As an American-I avoid New York City ❤I would never encourage a foreigner to visit-except maybe for a weekend. Then get out and see other parts of the country. I feel the same way about visiting LA, California. I know that lots of people like to visit these places when in the US-but I generally avoid them. Too much stress! Unnecessarily. @@arisyttt New York City is by far the most diverse, most inclusive, most creative, and my favorite city in the USA. I was born in California, and I have lived all over the US and abroad. There is no city like NYC and I am proud to say that I have lived here for more 23 years. Most visitors who have bad things to say about NYC, spend the vast majority of their time in Manhattan. Manhattan is such a small part of the city. In my view, there is no universal best place to visit. It depends on what you like. Also, I think your question should be "What city in the US is the best place to visit?" What is best for one person, is the worst for someone else. For example, I hate Los Angeles but many people love it. New York City is by far my favorite city in the United States. One thing I love about NYC is that you can certainly be overwhelmed and busy all the time, but you can also choose to have a far more laid backed life. That is certainly how live.

NYC Born and raised. I had to commute from the Bronx to Manhattan for high school every day. I was completely burnt out by graduation. Growing up there does something to you. Like everyone else who grew up there, you develop a hard shell with sort of deadened emotions. The exhaustion is real. People shouldn't have to live in a constant state of vigilance. It damages the soul and the nervous system. I finally was able to move north to the country and lived there for 14 years before finally being able to escape the northeast entirely. Best move ever.

Most people can grow accustomed to anything. I think you just weren't able to and that's fine, I agree it can be a lot. But vigilance just becomes 2nd nature after a while. But even stuff like the noise, I moved to the suburbs in Florida and could not sleep with the silence. I'm back now and maybe it is that break and you are right that I will get burnt out again but as of right now, I'm not trying to leave again. I left a few times because that's what I thought I needed but I'm older and wiser and I wanna build my future here. As for the shell, yeah, seeing homeless people constantly will do that. I like to give when I can but if I give to the first homeless I see, am I gonna give to the next one? Or the one after that? If I gave to all of them, I'd be the homeless one. So it becomes easy to ignore them and the drug users after a while.

It did not not take me that long to realize that NY is the biggest lie ever told to people. I was there just a week, it's a real concrete jungle.

I also took the train from the BX to Manhattan for high school school. The SAs were crazy, which is why I mean mug damn near every man I see. I never felt burnt out though about the fast pace or movement bc I didn't know anything else. BUT I went upstate every summer for camp, then I went to college down south and saw life could be different. Eventually, I moved to New Orleans bc it' reminds me of NYC, but with 6 months of summer, friendlier people, and a much better cost of living. But I wouldn't trade growing up in NYC for anything. I'd move back if not for those 3 things...and the rats, ewww... They weren't as bad when I lived there as they are now. .

The idea is to be cultivated in such an environment like NYC which develops and ready you for the world. Why New York is most sought after destination of parents in the states. The key is knowing when to spread our wings and fly. Most fortune 500'S give internships to students out of NYC schools. New York leads the way, with 13, given birth to the most US Supreme Court Justices over the past 221 years in America. Including the very first, John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the Court.

The part about NYC that we rarely talk about. A week before we sat down for our interview, I was actually admitted in to the psych ward due to a severe mental health breakdown that was caused by burnout and other issues. Thank you for your vulnerability and sharing this story.

What was not mentioned is NYC has 5 boroughs consisting of 51 Council districts throughout the five boroughs are each represented by an elected Council Member. All have a unique level of distinction like Abuja is to Lagos in Nigeria. It's insane to think one can visit NYC in 30-days without a well though-out plan to visit a different borough of NYC each day. To review NY state would require another 3-months at minimum. The small district in Brooklyn in the video was in Jamaica Town. New York City alone is so vast that many New Yorker living there have never visit other boroughs themselves. To some it like taking a week-end trip, a getaway vacation.

