Honestly, for me a contemporary romance shouldn’t be over 350 pages max. The exception is when the book is so good that I don’t notice the length of book.

I felt the same way about the fine print! I just felt that it was completely lackluster. To be honest, I felt like the author used a trope generator and went with it? I’m very reluctant to read the second book but people seem to love it more? BUT you can’t trust public opinion. These do be the same people who hyped up the Spanish love deception….

I'm glad someone else thought the Spanish Love deception was overhyped too. The characters were supposed to be adults but the dialogue and especially the mindset of the heroine was closer to a young teenager. It felt very juvenile at times and it read more like a high school romance that was changed to a workplace romance at the last minute imo.

I'm so glad people are finally reading Elizabeth O'roark books. She's amazing 👏 I was so glad to see first Julia and now you reading and loving her books! If you like the banter in A Deal with the Devil, then I definitely recommend you The Suit by Lulu Moore. The enemies to lovers banter in that one are amazing. It's book 2 from a series but it can be read as a standalone (tho I recommend reading book 1, The Secret before but it's not necessary)

The second book is about Drew, Tali’s friend and the third book is about Ben, the lawyer friend and his heroine is Gemma. But not the same Gemma, it doesn’t get that weird! A Deal with the Devil is my favorite of the three but they’re all very good. The third one is like a mix of The Hating Game and Book Lovers but slightly better than both (in my opinion).

I'm glad I'm not the only one that found The Fine Print just meh. A Deal With the Devil was my favorite book of last year! It was so good and the sarcastic, witty between the hero and heroine was amazing! The second book (The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, which follows the actress best friend of Tali) in the "series" (connecting characters, but I don't know if it is officially a series yet) was also good, but not nearly as good as A Deal With the Devil.

Re Lauren Asher, I tried a different series from her, the one set in Formula 1 (first book is called Throttled I think?). I had to DNF it due to the writing style and the one-dimensional characters so after now seeing you having similar problems with The Fine Print, I feel like this author is just not for me. Which is so sad because I do love the unique settings!

Regarding the amount of pages. An author on TikTok disclosed the other day that they get paid on kindle unlimited based off of page turns. I don’t remember exactly how it’s calculated, but essentially the more pages you turn, the more money gets paid to the author. She even mentioned that depending on how much you read, your entire subscription for the month could go directly to the author (and not Amazon).

The only issue I have with most romances nowadays is the sheer length of them. They should be short, sweet and spicy. Not like other genres where things over 300 pages is a standard. I don't mind a good mystery to be over 500 pages, but not a romance please. I just can't find good stories that don't drag on forever.

I hate books where the hero goes from “player” to simp-boyfriend after meeting the heroin. It implies that boys who treat women like crap only need to meet the “right one” and they’ll change and grow up.
