As bad as the oubliette was, impaling was right up there in the cruelty/pain zones with other deliberately delayed deaths. If you look at how impalement was carried out, not only does it give you an insight into 'tortured to death, slowly' systems but leaves one wondering what kind of sick individual could think these tortures up.

St Andrews castle (ruins) in Scotland has a bottle dungeon. It is cut into the "living" rock of the sea cliff on which a tower stood (the partial ruins still do). It is not particularly small but the walls slope inward to the entrance in the centre of the ceiling. Escape, without the aid of a rope or ladder, would have been quite impossible. The castle also has a very rare example of a seige mine and counter mine. All of the (successful) counter mine and most of the siege mine can still be explored. Well worth a visit if you are interested in medieval castles.

The Good Book tells us of those who destroy their enemies without mercy: "Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, And he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him." - Proverbs 26:27 (NKJV); and “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? I, the LORD*, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings." - Jeremiah 17 : 9 (NKJV). Whatever you unrepentantly do to another, or even what you THINK about doing, will be used as evidence against you. Without mercy, these rebellious moments will be used to sentence you to eternal damnation should you refuse to believe and turn back to the Living God of your very life, the One who loved you first, your Creator. Every one of those evil-hearted kings, lords, wardens, and jailers are even now imprisoned in Sheol (Hell, or Hades), ever dead and forever dying, knowing full well that they themselves put themselves there through their own wicked deeds, which they gladly thrust onto others, instead of following the Creator God they once innately knew in their innocent youth. We are all given the gift of knowing right from wrong at the earliest days and years of our lives, but in the fullness of time, most turn away and begin to 'do what was right in their own eyes.' See 1 Kings 14 : 8, 2 Kings 16 : 2, and 2 Chronicles 28 : 1 to touch on this key aspect of our wretched human condition without God Almighty in our lives. NOW is the day of repentance: call out, beg forgiveness, and trust in His longsuffering love for YOU - He WILL forgive you if you but ask... and then search diligently for Him moment-by-moment everywhere you turn, and you will find Him, this He Himself promises: "Serve the LORD* with fear, And rejoice with trembling." - Psalm 2 : 11 (NKJV); "For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling." - 1 Corinthians 2 : 2 -3 (NKJV); and "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure." - Philippians 2 : 12b - 13 (NKJV). * LORD = YHWH, or Yahweh : : 'I AM WHO I AM.' See Exodus 3 : 15 -16. This is the very One, the eternal Father, God Almighty, whose only begotten Son frees all prisoners from the obligation of the oubliette already set aside for each of us, the required sin payment of Death itself (see Romans 6 : 23). Do you know His Son's Name? He is the One who DIED FOR YOU, so that you might LIVE FOREVER with Him. The blood sacrifice He alone offers - His immortally perfect blood in exchange for your mortally tainted stuff - has already been made for you, but will you accept it? His blood for yours; His voluntary death to freely and completely pay off your eternal debt for sinning? His Name means 'YHWH Is Salvation': It is 'YESHUA,' or more famously today: 'Jesus' ('God Saves'). He and His Father are One through their Holy Spirit. See John 17 : 11, 17 : 21, 1 Corinthians 8 : 6, and 1 John 5 : 7 to begin understanding the Trinity of our beloved Father-Son-Spirit: the One True God. It is the unnamed Holy Spirit which will indwell you once you truly believe in Him, and it is He who will guide you from within into all Truth and understanding. Your job in all this? Humble your heart - in absolute humility - truly profess your repentance from living the natural life of a fallen sinner, and call out in faithful obedience because of His death, burial, and resurrection for YOUR sake. Take ownership to that which is FREELY offered: He hung on that wretched Cross in YOUR place - for your sins were great indeed. Profess your loyalty to the One who died IN YOUR PLACE! Know and accept that there is nothing you could do - or ever can do - to pay Him back: there is no work, no deed, and no payment required for the free gift He's already given you - it's ALL GRACE on His part, but you have to accept His merciful gift... Happily receive the open invitation of eternal life without a thought of trying to repay Him for it: otherwise, you insult Him greatly. Remember: He's on your side - choose wisely! Please know that I, and many faithful brethren worldwide, are praying for you even now! Pray with us, as we pray for each other, pray continually for others who don't know Him or haven't yet heard of His once-in-a-lifetime free offer, and pray for your enemies, too! Yes, even for our enemies! For the time is short and the promise is true: the Son is coming back quickly! Our redemption draws nigh: you are more than welcome, indeed - YOU are invited: join us in all readiness for our beloved soon-coming King Redeemer, Jesus / Yeshua, who loved us first! He alone is our 'Anointed One' ('Christ' and 'Messiah'). Many blessings always, and KNOW that you are already forgiven, but it's all up to YOU: if you but lovingly believe on His Holy Name, you will be saved from His eternal wrath. But for those who continue in their rebelliousness, there only awaits Hell-On-Earth in His Tribulation, followed by everlasting Death in a never-ending personal and private oubliette, truly a fearfully lonely pit of terror, indeed, made from the very fabric of their own rebelliously godless nature! "Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen." - Revelation 22 : 20b - 21 (NKJV)
