot water about 80 feet. I keep it on my truck and filled up during fire season to quick respond to any local grass fires in my neighborhood. My buddy and I are part of an emergency alert network with our Baofeng Radios on a MURS channel plus cell-phones for Comms. (C.E.R.T. = Community Emergency Response Team).

I work on stuff that`s neglected or put up for winter/summer for friends and their friends. With a bit of work, 90% of what I work on wants to run, unless it had no oil. Even a 20 year old barn find push mower with a good cleaning(carb was a mess, oil black) will come back to life. That was a very cool find Cody. I hope it will fulfill it`s task. Good job. Nicely done video and pretty cool little pump. When I was a plumber we would use what were called mud pumps in certain scenarios. If we were having to dig up a broken water or sewer pipe we would often have to pump the water or mud out of the ditch in order to access the pipe and make the repair. Sometimes the ditch would fill up with rainwater or groundwater that had to be pumped out. The pump was obviously larger and the the discharge line was 2 inch fire hose. I don’t remember the brand or anything much about it except for the intake line, discharge line, and the approximate size and weight. Those things had some power and they were called mud pumps for good reason. I’m sure you have an idea what I’m talking about. Anyway, good info and video.

Nice Pump! I use 20/1 mix on all my 2 cycles regardless of what they call for. You can't find a single difference between engines from 30 years ago that would cause it to need more oil than any now. It's all about emissions. They don't care if your engine wears out as soon as it's out of warranty. Also makes it so I only have to keep one mixture of gas made. Always add Stabil to mix so it lasts a long time in storage.

On water pumps: Our house was built over a creek so the partial basement floods if it isn't managed. After the hole in which the sump pumps lived destroyed several of them from corrosion or whatever, I decided to use a different pump. The one I use now is for a recreational vehicle, to run sinks and showers, so it produces 55 psi and does not need priming, lives outside of the water so lasts much longer, and has enough pressure to run pop up sprayers for my lawn. I had to build a circuit with float switches and a 555 timer as a flip-flop to recreate the hysteresis of a sump, but it works great and uses no municipal water, which is good because I'm in California and we're having a terrible drought. Another pump worth a look are boat bilge pumps, ones made but Rule are the size of your fist and are very nice water movers, but they sit in water much like a sump, and cost much less than a sump too. Pumps are fun!

30L is aprox 8gal so you're at roughly 480 gallons an hour with that setup. Not great but not too bad either. Assuming you have a 100 gal tank on the back of a utility cart you can fill that up in about 15 minutes or less. I think the well at my parents homestead was pretty similar on fill times, if I can remember correctly. Would be interesting to see the GPH on it after it's warmed up. Pressure seemed to be significantly better. Also time to get another Mix Tank labeled and ready :D

More important, get your property ready for fire season. Create as much defensible space around your buildings as possible. Keep the flash fuels short, get the dead vegetation out and away from your buildings. Keep you firewood and petroleum products away from your buildings. If you can, help your neighbors with cutting back their flash fuel vegetation for some defensible space on their home. Have a plan to evacuate your family and your animals quickly. Make sure you practice your evacuation plan with your family. Have bug out packs for all family members to include Prescriptions and eye glasses. During the practice, be calm and use clear language that everyone can understand. Be weather wise. Pay attention the NOAA weather service radio reports. Storms that produce lightning start a lot of wild land fires.

I've used the electric version of that pump. I'm always trying to get it to pull higher than it really is able. I keep a hand tight but sealed cap in that top port so I can prime it to the very top and quickly put my cap on and start it before my prime runs back down the intake. I also push it a really long way but fairly flat. That 2 stroke makes way more head pressure than the electric but I'm pretty sure they are the same cast iron head unit. I didn't know they made a gas engine version. Pretty neat.

Nice shot of Mt Rainier in the background. Based on experience, I would recommend a 2" pump with the 8 horse Honda. You don't want to skimp if you are fighting fires. You will get better volume and much better spray distances. That pump will be great for the sprinkler surround!
@blackbirdpie2172 жыл бұрын
Pumps need priming because they have become dry. They aren't air pumps, they are water pumps, and cannot generate a suction (low barometric pressure) in air, so won't draw water. Priming not only lubricates (not much, water is a terrible lubricant) but mainly it is pumpable.. it can be pushed out by the pump, making a vacuum behind it. The more water column you can give it in the intake line, that is priming the entire line, it can continue to pump without end. Sometimes a primed pump can't draw water unless the entire line is pre-filled with water so air doesn't once again stall the pump.

That makes 30 liters in one minute (30 divided by 0.986) equal to 30.426 quarts or 7.606 gallons in one minute. That would be 456.36 gallons every hour.

You could probably put those in series to pump water up hill, use it as a booster, My aunt's house was so high up a mountain, they had to use a pump at the house, because the pressure was basically zero, except when it stormed, the barometric pressure change, it blew out o rings everywhere, flooding the place, I figure the pressure had to been very high to do that,

Lol! I bought an off brand, identical to that, about 10 years ago at an auction, cheap, because the recoil didn't work... Works, for what it is. Hope yours does the job!
