Interesting Lore Fact: From the moment that Keyes became assimilated by the Flood, he held the infection back in his mind for hours. The Flood did everything they could to probe his brain for anything that could potentially be more food for them (Earth). Despite this, the Captain refused to give up and instead, used his other memories, such as his military career and personal life, to fend off the Flood, which the Flood would in turn devour. This man had both his consciousness and some of his most central memories devoured in order to protect Earth, and yet by the time you find him hours later, he’s still aware to warn you and still holding the Flood back in his mind. What a Beast.

One of the best things about Halo is when it switches from a sci-fi shooter with the Covenant in to a survival horror with the Flood. They did a good job coming up with a cohesive story as well as giving a coherent reason for there to be a wide variety of enemy types. If you watch the developers react to a speedrun of Halo, they admit that they made The Library mission waaay too long.

One thing I've noticed about a lot of people playing Halo for the first time is that they try to get through levels/areas without trying to kill all the enemies first, and that actually makes the game harder. Also, they almost never experiment with the other weapons and only use the AR, which is bad for fighting elites and jackals. A bit of a rant here: Part of me kinda blames it on how games are designed these days. Back then, we just assume that we have to kill the enemies to progress. Nowadays, there are so many handholding in games, that unless that we were told explicitly to kill all the enemies, we wouldn't do it.

Killing every enemy on the Library level legit might make the mission an hour with no deaths. I’d argue Dontai’s method of brute forcing is more efficient, at least compared to my first run of Halo CE

Yeah i think it's because in COD campaigns, which were sick (like cod4, mw2 era), enemies would keep spawning until you advanced, which would trigger some other cinematic event. Might've trained ppl out of clearing enemies. Library on Legendary is actually an easier mission if you just move forward enough to trigger a wave, then retreat around the corner and blast them as they come at you. Trying to run-n-gun the Library makes it way harder (although i think the developers wanted you to play it that way - as a frantic, panicked sprint)

I like how they make the first couple flood levels extra spooky by not having Cortana for them. Dontai is right to say that this Halo is the most maze-like. I think it's a lot harder to get lost in the later games. I've probably played through Combat Evolved 100 times in my life time, but I still get lost on some of the levels like this that use the same rooms repeated a bunch of times.

4:20 the reason why chief is the only one with Mjolnir, is because he's the only one around capable to use it, if a normal person used it then they would die by the suit snapping their bones, tearing their muscles and giving them a painful death. Not only that, but it's really, really expensive to make, so they can't really mass produce authentic mjolnir suits. But they managed to do it to the spartan 3's by giving them one without shields and less durable armor. It was called SPI armor, and even tho it's worse than Mjolnir, it's still pretty good, it's the in between of ODST Armor and Mjolnir.

Halo 2 is a HUGE step-up in terms of story and the Anniversary graphics (I like CE don't come at me lol). You will be truly enthralled in the universe, and Halo 3 is also that. I think you'll have a suprise for the 2nd one as well that wasn't taken universally well when it was released.

Introduction to the Covenant and the Flood as well as having Master Chief and Cortana's story presented in a straightforward and clear way is why CE is number 1 to me. It's also something that a new player who isn't hugely invested in lore can easily follow along with. Whereas 2 may have more detailed story lines there's a lot a new player like Dontai is not going to understand going into it and then there's the abrupt ending due to the original ending having been cut.

Never have I watched multiple gameplay videos back to back until now. So cool to see someone completely new to the franchise going through the game(s) for the first time! One thing I'd point out is that while the OG graphics are definitely dated, the reason many people don't like the Anniversary graphics is because they brighten every level to the point where the original vibe the devs were going for is lost to a degree. They look good, but specifically it stands out in the level where the Flood is introduced. The original tone of those scenes is dark and hard to see and adds to the horror element Bungie was going for. In the Anniversary graphics you lose some of that to bright blue lighting everywhere with a more sterile feel to the environments. There are also different parts of the game where there is inconsistency between graphics modes and the usable space on screen, for example, you can be aiming around a tree and your shots are being stopped, but when you switch graphics you see that the tree in the newer graphics is offset so that it's blocking your view and your shots are just hitting a tree that's invisible with the other graphics on. Poor optimization throughout in general. Hopefulyl I explained that well... Maybe give the game another shot one day with the OG graphics on. Either way, looking forward to more of this series!

Also, plasma pistol overcharges instantly deplete the shields of elites, after which they can be killed with one magnum headshot. The plasma pistol and magnum combo is so OP against the covenant, but dogshit against the flood cuz plasma weapons do basically nothing to the flood Also PLS continue the Halo series playthrough. Halo REACH should've been played before CE, story wise, but since u started with CE, it might be best to play it after halo 3

What I loved about this game is that it didn’t hold your hand like how games do today. For me at least, Halo CE came out when I was like 3yo and took me till I was 5 to beat it on legendary cause that shit was so hard. Especially the library, fuck that mission.