I always felt an urge to visit New York city from seeing it on TV throughout my life but when I finally got to visit it was honestly such a stressful and underwhelming experience. Dirty streets, dirty metro, drug addicts and homelessness everywhere, pressured for giving tips for literally everything etc. It's sadly not as romantic as we'd like it to be. I prefer to stay in Europe

Moved to NYC in 2021, absolutely loved the big city life idea until I tried building a community. It was extremely hard especially as someone working from home. Ended up moving to Seattle. It's not better but the nature all around helps a lot. Great video Tayo.

I left Seattle for Washington DC. I found people in Seattle cold! If you didn’t grow up or didn’t go to school there, people will just avoid you. The weather didn’t help either. PS: I’m not an outdoorsy / nature person so Seattle didn’t work for me.

It can be difficult traveling for work and being solo but I have learned as I have been out and about to build community for myself everywhere that I have gone. I get it. I was born and raised here. Honestly, things were notably less crazy back then than they are now. But I’m seeing that a lot of places I’ve been. New York has great energy but times are hard for people so they behave in ways they wouldn’t normally. Hope you give NYC another shot when life gets a little bit more sane 😄

Hi Tayo, I lived in NYC when I first moved to the US as a teenager. About less than a year, my entire immigrant (Guyanese) family moved to Schenectady NY (within the Capitol Region of NY). Now I call Schenectady my home. It is quiet, much cheaper than NYC and Guyanese immigrants like myself, built our own community. I love NYC, and visit to have fun, but I head back to the Capitol Region when I feel drained. There are fun things to do Upstate like, going to the beaches in Lake George, boat cruise, white water rafting, hiking in the state parks, wine tasting in the figure lakes. I would have love to suggest places for you to visit. I am happy you enjoyed NY and shared your experience. Continue sharing your stories.

Love your videos Tayo. I lived in NYC and just outside NYC most of my life (I’m London born). I would take long walks “ every once in a while” at the start of the day to experience the city before it gets super busy/super crowded. Never imagined I would love NYC so much however, as I got older, I permanently moved “just outside the city”. I work there so I get to enjoy it then go home.

7:15 - I spent much of my life living 15 minutes from the New York State border and have drived through the state on many occasions. Never did I know about this park you've shown us. It's beautiful. I appreciate all of your content but this one is the 1st one that I could actually relate to after living here in NYC for 16 years and visiting on my school breaks as a child. The southern states of America has more of a community feeling than here. (I grew up visiting Alabama my whole childhood because my grandparents came from that southern state). NYC bothers me because most people are more focused on their own lives and achievements, but as an entrepreneur I'm able to generate thousands for myself in this city full of opportunity. If you're going to live in a place like this "metropolis", then it would be better for you to have needed skills that can earn income for you regardless of a job hiring you, and you should link with other likeminded people to survive with or you will indeed feel lonely. Millions of people walk by you without saying anything to you because they do not know you. Anyway, thanks for sharing the real about this. Wish I knew you were coming and looking to talk with people here. You could have traveled the city with my partner and I as we move around the boroughs. I could have shown you more things about the city. Maybe one day huh? lol Hugs and love bro! :-)

lol let's also be fair, that "community feeling" of the south definitely doesn't apply to all skin colors and orientations. As a Floridian, there are literally spots scattered in the state where I don't want my parents visiting because of our Latino roots and spoken language-----which is something you really don't experience anywhere near as often in New York City where the cultures and languages blend together.

I am 68. When l was younger l loved going to cities. Now I have to have a reason to go otherwise l would much rather be in the country. I get much more of a kick seeing an old tree, hearing birds etc than seeing lots of concrete and millions of people. I think most people feel the same way as they age. Your constant travel and over stimulation is burning you out.

New York is more than just the city. So many small towns in the Empire State to see and visit. As a Canadian living close to Buffalo, New York it always amazes me the beautiful nature all around. Whether on the American side or Canadian side. Next time you come over try and see other parts of the state or visit Canada 🇨🇦.
