About Cole & Charisma:
Welcome to the official Roll with Cole & Charisma KZbin channel! Since the start of our relationship we've gotten a lot of questions about our experiences as not only an interracial couple, but an interabled one as well. On this channel you can catch us doing travel and adventure vlogs, challenges, our inclusion series, couple first times, music, and so much more! We started this vlog to bring people into our lives, to answer some questions about how we navigate the world, and hopefully raise awareness surrounding accessibility and dating in a wheelchair. You'll quickly see in our episodes that we're all about inclusion and keeping a great attitude no matter your circumstances, so if that's what you're into, you're in the right place!

My 11 year old grandson is autistic. While in a restaurant, a women walked by, back stepped and asked my son loudly, “What’s wrong with him?” My amazing son said, “Nothings wrong with him. He’s perfect. What’s wrong with you?” Some people are just complete and utter idiots.

I remember hearing your story on the news when we were stationed at Fort Eustis Virginia I now live in Florida and since moving here I’ve been called the n word and my children have been called monkeys and when in public with my disabled in-laws people automatically assume that I’m their caregiver because they’re white it’s seems racist like since I’m a black woman I must be the help

I am disabled & my husband is not. When we go out people stops us & shakes his hand, keeps telling him that he is brave. 😒When I'm in my wheelchair then they pat my head, I get super frustrated 😤 they talk like I'm slow or don't understand them. Well when I get annoyed or just had enough of being ignored, I just give them sass. There is nothing wrong with our brains, just part of our body that don't function 100%. Sending you ❤ from Cape Town SA

I’m 72 and I love following you 2! Growing up we had a family in our church, the dad broke his back as a teenager. He was married to a beautiful artist and teacher, the head of his family, owned a jewelry store, a lake house, drove his own boat, disciplined his boys and was a great man. I never thought of him as lacking in anyway because he was paralyzed and in a wheelchair. He also lived happily for over 80 years. Hugs from Texas

I am legally blind and it took me connecting with successful blind people to gain confidence in myself. I have been underpaid and even fired because of my disability which was actually a blessing in disguise because that’s how I learned to advocate for myself. I am now having to learn how to actually accept genuine help because I had to fight to gain independence. Interdependence is a challenge. I really enjoy that you share how you experience life because I get to see a different aspect of living with a physical disability. Disability has taught me humility that I wouldn’t have otherwise.

You both have helped me head to a healthy acceptance of my disability. I have heard so many rude things or people in a crowded area are busy running around and are not always observent of a person in a wheelchair. I have been ran in to and then they become angry because I inconvienienced them with my disability. There have also been amazing people who are quick to offer to get something off the grocery store shelf. I went from being fully ambulatory to semi-ambulatory. I lost my career and my favorite activities like dancing. I did not want to go out of the house, because I did not want to hear rude things. I have learned to enjoy knew things I am passionate about and I am still working towards goals...they just look different now. I am amazed by how strong and open you both are. God bless you both. I really needed to hear both the perspective of someone who was fully ambulatory to disabled. That has made me grow. I have appreciated hearing from the perspective of your beautiful wife. Care givers are my heroes! It helps me to understand my husband's perspective. Thank you again and keep on rolling! ❤

I was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. For many years of my life, I have been active in autism and disability rights and the fight against ableism. Sadly, though, when one thinks of activism, it isn’t very popular to think about autism rights or even disability rights as a whole, especially given the unfortunate state of race relations, women’s rights and LGBTQIA+ rights in America, among other things. The media outlets we rely on aren’t doing very much to support disabled and autistic people like myself. We’re still portrayed hurtfully in the films and television we consume on a regular basis, and the most we usually get in the news is a quick shout out to some cutesy video on KZbin. Most communities are making leaps and bounds in progress in terms of educating people on the struggles they face... but what about us? Where's the happy ending of the autistic or disabled individual? Where is the respectful, diverse and creative representation in our mainstream media? The endless social media posts and debates? The political discussions? It sickens and disappoints me to know that the stereotypes and struggles that we disabled and autistic people face, on top of the lack of support from our mainstream media, is going mostly unnoticed. Let me be clear: I am NOT in any way saying that one issue is more important than the others. However, it is important to understand that we as the autistic and disabled community are capable of just as much as any other community. My lifelong passion for autism and disability rights heavily inspired me to create my own cartoon characters in 2018 called The Puzzle Piece Kids (the name is NOT related to Autism Speaks or anything they stand for), centered on nine young kids who are best friends and have their own rock band together. One of the main characters, a 9-year-old boy named Robby Edmonds, is on the autism spectrum. Like myself, he has coping mechanisms he uses to deal with stress or fear, like patting his knees to a certain beat or humming a melody to himself. The reason for this is due to my strong desire to portray autism as I experienced it for years. I believe in the powerful capabilities of mainstream entertainment, and although I recognize that some people will inevitably remark that my work “isn’t for them,” I sincerely hope my characters can transcend its initial demographic and inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to embrace their differences, for they are what make us who we are as people. After all, wouldn’t it be great if people not only see the characters, but see themselves? I’m proud to be autistic, and I know I can use my disability to make the world a better place. We can do better. ❤️

