Take it from a Chinese American, yes spaghetti is a noodle as well as all the other pasta shapes except ravioli. If it's grain or starch based and is boiled or steamed without filling, it's a noodle. In Chinese cookery, there's _so many noodles_ each of which has radically different textures, and each are best used in a way that takes advantage of that. Yee mein, lo mein, biang biang mein, round rice noodles, flat rice noodles, noodles stretched thinner than hair, noodles cut from a ball of dough--you get the idea.
@peteratwood6691
@peteratwood6691 Жыл бұрын
It seems like in china the term for noodle is used for things made out of grain and since strangers saw things like lo mein and ramen (know it's not chinese but I don't know dish names) they called long grain foods noodles. In Italy pasta is used for a grain product made from a certain batter and turned into shapes but short pasta is not a noodle as noodles are long and "spaghetti-like" so I think today at least you wouldn't really say pasta is noodles without specifying if you mean long or short pasta (personally I think they come from different backgrounds and are made of different things so I don't consider pasta a noodle but still. (Pasta is made out of "hard grain" which I don't know how to translate properly but is why many italians say the pasta is different in Italy)

Spagetti is based on noodles but it's a completely different way of cooking, i can't imagine comparing spagetti with noodles. It would be like claiming gin is a type of jenever, jenever is a Belgian/Dutch strong alcohol and inspired Allied soldiers to make gin.
@Eventide215
@Eventide215 Жыл бұрын
@@tresenie Just because you don't think of spaghetti as a noodle doesn't mean it isn't one. "Noodle" has a definition: "a strip, ring, or tube of pasta or a similar dough, typically made with egg and usually eaten with a sauce or in a soup." spaghetti is a noodle by defintion across the world. It doesn't matter how it's cooked it's just the shape that determines if it's a noodle or not. The issue really is that when it comes to spaghetti noodles people only think of it used in the dish of the same name. Since they're the same name people tend to not really think of the noodle itself. It's one of those situations where all noodles are pasta but not all pasta is noodles.

We have: Potato with carrot and onion Potato with kale Potato with Andijvie (cold kale) Potato with sauerkraut serve with bacon and sausage, voila, dutch meals. Alternatively, do what the british do and travel across the world and knick some recipes, then adapt them to use whatever you've got available (like carrot and potato)

Do people genuinely not think spaghetti is a noodle? Its not exactly an American or an Italian thing considering Ramen, Udon, Somen or Soba noodles exists. I don't really care what Italians say since Asian culture does also heavily integrate long noodles into their meals and they're not really an Italian thing. Mamak, Soto, Pad Thai, Chow Mein, Ramyeon and other similar long noodle recipes have existed in Asian culture for generations

That magazine must be a hoot! Anyway, as I understand it, the main difference between noodles and pasta (apart from where in the world they originated) is that noodles will have a different texture due to the use of an agent to increase the pH of the dough, resuling in a more chewy / springy texture. Could be wrong, but that's what I've heard at least. 🍜
