It IS the difference in what is considered the conventional beautiful. The black eyeliner and highly artistic looks Naomi does on herself looks great on her because she AIMS to create contrast and make the makeup a focal point. She's not doing the makeup to look naturally prettier (in the no makeup makeup sense), she's creating a highly creative look that intends and demands attention on the art itself rather than her. What is recommended to her is to enhance her features naturally and subtly.

The color analysis seems really cool I wanna get it done! But tbh K beauty is very different compared to makeup from other areas. I'm not surprised they recommended no eyeshadow or black eyeliner and just use a shimmer since they like a more understated look compared to what Naomi normally wears. But that is just a matter of personal taste whether you like to wear bold or "natural" makeup looks!
@rosehipowl

The origin isn't in Korea! They have been done for a really long time elsewhere, too. I think colour analysis as it is now was created in America. It was really popular in the 80s, that's when the seasonal aspect was added, too (beyond just warm/cool, and going deeper into seasons like "deep autumn", "light summer" etc.). It's got really popular in SK lately, though, so that's why you see so much about it! I've been into Korean culture for a really long time now and been learning Korean for over a decade, and I remember when it suddenly started being a big thing (I think probably around 2017 was when it really started getting big?). All the big makeup companies started advertising their products for specific colour seasons and explaining how to tell what you are and people started offering services like these that celebrities were going to (and filming it, which made it more popular). Someone can correct me if I'm wrong on any of this, but I am fairly certain this is right. It's like how MBTI has got really popular in SK lately, too, and everyone knows exactly what they are and it's a topic of everyday conversation to say what you are/ask/guess other people's. MBTI is basically a pseudo-scientific horoscope, so it's not useful to know what you are, but I think it's slowly replacing the blood type culture there as that has been very obviously disproven and is becoming less popular. When I first got into Korean culture and learning Korean, there was always a lot of talk about blood types and it would be listed on idols' profiles as to what their blood type was. Now that's been almost entirely surpassed by MBTI. As someone who doesn't know their blood type and doesn't care about MBTI (it changes whenever I take it, like it does for most people lmao), it is definitely a bit of culture that I don't really interact with so I might be more wrong on this bit. edit: Korean age isn't 5 years more! It starts at 1 when you're born, instead of in the West when we start at 0. Traditionally, everyone would gain a year when it's Lunar New Year or Western New Year. The argument against it always goes that a baby born on the 31st December is 1 year old, and then the next day because it's the next year becomes 2, despite only being a day or two old. You are at max 2 years older than your Western age (called "full age" in Korean), but it's usually 1 year older. You just have to start from when you were born as 1 and then add another year for each New Year you've passed. So, I was born in 1994, which means I'm going to be 30 this year. My birthday hasn't passed yet as it's in July so I'm still 29 in Western age. In Korean age, I'm 31. It's my 30th year + 1 because you're not born at 0. Right now it's +2 years, but in a few months, it'll be just +1 year. Last year, the government actually stopped using the traditional Korean age for legal processes and now it's all done by Western age. But it's still popular culturally, and most people, even little kids, know both their ages. editedit: okay lemme tell you about this makeup haha The eyeliner is by a Japanese brand called Kissme from their Heroine Make line (that's the one that has all the manga inspired drawings on it). Their mascaras (Long & Curl, and Volume & Curl) are extremely well known for being impossible to remove, and I can attest to that. I used to use Long & Curl but I got fed up of spending so much time removing it while washing my face. It would last for days. They actually make their own remover just for that mascara! I don't know anything about the eyelashes, it's not a brand I recognise. The glitter is by 3CE, which is a well known brand, quite ~trendy~. They are owned (were owned?) by Stylenanda, which is a fashion brand. The lip product is by WakeMake, they are also quite popular. I think of eye products mostly when I think of them, but I'm not really into beauty stuff as much as I used to so maybe the perception of them has changed. Anyway, your final look is so good! It suits you so well! I've seen a lot of colour analysis videos where I actually disagree with the result, but I think she got you spot on. The difference between the bright colours and the pastel colours is actually really visible and you do look so much fresher in the lighter colours. I don't pay colour analysis a lot of mind, but maybe that's easy for me to say because all my favourite colours fall into my season anyway lmao I think it's nice to have some clothes that look good on you so long as you're not too strict with it, and I think you have the right attitude with that! I also cannot wait for the new song omg

I very much disagreed with them. On the side with her "worst" colors, look at how much darker her eyebrows look, and how much more pink her lips look. That's a good thing! The other side, she's what we would call "washed out". Your eyes go to the colors before you even see her face. She's a cool bright summer. She has pink undertones, blue eyes, low contrast, and looks most harmonious in bright colors. Definitely not light pastels or warm colors. Very very different from a Western style color analysis.

