Hey Dan, I'm a general aviation pilot here in Melbourne, Australia. I love your videos, got my first pair of Blundstone boots recently and your content was definitely a factor in that decision. Keep it up and thank you for the content!

Glad to hear it man! As an Australian, you’ll have to let me know what you think of those Aussie boots.

@@DanPKing16 I'm still breaking them in, but they are stylish and comfortable. I will be using them to instruct in cessnas and pipers in the near future.

@@arturvolpidude, I love them. I think you’ll hold the same opinion.

I've been using the executive 22" for 2 years. It's lighter and almost as tough as the full metal frame bags. I chose this bag since I'm not a commuter. People say to get the metal frame bag if you commute, but I've seen them get pretty bent up. Rampers almost see it as a challenge. 😂

I was a ramper for 24 years… never tried to demolish a bag ever but some are so heavy they tried to demolish me!!!! I’m inflight now!!!!

You’re forgiven…haha. I just dumped my LW Aurora for a strongbags vortex international…it’s amazing.

Wow!! Thank you! I almost bought that bag and didn’t think about that design flaw. If I get it, I guess I’ll have to be careful.

Still a great bag, you just have to be careful

I have the executive. You made the right choice. Only thing is, I got the plastic frame and wish I would’ve gotten the metal frame, when I see the rampers abusing it when the crew closet is MEL’d. it’s held up well though over the past couple of years. Only thing I had to replace was some of the screws, but LW has a repair kit.

Great videos. Could you still recommend the Aurora for a less frequent traveler that is aware of the zipper issue? I'm looking for a carry-on that maximizes storage of the 22H x 14W dimensions and looks more traditional than the Stealth or Executive; I don't want to appear that I'm trying to look like a pilot. Judging from your videos, the Aurora seems to allow for more packing in the main compartment than a lot of other traditional 22 x 14 luggage.

Sorry for the late response. Based off of what you are describing, I would definitely recommend the Aurora. In fact, the price is actually VERY good for what you get. If you compare it to brands like Tumi and Away, they are charging so much for a bag that I don't think will last nearly as long, nor can they carry as much as you can in the Aurora.

Thanks for the reply. This is a little long, but is probably good information for people following your Pack Like a Pilot series. I did end up ordering the Aurora expandable. Unfortunately, the one I received had a few issues. The nylon cover wasn't put on strait, so it look's like it is tipping to the left side because the cover is twisted counterclockwise on the plastic mould. You would have thought a wheel fell off by the way it looks from the front. This also made it very difficult to zip around the corners. The handle and J-Hook were not centered and mounted to the right side of center. The inside liner didn't have enough extra slack in it when it was sewn in, so you couldn't utilize the three spaces between the handle tubes without unzipping the liner. Not unzipping would likely tear the liner when packed. I did email LuggageWorks photos and they are sending out another one. Fingers crossed. Judging from your videos, this bag has been modified from yours. The retractable handle is pretty solid for an aluminum handle. I believe the nylon cover flap is more ridged in the bag I received and the expander zipper is on top of the main compartment zipper. Because of this, I doubt that the zipper drag would be an issue anymore. It sits up with plenty of room over the ground. This is not a light bag weighing in at 10.5 lbs., even with the suiter removed, so I would assume it could survive years of abuse, even for a frequent flyer. The main compartment plastic mould seems to be very strong without much flex. And yes, I think it would be tough to find another bag that delivers the same amount of value. I'm not sure the expander will be very useful; I think the bag would scream "gate check” if expanded. It is almost 10” thick with pockets (unpacked and unexpanded) and would easily be 11” when packed. The height is about 22.75” from the bottom foot to the highest point, which is the top of the retractable handle.

That's really strange! But Luggage Works will fix that problem. Their customer service is very good. I think it's an awesome bag in the long run.

And safe travels to you sir. I just get the cheapest luggage works bag Aurora I think. And then get a new one when it breaks every 4 years.
