Sometimes I get the feeling that theory was a purpose cause to keep creativity at bay. Go back in history and all the greats either didn't know theory or read music. They simply played what sounded good. Victor Wooten scratched the surface in his book. I went back to watch many blues and flamenco players Robert Johnson Wes Montgomery.. Paco de Lucia Diego del Gastor et al...zero theory zero schooling. Sadly the money making machine took over and so many stuck on theory...it is helpful but just slows many greats down...imho.

I used to do that when I was touring a lot. I couldn't do it for every show, but on a 3-month run I might get 10 lessons. I totally ripped Randy off and it's the smartest thing I ever did. If you can afford it, it's 100% worth the money. People teach their philosophy, in a manner of speaking. You can tell how a person thinks about music from the way they play, and getting lessons from a lot of different people will expose you to not just a bunch of cool tricks but also a lot of different angles to approach music from. It's really cool to tap into those veins of thought in my own playing. Sometimes I want to play really singable melodic parts, sometimes I want to have fun with phrasing, sometimes I want to do geometry, and on and on. It gives you not only techniques to explore, but entire mindsets. tl;dr get lessons from a lot of different people if you have the ability to do so

Tim Henson is just a monster on any guitar… I’ve been playing 30 years… granted I’m a singer.. I play very well… and sing better than I play guitar… but this kid makes me wanna practice more and more … he’s just amazing! Wow first time I heard him my jaw dropped! ❤

Wow, I normally don't like to hear people talk too long before getting to like "the meat" of the video, but I really enjoyed listening to you, you have a way of telling a story that I really like. And the more I watched the video the more I enjoyed you, just your enthusiasm was all around awesome. I'm definitely going to check out more of your channel. And I mean, dude OF COURSE we want to hear your progress with that riff, don't leave us hanging!

Dude! You are all in on music and I just enjoy playing when I can. As you know there is so much out there that we cannot possibly digest in a lifetime. EJ caught my attention way back then. Hearing Tim and crew blows my mind !

Yeah, I'm aware it's his signature nylon semi hollow guitar. I'm just surprised by how much it projects relative to how thin the body is.

Very funny. Tim is awesome. When I first started following the band. I expected someone arrogant but instead learned what great people they are. Funny and pretty down to earth when they talk to people. He doesn’t hold things as far as techniques like some secret. He is completely open about how they do their music. It just seems everything they do is about bringing their fans into their circle. I have a lot of respect and appreciation for them. I always walk away with the feeling that they love music. Yes it’s what they do and you would expect musicians to love music. But I would argue for some it sometimes just feels like a job for them. Polyphia just always makes me feel like they have just started a couple years ago with the level of passion and energy they put into what they do. To be this far along in their careers and still feel the way they do is amazing and interesting. They are the type of band that will continue to evolve I just hope it’s music I will enjoy as much as what they are doing right now.

Truly, except even though the songs are easier, it’s muh harder to replicate what EVH plays, it’s like no matter how I play it it doesn’t sound the same😂 it’s annoying cos he’s the only player where this happens to me
