My Aunt and Uncle are devout Christians (my uncle is a pastor) and they are very chill with the lgbtq+. They were supportive of my gay brother, they encouraged my trans friend to hang out with us and their family for Easter, and they respect other members of the lgbt. Not every Christian is against lgbt, God loves everyone not just straight cis Karens.

as a christian (who is a bi trans guy) the verse they are referring to isn’t the original verse. the original verse was “man shall not lie with a child as he does with a woman” it was changed in the 1930-1940s. plus you are right, the bible gives guidance to a better life, but it shouldn’t dictate how one should live. the thing i follow whole heartedly is The 10 Commandments. It’s literally the summary of what God wants to teach. (this is what i believe 😌)

As a Christian, the thing I follow wholeheartedly is love the Lord your God with all your heart and love your neighbour as yourself. Not that I just ignore everything else but that bit explicitly is the most important and should take precedence over anything else in the Bible in the event of any conflict, even the Ten Commandments.

But in the Gospels, Jesus makes a statement that's generally interpreted as essentially repealing the dietary laws - it doesn't explicitly say all of them, but "it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a man, but what comes out of the mouth" is reasonably interpreted as such. It's just incorrect to take something in the OT and say "the Bible says this" without looking at whether Jesus said anything on the subject. He upheld some laws, made others redundant by imposing stronger restrictions, and actually said not to bother with one or two. And made the whole thing subject to the two new Commandments He said were the most important of all. If something is said in the OT and then Jesus says "but actually..." then the Bible in its entirety doesn't say that.

So what He said when He was born on Earth to show us how to live is the most authoritative part of the Bible for Christians. Second of all, the Old Testament didn't fall from the sky complete in its entirety, it was compiled by people. (As was the New Testament, but what I'm saying is the OT wasn't "originally written by God" any more than the NT) Third of all, I'm not saying it doesn't matter. I'm saying that certain parts of it are less applicable to Christians or altered in interpretation by what Jesus said. Testament means covenant, agreement. The OT covers the first agreement between God and the Jewish people. The NT covers the new agreement between God and the whole world, or that much of it which chooses to take part - i.e. Christians. Essentially Jesus renegotiated the contract and the some of the original terms no longer apply.

I'm not against the LGBT community. I mean, I'm part of it. Everyone in there's kinda chill, but my parents say otherwise. God said that we should love everyone equally, but not that one special person. The one special person that God prepared for us. If God designed you as a man, you're destined to be with a woman, and vice versa. I'm just... confused? I told my parents that being gay is okay, but they had this long talk about it after.