Professional hairdresser from sweden here: That whole "if you dont moisturize enough your face (to protect itself) will overproduce oils" actually kinda applies to hair too but in a different way. If you over-wash your hair you create this constant struggle for balance where the skin on your head overproduces oils to recover from the dryness and this in turn ends up making you feel like you get greasy really fast when in reality it's just your sebatious glands crying while overworking themselves trying to push out oils. The only way to recover from this is to give yourself a gradual but strict schedule where you increase the amount of days you dont wash your hair to restore that proper balance. For me personally it took me a solid 3 months to make my hair not get greasy by the end of the day after washing it in the morning, now I can go 4 days without washing my hair and it doesn't feel greasy or shiny the first 3 days.

I generally don't see a difference with these but I can really see it in your side by sides, I agree with everything you said, the brighter more intense colors seem to darken your face and accentuates shadows.

White was amazing. The comparison picture with strong vs soft colours however has different lighting? One is much more warm.. look at the white wall behind 😅

I agree the pastels soften your face more. It makes you look younger and more youthful. The harsh colors make you look not young. Also the brown eyliner was cute thats the color I use when i apply makeup and I feel it makes my green eyes stand out but I would love to have a skin analysis in korea I know my skin is rough.

Uh soo satisfying watching The Liner Expert effortlessly perfect a wing, in seconds! Naomi looked stunning shopping with her moisture pumped, fresh face 💕 , she definitely can go without her signature liner and still look gorgeous, if she chose to. Wasn’t expecting colour analysis to be so legit! Maybe thats why she’s so naturally drawn to pink and hello kitty too!? I would’ve freaking raided that skin care floor at Olive Young, Id fly there with an extra suitcase fr.

12:12 I know you think you see a big difference but what you are likely seeing most here are two things: 1. Looks like you have auto white balance on. Look at the wall behind you. The left is warm toned and the right is cool toned. So in the left your skin looks warmer because of white balance, not your clothes. It also looks like the brightness/contrast was up just a bit in the right photo, making it look harsher (probably the sensor trying to compensate for the darker colors). 2. Light bounces off of surfaces and reflects color. So that dark pink on the right has the color bouncing up onto your face, it’s not actually making your face “redder” or anything, other than bounced light, which is something to consider. That said, it seems like a fun experience, color theory is a very real science, I do think the pastels suit you well, and as long as you are happy in what you are wearing, go for it! :)

Some things I learned when I got my colours done: Getting your colours done is just a guide! You can wear whatever you want. It's just to show you which colours suit you best as a unique individual, and what brings out the most in your skin, hair, eyes, etc... You will see if you look at the comparison photos in the video for Naomi that the pastels/her colours brought out her eyes and really made them pop! You can wear any colour you want, even if it doesn't suit you! If you want to make it work for you, do it by styling it with colours that DO suit you! Say you don't suit emerald green but you have a favourite shirt that's green. Wear a scarf or cardigan that is a colour that suits you and goes with the shirt to put a break between your skin and the shirt. Most people tend to steer towards colours that suit them/are in their season (winter, summer, autumn, spring). This isn't the case for everyone, but for most people it is. Your general style, colours you like, etc... are all tied in together! Example: Winters can usually be more classic, edgy or dramatic in style (Think bold pattern or one pop of colour like a bright shirt and everything else black), Summers are more soft, romantic. This also isn't the case for everyone, but it's a general guide as most people are this way in some manner whether personality, clothing choice, lifestyle, etc. Either way, do what you want! You don't have to wear 'your colours' if you don't want to, there's nothing wrong with that. :) Hope this helps someone! Again, this is just what I learned when I got mine done (not in Korea)

In the process of watching. The part where she explains that oily skin needs to be hydrated in order to produce less oil. This is big true. As a teen I had such an oily skin I got a thick layer of it in the morning and I struggled to cleanse well, I needed like three to four washes. Then I got interested in skincare and got myself a hydrating serum and just this one product greatly reduced oiliness of my face. Now, couple of days ago I decided to try oiling my skin even further and bought rosehip oil and a steel guasha, and my skin feels even better now. So yeah, it is important to moisturise, it is oily does not equal hydrated.

You can still wear the other colors that aren’t recommended , just not near your face. I had colors analyzed and I wear black which isn’t my color but not near my face.