Why do folks not understand common decency? I lost my left foot three years ago. Frankly, prior to that, I never really thought about folks with a disability. I actually knew no one personally with a disability. I've defiantly noticed a difference regarding attitudes and reactions from a feeling of that person(s) feeling uncomfortable to down right rudeness. I love that you made the choice to educate through these types of topics. These days I try my best to educate from a place of kindness hoping that someone will see that I am a person first and foremost. Thank you so much for talking about this topic and your channel! Cole and charisma thank you for making this video and shedding a huge light on ableism. I am a 43 year old man who has encountered people using the R word towards me in many situations in my life. I have always been taught as I was growing up to ignore those type of people and not say anything to them but as I have grown up I have taught myself to approach those who say something derogatory towards me but to do it in a positive way and make it a learning experience. I am not good with conflict and confrontation but those hard times that we go through in the disability community have made me a stronger person who now approaches conflict no matter what the situation. For the last 9 years I’ve been working in the developmental disabilities and it’s the most impactful job I’ve ever had. Once again thank you for making this video.

You are so loved, Charisma and Cole! With my mobility disability and my son's neurodiversity, we are familiar with ableism. One of the things I think about often is something Richard Simmons said years ago (paraphrasing, I think): When you are different, the world will let you know about it. The real irony is that no one is exactly like anyone else or can do all the things others can do. I'm going to paraphrase somebody else, one of my main heroes, Mister Rogers and note that everything comes from love or a lack of love. Again, we love you! ❤️🥰

A disabled person shouldn’t have to rely on family or friends to defend themselves against derogatory comments. You are gaslighting disabled people by telling they are the problem for lot having someone to help them. Disabled people Jane the right to go anywhere by themselves without being fearful of being verbally assaulted by disrespectful strangers.

I was about to enter a parking lot from the ramp at a shopping center in Erie, Pennsylvania. I am a quadriplegic in a power chair. As I entered the ramp a car pulled up and blocked the ramp. An older lady got out of the car so I backed up and let her exit and use her walker to come up the ramp. When she walked past me, she said “At least I’m not as bad off as you are.” That’s the worst I’ve had so far. But not being talked to is also very common.

You guys are wonderful! It is so important to speak up and create teachable moments, not only in front of that guys family/children but for the people around. My daughter who just turned 4 uses a wheelchair/walker/leg braces. The comments we get, the staring, whispering…its tough. I’m an introvert but I have had to learn to speak up. At just 3, my daughter was denied access to school, our hospital case worker called and recited the laws. All the sudden all sorts of preschools in our area had room for her. My daughter is cognitively typical and is starting to notice that she is different…she takes note of the comments and asks why people look at her. Nothing could have prepared me for that. Let me just say, I have been watching you guys for a long time, even before I had my daughter! Even so, I just never could have truly understood how challenging it is to navigate the world for her. Nothing could have prepared me for the hurt those comments generate.

I have seen ableism so much over the years. It is hard. The people I care for can speak for themselves, can do things for themselves. They want to have a life, period. Seeing them thrive & enjoy their live is a wonderful & hard. Thank you for your channel

I have learned so much from your channel and deeply appreciate the efforts that you both have undertaken to educate us on your shared experiences as a couple and as individuals. One of my most formative friendships was with a beautiful soul named Elizabeth who was born with a battery of disabilities…she taught me more about life and compassion than anyone in her all too short time here on earth. You, Charisma and Cole, are doing exactly that on your platforms. Sending you all love and much gratitude!

What a horrible experience you both went through, glad you said something to him, Cole! I use the word disabled to describe myself, I have a birth defect called Spina Bifida and am physically disabled! I hate when people use retard or handicapped to describe people with disabilities! People are always ableist toward me when I'm out in public and even some of my relatives I don't see very often. Everyone should treat people with disabilities as though they can do anything an able bodied person can do! It's really sad that there are people out there that don't! Thank you for your video, love them, spreading awareness!

