Silas how you doing buddy? I love watching you go morel hunting or anything else you like to do it is your channel. Those squawkers can take a walk. Don't allow other people to dictate what you like to do we are here to watch you not the other way around. Get some telescoping poles.They will fold up very well. I paddle some of the white water rivers hear in NC and carry a fishing pole that will fit in a small dry bag and have really good luck with them

Enjoyed the vedio Silas, reminded me of my childhood days with my grandfather. We would go in the woods just to explore. Unfortunately those woods are underwater now and what isn’t has houses on it. Duke Power built a damn there and nothing remains as it was. But I still have those good memories. Thanks for taking us alone .

12:46 That's one of the biggest burls I've seen in quite a while. Woodworkers pay top dollar for that ugly and deformed tree trunk. Bigger and uglier fetch the best prices and THAT one, my friend, is worth a fortune....if you can retrieve it. I've always seen them higher in the tree and not so big. Smaller ones are good for bowls, cups and cutting boards. Bigger ones are good for table tops, but this one would make some awesome Bar Slabs. The wood grain inside is unique in every burl. Ugly on the outside, but beautiful within. Like cutting open a Geode, only it's wooden instead of rocks. That's quite a catch on those Morrels! Great find!! YUM! YUM! 👍

About six years ago we had two large silver maple trees taken down in our front yard and ended up with about a twenty ft circle of dirt and mulch from grinding the stumps. A few months later we had mushrooms all over that area. Some large white ones and some small golden button mushrooms. Of course we didn’t eat them but later a fellow at a nursery said the small ones were edible. I guess they were growing off the roots in the ground. Still get a few in the spring.

The way you feel about the ruined Morels is how the rest of us feel about you crushing good cars! Also I hate you for not being allergic to poison ivy! My dog runs through it and I get it from petting him! Just finally getting over it now. Been suffering with it the last 2+ weeks!

Wow, those are a lot of morels you found there. And what big ones they are. Do you taste a difference between the big ones and the smaller ones? And how wonderful to walk without running into anyone. I've had that a few times in the Swiss mountains. Nice walks without meeting anyone, except for a few cows. And your last words are absolutely true. "Don't worry about what somebody else thinks." We worry way too much about what others think. It has taken me a lot of effort to stop thinking that way. Well, Silas, super thanks for your nice video, and I look forward to the next one. The bigger ones soak up more butter when you cook them and that can affect their taste, but otherwise I feel like they’re the same!

They do some, but not that many. Same principle to why there is still grass even tho animals eat grass. They just don’t eat that much.

I remember when I was a kid I got sick from eating too many morels took me years to where I could stand to smell them frying and many more years before I could eat them again but I never stopped hunting them until I got too old and arthritic. I remember finding the large dark red morels along rotted tree trunks, someone said they weren’t edible that they would mess with the balance of red and white corpuscles in your blood, there was an old barber in our town who loved them, he smoked lucky strike’s and dined on these giant red morels and died in his 99th year. That little red one you found I think is called a false morel or an elfin saddle and the Audubon book says they’re not edible. I never liked picking these big yellow ones late in the season because of all the bugs, leaches and ants in them but I’d soak em in salt water and rinse them real good. Some folks around here would cut them in half batter them in flour and lay them on a wax paper covered cookie sheet and freeze them and cook them later in the year, then there is some who would dehydrate them and grind them in a pepper mill and sauté with onions, garlic and bell peppers when making an omelette, anyhow when it comes to mushroom hunting,cherish the good years and learn from the bad ones, thanks for taking me shroomin with ya.😊

The little one I found is actually in the same family as morels and is completely edible. As for the red ones that look similar to morels, those are Gyromitra. Some are completely edible once cooked, others can be deadly. Fortunately the dangerous variety does not grow in Kansas!
