Today’s video was great. I started watching you last week or the week before and I am watching oldest to newest and I am planning a trip to Duluth tomorrow, Sunday or Monday. It’s my birthday weekend and I want to go find agates and cool stuff. I have a bucket full from when I went to Mille Lacs on 8/21/21. I am going to go to 1/2 Price books to see if they have the 2 books you referenced and if not, I’ll try Barnes and Noble. I live in MN too, East St. Paul though. I have always been an agate hunter ever since I could walk. I still have most of my favorites as well as some of my great grandfather’s collection that was just going to be tossed if I didn’t take them.

Well done. I was surprised that there was agate material inside. I've never thought about cutting open porphyry although I pick up some rocks to save as is, and others to cut open. Sort of like some rock bands have guitars they pick specifically to smash in their concert. You have inspired me to cut open some porphyry. Thanks.

Just got back home (southern WI) from spend time in northern WI. I wanted to share this with you.... We went one day up to the Lake Superior Shore, Little Girls Point, to spend some time looking for rocks, enjoying the beach and people. I was standing in the (warm) lake, when an older gentleman came up to me and said, "Do you know what you are doing?" I said "Yes!". He then said, "SCOOPY!" Right a way, I thought of our buying our own "Scoopies" after seeing yours! I smiled, and then asked him if he watches AGATE DAD!? He does! So, we briefly talked about your wonderful channel, plus others that we both watch. He and his wife were from Michigan, on a 10 day vacation to rock hunt! You just never know, Taylor, where people will meet, and start discussing rocks, and our enjoyment in learning more, from your channel!!

I love your appreciation for rocks! I also really love rocks… I’ve had an agate collection since the early ‘70’s. I used to hunt up and down our gravel road in Eagan, Minnesota with an empty Kemp’s gallon ice cream bucket (OPTIMISM!!!😂😂😂) and come home with grit in my teeth…

I have indoctrinated my grandson into the world or rock lunacy. He is 12 and is now a member of our local club. Shout out to Searchers Rock and Mineral Society from Anaheim CA, anyway, I was helping him out with the trim saw, he was a little frightened by it, which is a good thing. I demonstrated the reasonable safe trim saw by basically the same thing you were doing. What I did try and emphasize was that it is a safe saw but RESPECT THE SAW! If you were to slip you could still do damage if you forced your finger into the blade it would cut! You have heard the saying that a dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp one! I'm sure you realize this, thank you, good video.

Cool cuts. How good are you at cutting slabs straight? One of my trim saws has a little fence that helps get the two cuts parallel. I don't do as well just eyeballing them.

@@AgateDad lol. Yeah it's really interesting although living in southern louisiana, we don't have rocks, we just have soil, clay, and shells. Lol. Maybe that's why I loved learning about it so much and when I travel, my eyes are always peeled to natural formations. Lol

I’ve found a few pieces of white with red crystals on the southern shore of Lake Superior. I’m sure that’s what inspired the ‘Chinese Writing/Letter Stone’ name! First thing it made me think of when I saw it.😁 Unfortunately, the pieces I’ve found aren’t big enough to cut, plus I’ve moved 2 times since I found them, so I can’t lay my hands on them.😢😩 Really cool stuff!👍❤️

Nice video. I wondered if the more weathered piece might be a type of granite. I live in Maine. We have a lot granite and I am often surprised that some of it gets really weathered. I know of a beach with orange sand that is mainly from the granite in the area.

new blades need to be broken in, in order to fully expose the diamond grit. we usually cut a couple pieces of junk rock before we cut anything we're actually interested for that reason. sort of like breaking in a new pair of boots
