It's actually gotten worse since the two years have passed since upload. KoS is now, basically, paramount for survival. If you see another player you don't know, kill him/her immediately. Because he/she is going to try and kill you 99% of the time. You could be NAKED and they'll still kill you.

first time playing DayZ on my cousins computer.I'm looting this apartment complex, and I hear something and hide behind the door, I come out slowly with my hands up, the guy turns around and goes "you scared the fuck out of me!" and I laugh and apologize for scaring him next thing I know I see the mosin then blackness. Another time I was searching what appeared to be a NATO outpost and I heard someone and readied my axe, and hugged the wall, once I started hearing people atleast 5 of 'em,I said "friendly" because it was only a matter of time before they searched the building I was in, they invited me out,my hands were up, and I told them I was new to the game and looking to just get started maybe find some people and pal around, and one guy offered me advice on how to play,next thing I know my leg and arm get broken, I rise to my knees, and I'm guessing it was the leader of the group walked up and said "this how you play DayZ,you fucking faggot bitch." then the screen went black. Then the last time I played I was walking down a road, looking for shelter from the storm, I wasn't paying attention to what was in front of me, and all I hear is "Down on the ground!" so I drop, I look forward to see 8 people 3 laying prone with LMG's, 2 circling around me with M4's, and 2 against a building with mosins, and 1 walking towards me with a pistol at their side, she knelt beside me and asked if I need anything, I asked if they had any spare mosin ammo,a good place to wait out the storm,some materials for a fire, and a bit of food, they gladly handed everything over, and they told me they were the server's active police force,and they were hunting down a bandit group in the area, and not to load the mosin till after they left, I listened to the order,and that was that,only time I met good people in DayZ.

That's the reason why I don't play DayZ anymore. I founded my first car in DayZ and that was fully okay. I found a guy and trusted him. He had a weapon (what I don't know: he had no ammo) and doesn't killed me. That was an vanilla server (Zombies supposed to be the real danger) BTW. I drove with him some miles to some towns and he asked me if we can hook up a friend. The friend was also friendly and drove to an other spot. Suddenly they killed me and said to me that they only waited that they can find ammo. I hate that. You can't play any survival game without have friendly players. In DayZ the only friendly players are fresh spawns or players that can't kill you. WarZ was the worst game. I actually paid for this game and got killed without find anything. When you want to kill everyone than play CoD FFA and not an survival game.

In Unturned I had three signs leading up to my base that warned you about me shooting anyone approaching. First sign: WARNING! I can see you, turn back now or die. Second sign: I mean it. You cant see me, but I can see you perfectly, turn back now. Third sign: If you walk past this sign I WILL open fire. Last warning. Two guys walked past it together and got mad at me for shooting them, they yelled at me in english after reading all three warning signs that stretched over 500 fucking feet. Most people in this game would have shot you the second you rendered.

Yeah humans suck, I knew the results before watching it. The players in the game overcome "survival" pretty quickly and the resulting boredom results in killing EVERYBODY, whether they are a brand new spawn or not. Outside of PVP, the most dangerous thing in the game world is getting sick every 10 minutes from the rain. Left with not much to do but troll each other and practice role playing a psychopath that likes to force feed rotten kiwi to people. A toxic community which poisoned itself, with itself when left with no real gameplay. - and that's just the mod and also just my opinion, though I know I'm not alone in thinking it.
