Yo I LOVE that they did this. 1) Having it start off from one of their actual vlogs is brilliant. 2) The set is very obviously just four walls arranged differently for each scene but that's all you need. They could easily do a miniseries with such a minimal set. 3) Toilet exit is my fav gag.

I love the little analogue horror touches, the random VHS glitches, the quick flashes of things between video frames, Shayne making a cursed face, the weird electronic high pitch noises. Shayne really did his research for this one and I love it. I also love the canon of Olivia just hanging out in the backrooms, being a backrooms entity

this sketch confirmed two things for me. 1) Olivia is an Eldritch being stuck in a human body and isn't sure if she's more Eldritch or human and just runs with it and 2)gif Shayne was ever in an actual horror movie situation he would absolutely play the class clown or dumb jock persona while he's actually figuring out and making sure everyone survives and I love it. Though the backrooms is a bit old hat at this point, this was an unexpected and fresh parodic take on that genre of video; with the minimal set that’s clearly just a corner of a room reused over and over again, the perfunctory in-between shots of “creepy” imagery, even a goofy looking stick monster, embellished with a few Smosh-specific jokes, makes it feel very earnest and thought out. That is if this were a skit and not actual footage of Shayne iCarly trapped in the Backrooms.
