Cool stuff and sadly i had so many of those figures ( Skaven / Ogres) back in the 80s 😢
@DrBlaxill5 ай бұрын
Close to £400 there I'd say- at ebay prices anyway. Ogres alone are £30 each, Warlock £25, chaos dwarves, skaven, orcs, Umber Hulk also valuable. Pre slottas less so, there's nowhere near the love for those, and they're often more suspectable to lead rot so quality can be iffy.

The Umber Hulk is missing his head, which is a shame, but I still find myself surprised at the quality and range of the rest of the haul!

I've got that SKAVEN Warlord holding the spear above his head lol. I got quite a few of those 80s sculpts as they were still selling them or selling them off when I started WHFB in 1992 and the new minis were coming in..... Arrrrhhh I remember the excitement of entering GW in Preston and they had a big box full of reduced price Miniatures and a lot of them were the old sculpts.

Couldn't help but notice Kimril Giant Slayer in there who cropped up in your research on the history of Troll Slayers. I still maintain he's really a beserker from his role as 'The Enforcer' in a pre-Slayers 2nd Edition mail order army.
@ClydeMillerWynant10 ай бұрын
There's also a Dark Elf in your haul who appeared on the same flyer ('Five Sample Armies' that came with Ravening Hordes). He's called Hanguir Hellstorm. You're probably familiar with it, but if not it's available online and well worth looking up, the Orcs especially have amazing names and blurbs and there was a Norse army among the five for heaven's sake.

Congratulations on your nifty haul! A heads up, Hasslefree Miniatures are making an ogre "inspired by" Hrothyogg (I bet it inspires GW's lawyers :P). Looking at this lot is a trip down memory lane as it was when I was most active painting GW minis. Currently in the garage I've got all the original skaven, most of the original chaos dwarves, sorcerors and familiars, giant ogres, Paranoia troubleshooters, the limited edition zoat and fimir, plus a lot of the AD&D minis. I think I'm going to have to dig that lot out for a good appaisal ^_^
@MrEthicsgradient10 ай бұрын
Yes, Hasslefree do two versions of ‘Axenarf’, I have both and they are lovely models and very much in the style of the Jes Goodwin ogres (but bigger)
@MrEthicsgradient10 ай бұрын
Oh. My. Word. What a haul! Firstly, you have my sympathy for the rail journey, it sounds all to familiar (looking at you CrossCountry trains)! I would say you got quite a bargain. As someone with a but if a Jes Goodwin Ogre obsession (I think I’m now only missing the rare mutant ogre and the blood bowl one), I know what they go for. Really hope you do a longer piece on them - great to be reminded of that original WD advert, and the John Blanche art that graced the inside of WFRP. I recall the large Greek/Roman figure from an old Citadel catalogue, where it was described as a ‘giant troll’ I think. I spotted at least one Nick Lund Sculpted dwarf from Grenadier UK in there as well. Look forward to more on the magic Jiffy bag!

Congrats! I love finding the old minis for a nice price. This week I found 6 metal tomb king scarab swarms and the original metal Gaunt's Ghosts plus a few more Tanith models to add to my collection. I'd love to find the old Talisman figures at a decent price. I found them once on e-bay but sadly they were not in my price range, same with the Sisters of Sigmar set.
@ClydeMillerWynant10 ай бұрын
Had another look and while I can't make all of them out too well you also seem to have scored one of the orcs from the Ravening Hordes armies I mentioned below - Jabbering Krilak Badstink. He's a good find though for myself I would prefer Hardnose Mard the Truly Unpleasant or especially Krapper Snat the Nasty Piece of Work who was also the orc leader from McDeath under another name.

Entertaining bag of treasure, a couple I have in my hoard. Hrothyogg .. everyone's favourite ogre, you lucky devil. I have the warrior priest ogre, he's very wild and savage compared to the rest .. I'd love to see Jes Goodwin resculpt them larger or have these reissued, never get bored of admiring his sculpts.

The big "roman" is a old troll champion
@ClydeMillerWynant10 ай бұрын
Hrothyogg is indeed a wonderful figure and (sadly for me) the only one of the giant ogres that I have as the others are all great too. Perversely the ogres he captains for me are Golgfag and his boys from the earlier Regiment of Renown - also Jez Goodwin, but not as good models, I guess they turned out to be a first go at what then lead to the amazing giant ogres. Unfortunately the Golgfag ogres really are a bit on the small side these days though I guess I would still argue that an ogre is an ogre.
@ClydeMillerWynant10 ай бұрын
Just checked and that's slightly incorrect as the champion from Golgfag's made it through to the Giant Ogres range. I guess he was deemed to be the best of the bunch which he probably is, but he's still in my view notably inferior to the rest of that later range.

Kind of surprised when they needed an Ogre character for later editions that they didn't go with Hrothyogg instead of the rather unfortunately named Golgfag, lol...

I guess Golgfag has that little bit more history even than Hrothyogg, and it’s always fun when they can keep stuff from the very start alive