I’ve been called the R word so many times in my public school days. I kind of have become unusually desensitized to it. Or at least, I thought I was unusually desensitized to the word. I am a young woman with high functioning, ADHD and autism. And I wasn’t into the party lifestyle. Most of my classmates were into that stuff, but not me! And then a few weeks ago in passing I heard somebody yelled the R word. I do not know who it was. But I all I can tell you was they were clearly in their late teens early 20s. And they were boys. But what gives me chills. Because not only do I get transported back to the four years of hell that was my high school. But I am shocked, also simultaneously as to why that word is so prevalently and nonchalantly used still to this day, without thinking twice about the meaning behind that word.

So proud of you 2 for making this video and well done for speaking up to the ignorant person but being mindful of the young children. That was appalling of him. So sorry it happened to you, such a lovely couple who have, and continue to work to make the disabled community better, and others aware to improve lives. Well done on all your achievements Cole and Charisma and may they continue. You are both amazing❤️🙏👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨. Love your videos and Thank you for sharing your lives.🙋🎊

My son is 25 with cp. genetic doctor was trying to help get him services when he was under 1 year old. His official diagnosis was severely mentally retarded. He isn't severe. He functions between 4-7. I am so happy times have changed. I much prefer cp or not neurotypical.

I appreciate that you two are so transparent with your experiences. You don't have to share so much of yourselves, but the fact that you do I'd encouraging. I am not currently faced with the ableism issues Cole deals with, but as a Black Latina, I can relate to some of what Charisma endures. You are role models for me to continue owning my agency, not apologizing for being a positive, hopeful person, and it gives me hope in people around me. I hope more of us give you your due praise and encouragement more than the detractors.

I am so freaking mad, way down here in South Louisiana!! I absolutely DESPISE the "R" word! My late husband was seriously visually impaired & he was called that all thru his school years. I literally demanded that our friends & family remove that word from their vocabulary! Well, he showed them, and he went on to get his Bachelor's degree in Journalism!! Sadly a series of strokes prevented him from using that degree. I took care of & advocated for him till the day God called him home in 2020. I applaud you both for standing up to that bully & for graciously calling him out. I love your channel & the 3 of you!! (Can't exclude Miss Sophie 🐾)

You guys are my favorite yiutube when I’m watching it. I used to work with mentally challenged adults for 7 1/2 yrs, and I was very protective of them. My children and all who knew me knew that the R word was not a word I tolerated. Disabilities come in many forms. I’m disabled due to a stroke, but I’m also very functional. So I’m baffled 😮 at what that father/husband said and I feel sorry for his children who has such an insensitive person as a father. I love you guys and you have really inspired me. Keep up the great work ❤️❤️❤️

Since you both mentioned it in your last video, I have been waiting to hear what you experienced. Well Cole and Charisma, I believe you handled it really well. There are times things need to be addressed and this was one of them. No need to carry it give it back to the source and let it go! Remarks such as that needs to be dealt with in the most reasonable and mature way…….which you did! Good on you both for bringing it to our attention. I so love your channel (by the way I’m over 60, you’ll be surprised at the ages of your followers) and not from the US between the Caribbean & UK and have followed you from the beginning. Thank you for explaining the euphemisms because I have a disabled child who is in a wheelchair (born with cerebral palsy), and I was told to use the differently abled euphemism during college. It led me to feel like I am harming him when saying he is disabled. But, heck, he is disabled and he does not mind.

As a disabled person and parent to a disabled child I got you my advice: never ever listen to outsiders when it comes to your family choices regarding disability. Never listen to an able person who forces people to do or say things they want. In my family we say “person with autism” and I will not disrespect my own family members who have autism by saying autistic just because outsiders think is more PG. Always follow your instincts or what your disabled family members ask you to do…but never listen to strangers who don’t know your family needs.

Well you really can’t tell people nothing, just bcuz they aren’t happy they have to find someone else to make miserable, we all are disabled in our own way from wearing glasses, some people can’t be in the sun to long, some people have allergies, you don’t have to be in a wheelchair to be disabled. So what you do is go on and live your life and do you and keep yourself happy. Just keep Rolling On 💃🏽💪🏾❤️❤️❤️❤️

What's even crazier to me is that this was an adult with (presumably) a wife and kids. You both handled that with so much more than anything that a...violent interaction would've caused.
