Awesome video. I flew for three regionals and used the metal frame 737 Luggage Works bag. It's narrower than the standard bag and fits perfectly in the CRJ-200 overhead bin. The metal frame bags are a few pounds heavier but they're built like tanks. I've been flying for the airlines since 2001 and am only on my third Luggage Works bag and thats only because i wanted to try different models. I could have had the original bag refurbed and it would probably still be a workhorse. I've been at Atlas for 12 years now and we're unique in that we sometimes fly long trips, like two weeks long depending on the fleet you're on. I still use the standard 22" bag because a lot of foreign airlines wont let you bring the larger 26" bag as a carry-on. So, I've learned to pack two weeks worth of gear into that 22" bag. Useful tips: 1) Running shoes are just empty space and make awesome storage containers as you showed in your video. 2) I used to carry a plastic ziplock full of instant coffee packs, ketchup/mayo/mustard packs, sani-com/purell wipes, bandaids, advil, earplugs, etc. Now I keep them in Brightline storage panel that slides into my Aerocoast bag nicely. 3) If you buy moisture wicking quick dry workout clothes you can probably get by with one set. If i work out, I'll start taking a shower after in my workout clothes, soap them up, rinse them off and hang them over the chair in your room and roll it near the air conditioner so it dries quicker. 4) I always keep my pilot credentials (license/medical/passport) in the front zipper part of my flight kit and I'm religious about returning them immediately to that part of my bag if I take them out. One other thing I do is keep a credit card in my flight bag with my pilots license so if I misplace my wallet while I'm out and about on a layover I still have a form of payment and ID (passport) to get me through the trip. 5) I keep one of those little sewing kits that some hotels give you in the side pocket of my suitcase. Twice now over 20+ years of flying I've had a seam come undone in my uniform pants and it's a lifesaver.

Thanks for the tips! I too just started carrying a sewing kit as well as a few other things. I’ll be making a video about those soon. Glad to hear your luggage had been so durable. I’ll be waiting to the metal framed bags here soon. The Aurora has been great for me, but I think it’s about time.

Hey Dan! Best video I’ve watched regarding this topic. Thanks for putting it together. What are your thoughts on the travel pro flight crew 5 22” roller bags?
@DanPKing16
@DanPKing16 Жыл бұрын
I don’t have any personal experience with it. Just a general observation: I notice a lot of flight attendants with this bag. I’m not sure why. I haven’t seen too many pilots with them, but that may also be because pilots tend to stick to one bag over another because every other pilot they know has that bag. Many of us lack originality. From the looks, it’s very similar to the Aurora bag. The travel pro has good reviews and those people that have it seem to like it.

Awesome video/editing and the content is super helpful. Curious how you store the computer equipment you mentioned that you bring along. I'm trying to decide between the Aurora 22" and FlightCrew 5 22". FC5 has a built-in laptop sleeve in an exterior pocket, but I worry about laptops getting damaged in it trying to go in and out of the 200s/700s or by ground handlers when non-revving and being forced to gate check.
@DanPKing16
@DanPKing16 2 жыл бұрын
These are all legitimate concerns. I store mine in my cockpit bag (see the link in my description for episode 1 about my cockpit bag). My biggest piece of advice, do your best to try NOT to store any electronics in your roller bag. I would even bring a laptop bag of some sort so I could ensure it stays in the cockpit with me.

A few extra tips from someone who's been on the road in 121 for over 15 years. 1: Use the packing folders like the ones from Eagle Creek. They keep your clothes much more neatly organized and save space. I bring one with clean clothes and a second for dirty clothes to keep things separated. 2: I only pack one set of workout gear, but I buy the good stuff that dries quickly. I give them a good scrub in the shower in the hotel room to get rid of the sweat, wring them out in my towel and hang them to dry. As long as they have at least a few hours they'll be clean and bone dry for the next use and I didn't have to bring multiple pairs of everything!
@DanPKing16
@DanPKing16 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a good call on the workout clothes. I tried the packing folders and felt like they took up a little too much room. I do think I tend to overpack, though, so maybe that’s the reason.
@master1387
@master1387 Жыл бұрын
I also do the same thing with the gym clothes, but that packing folder is just alittle too bulky.
@TheydyGodiva
@TheydyGodiva Жыл бұрын
I like the packing tips. However, in my experience as flight crew, I've found it easier for me to just dedicate a set of clothes that I keep in my bag for all my trips. They're my traveling clothes. I keep those clothes in the bag and only take them out to wash them, and then put them back in after I do laundry.
@DanPKing16

That’s a great idea! I’ve somewhat gotten to that point as well. It’s make packing much easier.

Hey, awesome videos! I'm waiting in line for IOE right now for the CRJ. So as long as you don't overpack, there's no issue with getting this Aurora in a CRJ-200 bin? I'm a bit paranoid that I'll get out there and realize it doesn't fit, lol.
@DanPKing16
@DanPKing16 Жыл бұрын
It will definitely fit as long as you don't overpack it. A good standard rule for the Aurora is that as long as you don't have to expand it, you will be fine. Also, I would not put anything in the external pocket on the backside of the bag (typically people put laptops or binders in there) as it will not allow you to put it into the overhead compartment.You will quickly discover that you don't need much when you travel. If you are second-guessing bringing it, you probably don't need it. Good luck man! Excited for you!

@DanPKing16
@DanPKing16 2 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I can’t find the “model” of jacket that it is. I got it on sale at a Northface outlet, hence the odd color. If you are looking for this jacket because it folds into itself, any down Northface jacket will do that. It’s very comfortable and keeps you very warm, but, full disclosure, one of the pocket zippers already broke.

I’m not sure. I’ve never flown the EBM-195 and I’m not sure of the overhead dimensions. Know that my luggage works bag is 22” long and 10” tall, so that may help you determine if it will fit.

I carry two shirts and two pants. When you replace the undershirt every day, the actual white shirt doesn't really get smelly unless you really sweat a lot. The second shirt is mainly for stains on the road.

What is some advice of someone that is claustrophobic in the CRJ-700, I had a vacation planned got on the plane thankfully at the gate still and ended up having a panic attack on the aircraft, We were in row 10A and B.. Because of that we never made it to our vacation..
@DanPKing16

I'm sorry to hear that. Understand that I am absolutely not a therapist, but here are some recommendations from a pilot standpoint: 1) figure out which seat makes you feel more comfortable. I think the window seat gives me a "wider perspective" so I like to sit there as opposed to an aisle. 2) Arrive at the airport early and take your time. This can help relieve some of the anxiety. 3) Have someone practice breathing techniques with you. 4) Watch a movie or listen to music to help you relax. Not sure if that helps, but that's what comes to mind.
