Noise pollution is such an important factor. 2k for a apartment in Lisbon sounds wildly expensive though. Things must have changed in the once affordable Lisbon.

Lisbon is not that affordable. Especially for the Portuguese

@@AdrienField Lisbon used to be affordable, lived there for a couple of years even after breaking up with my boyfriend at the time. I moved to old town (Graça) with my dog for a 1 bedroom apartment for 6 years. I used to pay 250€ and raised max to 350€ when I moved country in 2013 when our PM said the economy was broken and we needed to find jobs abroad. This ridiculous prices started when Madonna moved to Lisbon and became trendy, absolutely heart breaking💔 for Alfacinhas and Lusitanian people hoping to move back in a few years! I'm just stating facts not being r a c ist! Aah I'm mixed race person

Wow, those prices are long gone. I agree, this country is pretty broken economically and it doesn’t make sense how hard the housing prices are compared to the average wages.
@GengarOnXanax3 күн бұрын
@@loa367 Not really... Before Madonna there were already problems especially due to a huge wave of brazillians and africans. Some used Portugal as an entrance to Europe due to the easy access of citizenship and passport (easier than other European countries), but most stayed but didn't went for the smaller and less populated cities. Fast forward and a wave of "digital nomads" from richer european countries and north america also came and stayed in the same cities because they are the most developed. Then came a wave of asian (mostly from nepal, india and pakistan), some did occupy the small cities and villages, but most also came for the most developed cities. The Portuguese middle class disappeared, young people (from 18 to 30) can't buy houses, an apartment is almost 2x the mid wage value. A room in Lisbon and overall cities are almost the same price as the minimum wage or at least 25-50% of your salary, unless you want something in a cave and don't mind having a small room with no conditions.

Adrien. Been watching you for a while. (Not in a weird way : ). ). What is the appeal of living in Portugal? I've been bouncing around Bali, Lombok Cebu and Da nang for the past year and I'm trying to convince myself to go back to Colombia. But with the amount of comfort you can get in Asia Vs the Cost? No other country compares... Wondering what I'm missing about these places that appeal to so many people.

I do miss many aspects of my life in Asia but as a single gay man it is pretty hopeless. Also the lack of infrastructure in Bali was frustrating at times, I ended up isolated at home often because going outside was too exhausting.

I find so comical the fact that well off immigrants such as Adrien are complaining about Lisbon's housing market and prices...when the fact is ..these prices were inflated due the the large demand created by ...those same well off immigrants. 12 years ago I used to own a beautiful 80 sqm flat in central Lisbon - I was renting it for a while for 700 euros - that was the acceptable and sustainable price. But then a wave of Americans, French, Dutch and whatnot came in floods, driving prices completely unsustainable for the local population. You are complaining about prices? FYI minimum wage in Portugal is little over 800 euros. a medium white collar salary in Lisbon will be 1200, 1300 euros. I love mobility, and the fact that people can travel, learn and share cultural insights with each other - I truly do. But be mindful of your presence , impact and footprint.
@AdrienField3 күн бұрын
The prices were already high before I arrived and it’s not as if my singular presence is to blame for the fact that the economy is bad and the government has favored bringing in immigrants because they cannot create an environment in which the local people are able to live well.
@paulolopes_studioPLO3 күн бұрын
@@AdrienField Absolutely - I do completely agree that this isa government "mafia" problem. It's been happening for quite a few years - and the latest elected government has decided to perpetuate it even further. Now, do not feel personally attacked. As I mentioned, "immigrants like Adrien" not Adrien specifically. And I mentioned a time frame as well. You are one of many, many, many others. In fact you enjoy KZbin success due to that migration flow. Having said that - I believe this is the perfect situation to clarify the context and background for the issues you are mentioning. The solutions is regulation - and regulation is stubbornly missing

The minimum wage in New York State is currently $16 per hour in NYC, which makes it tough to afford the average rent of around $6,166. So NYC isn’t exactly affordable for minimum wage earners either. The situation in Lisbon isn’t unique, unfortunately.
