Only an employee would say that, the ecotech engine has design flaws, and some would say it’s designed to fail

You’re very courageous for two reasons, firstly it’s a ford and secondly it’s ecotec

When they did the oil pump they must surely have changed both belts? Can you find out? Also make sure they used oil that has the WSS-M2C948-B specification. If not then get an oil change immediately and put that stuff in. Castrol 0W20 Magnatec is what Ford uses but it must be WSS-M2C948-B because that's compatible with the wet belts. If you use that at every service, that engine should easily last another 10 years/100k miles. That's a great buy. The reason people have problems is because they use the wrong oil and it eats the belts. The facelift cars shouldn't have any of the cooling issues of the earlier car either, so you've got a lovely car there.

The degas hose is fixed on the facelift but there are other hoses that can leak the turbo coolant pipe rusts on some cars it seems certain ones in production must have used a different metal that rusts easier and that's built into the turbo so u cant just replace the pipe easily. I owned a 2015 facelift and the heater matrix pipe engine bay side was leaking coolant from there and the turbo pipe was rusty on mine but no leak then the wet belt went on it too expensive to fix it I suspect the wrong oil was used as you say so I got a replacement car instead of wasting money fixing it as everything kept going wrong at once on that car gearbox was also noisy in 1st and 2nd gear I've now lost all faith in buying another Ford and theres also no hope for modern Peugeot Citroen and more recently Vauxhall models all doomed with the same wet belt in the 1.2 puretech engine rules out so many good cars ruined by crap petrol engines

I hope you dont have any problems. It seems if you have it regularly serviced should be okay and use the correct oils.

I got a 2016 fiesta 1 litre ecoboost. Only found out about the problems with the ecoboost 3 weeks ago. Going to get the wetbelt and cambelts changed as a precaution. £900 + VAT.

Ive seen several cars online with over 100k miles so they can last but just lots of horror stories but suppose most cars have some weaknesses! Had to replace the battery and thats it so far
@eventhori3onАй бұрын
Maybe you can turn it round quick.. but if it's got a spotty service history? And getting over 60k I would look at the wet belt change.. the weird thing is they had the oil pump re done which you would think they would do the wet belt at the same time? I guess not.. but like a cambelt 60-70k so it's due..most buyers look at mileage and have no clue about this engine.. so cleaned up it will go.. if the wet belt was changed though. Then things would be better

Surely if they’ve replaced the oil pump they’ve changed the two wet belts at the same time. I’d try to contact either the previous owner or the garage that replaced the oil pump to ask the question.
@michaelc6325Ай бұрын
@@tonyc2837they have obviously just replaced the oil pump. The belts will need changing straight away.900 quid by a good independent specialist.the old oil pump must have been damaged by the degrading belts.

I have had 4 Focus cars. 2 Mk1s 1 Mk3 and now a Mk4. No major problems with any, had 1 Mk1 for 10 years and the Mk3 8 years.

Any ecoboost?
@petedix255411 күн бұрын
@JohnsMotoring yes 2,the the last one, a Mk3.5, had it 8 years, same colour as the 1 in this video, a 1 litre Titanium X, great car, no real issues. Traded for a Mk4.5 last year 1 litre ST line X. No issues so far but only had it 8 months. Always serviced regularly, usually at main dealers. Both cars bought nearly new, under a year old.

Any updates on car?

Car is currently rented out on turo. Its been all over ireland the past few works. The check engine light pops up sometimes after codes were deleted so will get that checked again eventually but running good at the moment!

@JohnsMotoring problem with these are oil gets contaminated with bits and bits of wet belt too . And oil pick up in sump gets clogs up. Exhaust off and sump then clean pick up mesh and same time check wet belt for condition

Why do Wet belts fail...
@bigpete11110015 күн бұрын
They require a specific oil and most places just put standard oil in

Because the oil breaks down the rubber timing belt causing rubber pieces to clog the oil pump. Either the timing belt will break, or the oil pump will get clogged. Either way you can kiss goodbye to the engine

How can a 1ltr engine, be much good in a heavy car, a motorcycle yes , old mini of the 60s 7os yes, but a Ford focus?
@tonyc2837Ай бұрын
Because it supplies the same bhp and more torque than the 1.6 litre engine that it replaced.

the torque of 125hp variant with overboost is more than a 2.0 litre naturally aspirated engine now if you want watch my video of my focus 1.0 ecoboost with a light stage 2 to see what is really capable of
