"I didn't ask for one". That's not how the world works. Such a childish way of thinking. And I notice that about a lot of trans people. They are like children. They think like children. They are entertained with children's movies and things. They're stunted

Instead of labelling people who don't agree with you TERFS, why not start a discussion. Both sides could gain a better understanding and have more compassion for each other. I get labelled a TERF because I don't subscribe to gender ideology. This doesn't mean I don't think you shouldn't exist. I'm a woman's sex based rights activist. In order for me to be specific about what women need and want, we must be able to define what a woman is. A right like having access to female only spaces and services. We can't safeguard what we can't define. I hope this makes sense.

As a transmasc who has had kids, I seriously considered getting a hysterectomy. But after top surgery, I realised I couldn't go through with it. Recovering from surgery is hard enough without having to take care of other people as well! Congrats on the surgery! I'm glad your recovery is going well.

@@jackriver8385 for myself, what I did was: -meal prep enough food for the apocalypse for me that meant: 3 meals a day for at least 2 weeks, portioned and frozen. Also for food: buy a lot of nutritious but quick prepared food. I got a lot of shelf stable microwavable stuff, protein bars and shakes, etc. -make a mealtrain: people sign up to bring you food -get as much childcare as you can afford: I had my kid's other coparent be their sole caregiver for 1 week, then my mom helped so I was like 50% parenting for the next couple weeks, my kid was also in childcare 9-5 monday-friday) -talk to your kids about your surgery beforehand, that it's something fun and exciting for you but it means you have a big booboo and you can't do any picking them up, wrestling, etc for a little while (or explanation relevant to their age). For me I put my kid's mattress on the floor and made other modifications to our apartment so they could be more independent and I wouldn't have to lift them. Seriously do not cheat on the lifting restriction -ASK FOR HELP. ASK ASK ASK. -remember that it may suck for a bit but it is temporary. Do as little as possible, don't worry about keeping the house clean or doing any projects, just focus on making sure you and your kids are fed and clean. Watch a lot of TV lol. -lastly, all the usual advice for top surgery recovery in terms of staying ahead of pain, organizing your supplies, get the special pillow, get a nice water bottle, set alarms to take Tylenol and supplements, etc. -youre awesome and I'm happy for you to get surgery yay!!!!! You can do this!

@@Sonicfan-cc1te Well from your next birthaversary they can do nothing about it, job or not, and any attempt to would infringe on your human rights. You're lucky to live in a country with a public healthcare system, like me: I have the NHS, so I'd STRONGLY recommend you begin speaking with your GP about this now. Although what I will say is that your place of work may have some insurance coverage which may help pay with certain elements of your transition. So yeah... Good news is they're not and never were responsible for funding or otherwise adminning your transition, medical or otherwise, so they're pretty much out of the equation. My hysterectomy was such a nightmare! I was in the hospital for 3 days, because I could not pee! I had a catheter, I bled profusely post-op, and was in the worst pain I ever experienced... but none of the pain medications they gave me helped. Once I was able to pee on my own, they let me leave. The bleeding continued for another 3 weeks, but I have no cervix so... The pain continued for 3 months, and once it was finally gone, I was able to really enjoy the euphoria of having no uterus! I also noticed that I lost a few pounds. But now I am 46, and even though I kept my ovaries, I'm going through early menopause. And it sucks!

Glad to see you on here again! And I'm glad you're talking about this, there's so little information about trans reproductive healthcare out there .. I will get a hysterectomy in the future, it's good to learn more about your experience with that, and I didn't know you could leave your cervix! Also I very recently started T and my gender therapists seem to leave it up to me to decide whether or not I want a hysterectomy, so I think you're right about the cancer thing not being as big of a risk as it was made out to be. Edit to say that I'm glad you have great bones haha

@@guidedbygreen1480 Technically you may get menopause because your menstruation is paused, but if you keep the ovaries you can keep producing the hormones so you don't have menopause symptoms. radical hysterectomy is different. radical hysterectomy is normally if you have cancer of your reproductive organs so you want to remove more than you strictly need to just in case. It seems like you searched up the definition of radical hysterectomy. I wonder why you didn't read the whole article or not see the information about the other types of hysterectomies while googling? It is pretty easy to see, I would recommend looking it up again and reading about it.

This video was good to see. I haven't even started medical transition so if I get a hystie it won't be for years. I might also want bottom surgery, including a vaginectomy, unfortunately I can't find info on what kind of hystirectomy is required for that. Anyways, it's comforting to see trans ppl talk about procedures that I'm interested in, especially since it's often hard to find or understand info on them, idk it's just comforting to feel like there are trans ppl that I can see and know of that have had them. (:

Just some stuff: I am a 16 year old transmasc, I've been out pretty publicly out for quite a few years now. I've been trying to research everything specifically about top surgery and what differences it makes weather I start testosterone before or after because my guardian that I will probably continue to live with due to our financial struggles (I live in Norway so insurance is a little less stressful, but still a quite bit...) and my guardian does not want me to have any surgery or hormone treatment, and frequently uses _very_ ... negative words to describe them, and I'm just very stressed about if I'll lose our relationship. I love my mom, and I don't want to lose her, but I also want to feel like myself and look at myself without very very distressing dysphoria and feel like I have personal autonomy. It's just that everytime I attempt to research this stuff I get reminded that I have them, and that as well as starts a whole downspiral of dysphoria and very uncomfortable feeings. And I just feel like getting top surgery first would be something less noticable for her than if I show up with a deep-ass voice and (fucking great) facial hair... I know it's still a couple years til I'm of legal age but I just feel very tired and stressed because of all this...

Hey Ashton! This was a really interesting video! As a trans masc person I pretty sure I may want a hysterectomy in future but it’s not something I’ve thought about too much. I mainly at this point use birth control to suppress my periods because of dysphoria and so far that’s worked. It’s killed a majority of that dysphoria but I may in future want a hysterectomy (probably the same kind you got) b/c who knows what will happen in the years to come. Anyways hope you had a great day! Also I agree with you about scars! I love sharing recovery stuff and scar timelines cause I think it’s cool. Like I’m over a year post opt top surgery and it’s been interesting to my scars go from bright red to pale pink/white

hey, thank you for this video. i'm only a minute or two in but a lot of what you're saying is resonating. it's occurred to me recently that i've actually got a Lot of dysphoria surrounding having a uterus/being able to get pregnant, which has definitely gone down some since ive been on T (no periods, yay!) but still isn't fully gone. so, i've been looking into a hysterectomy for sometime in the near future. this is helpful in both a "oh, this is a thing i can actually do" kind of way, and also a "okay, this is what the procedure will be like" way. thank you for this; i havent seen too many resources for trans people who've actually gotten a hysto.

Haven't finished the video yet but the comment about how your uterus is the one that was giving you cramps reminded me, though hopefully this is not the case for you, I read a study about cramps and some people still experience them after having their uterus removed. I think it's usually not the case, but worth looking into if you're someone who's considering a hysterectomy due to cramps. Thanks for making this video by the way!

Thanks for the video Ashton, this was super informative. Also it was really cool to hear that you’re currently doing grad school applications, I hope it goes well! I’m also doing post-grad things at the moment, I’ve been accepted into an honours program this year with hopeful pathways into PhD at the end of the year. Idk if it’s the sort of thing you’d make a video about but I’d be keen to hear a bit about what you’re going to be studying in grad school and what your future academic plans are, if that’s something you’re comfortable sharing on the internet. Also bc it’s always nice to hear leftist perspectives on academia. Wishing you the best of good vibes for this year ahead! -Cal
