For about two years now I have resisted upgrading my power station, but the Pecron F5000 might be the one that really moves the needle. That thing can clearly power everything I need for off-grid living in any season. Pecron prices are usually quite competitive, so I'me starting my Pecron savings fund right now! Thanks Jason!

There’s no free lunch. Imagine how many watts are needed to heat 100pounds of battery even just 10 degrees. You have to hope you stored your unit at full charge. If it’s too low you won’t have enough wattage to finish warming them before you can recharge them.
@Jasonoid
@Jasonoid 14 күн бұрын
@@djrtime1398 power isn't pulled from the batteries to charge, it's only taken in by solar power or AC charging initially until the batteries get up to 40F.

@ so if I have this unit in my offgrid cabin and it’s below freezing, and my generator won’t start and it’s cloudy out I’m screwed even if it has a full charge??? I guess it’s time to go primitive and fire up the wood burner, light a candle and strum my acoustic guitar till the batteries warm up…
@michaelbeatty130
@michaelbeatty130 14 күн бұрын
@@djrtime1398Generally speaking the battery can discharge at lower temperatures than it can charge. So if it’s cloudy and offgrid you won’t be charging anyhow, but if it’s > -4F then you can discharge the battery just fine (which will warm it up too)

Great video! Really interesting to see the new products for 2025 from the major manufacturers. Impressive job presenting so much information with so little time with the products. Biggest disappointment: Bluettie Apex 300 major downgrade in the solar input from the AC300's I have. 60V limit causes the same problem as the Anker 3800 (which I also have) - it's really hard to get adequate solar input. I'd classify it as a fail.

After waiting a decade for Tesla's tiled look solar roof, I'm VERY excited to see the Jackery product. Still not what I'm looking for esthetically, but I'm thrilled there's progress in the market. I also like the idea of the Pecron F5000. WIth that out put, you can easily set up a portable array and use it for daily EV charging w/o a home PV system. AWESOME!!!

Vatrer's power station looks like a laser printer! I said in Will Prowse's comments that it'd be nice if somebody made a powerful "power station" with an inverter, sockets, USB etc all built in, but then an empty space where you can slot in your own server rack batteries. They've almost done it!
@Jasonoid
@Jasonoid 14 күн бұрын
So kinda like a server rack mounted inverter all in one?
@michaelmartin9022
@michaelmartin9022 14 күн бұрын
@Jasonoid yes, but those usually just have a place where you have to mount your own outlets, usually a generator cord wired right into the home. My idea would have sockets built right into it, as well as USB ports, 12v etc. Basically like the big old Bluetti head units, but built (and ideally priced!) more like a DIY whole-home inverter (maybe a tad more "stylish"), and ready to be wired up to batteries the user supplies. There could be 12, 24 and 48v versions so the user could choose their own batteries to suit, and add / swap / upgrade over time.

Their vaunted "48v accessories" for their 48v output ended up being a splitter to make it into 4 12v ciggie lighters. They proudly launched the "Swapsolar" with a power station and fridge that share internal batteries, but I expect that's all there will ever be (bizarre that their backpack power stations don't use swapsolar batteries, they'd be a perfect fit). They're like little kids, bouncing from one "great idea" to another, abandoning old ones just as quickly...

Great job Jason. I'm guessing Bluetti didn't let you open the AC ports on the side. I was curious to see what kind of 240 AC port they included. Nobody have shown it. I'm with you on the Pecron F5000. Excited about that because I know they will priced that accordingly. I hope they make a F3000 with the same features but less capacity for better mobility. Lastly I disagree with you on the Pecron new design. I happen to love the old design because of the rubber feet on all corners. Don't have to worry about scratching your shiny new power station. Can always change out the rubber feet.
@Jasonoid
@Jasonoid 14 күн бұрын
I was in their booth lifting up the ports and a lady ran over and said 'don't film the ports please, they aren't final'....so the unit here at the show is a pre-production model, not a final version. It will probably have a 30amp or 50 amp 240v connection.
@Firephosure

@@Jasonoid haha. I figured tat much because no one have shown it. The no DC ports is a downer for the Apex 300. I don't want to be carrying extra adapter just for that. The Pecron F5000 looks more promising although 5000wh+ is gonna make that sucker really heavy.

I don’t know where Bluetti is going with the Apex units. Big AC output but relatively tiny solar input. Also has built in battery unlike the AC300 so you can take just the main unit with you but it has no DC output. Pecron F unit looks interesting if they have improved the quality of the solar charger.

The one thing that was kinda interesting about the Apex 300 is that they dropped the solar input voltage down to 60v (AC300 used two 150v controllers). Not sure why they think people want that... Bummer!

You still have to have fossils fuels to charge reliably. We got 10 inches snow in k c mo last week. Another 3" last night. 3°F at night, overcast for days. The cost for solar ... the storage batteries are too high priced. Tri fuel generator for outage days are best option for this climate, my opinion.

Please explain what you mean by "it sounds like the older AC300 system can have even more battery storage WITH the Apex 3000." I have recently bought a second AC300 with 4 more B300 batteries just to increase my storage capacity. The second AC300 make the system more resilient, but I wish the AC300 wasn't limited to using only 4x B300 batteries. I know the AC500 can use, what, about 8x batteries per head unit, but I preferred the AC300 because of less standby inverter losses. TYIA

Will Prowse has several videos on using server rack batteries, a big "home" hybrid inverter, and a cart, to make your own bespoke "power station" for cheap. It takes some work, and ain't pretty, but you can get thousands of watts in and out. And easily replace anything that breaks!

@@JeffreyAdams-kt5gvvery shortly US citizens will be paying a lot more for these Chinese imports through the promised tariffs. Are you willing to pay for the much higher North American design/engineering, marketing, overhead costs as well? I don’t think the average US or Canadian citizen realizes how much more expensive it s to bring a concept to market without Asian labour outsourcing. Any endeavour would make the product like these power stations, uncompetitive. We literally don’t have the capacity to replace China’s capabilities. The US public school system is rated very low when compared to other countries and unfortunately Canada is going down the same path with a watered down curriculum where the average teacher has a very minimal grasp of mathematics and science. If you need a power station, buy one these units from China because you will be waiting a helluva long time, if ever, for these types of devices to come from your country. Musk understands this, which is why he wants a significant increase in engineering work visas to the US and it’s not to compete with relatively cheap high quality Chinese products that already exist. He is learning this lesson the hard way because he went the cheap Chinese route for his beloved Tesla’s. Now demand for his products are drying up in that country because they took his intellectual property and are now building a better product.
