Without a doubt my dumbest breakup was when, in the middle of our Valentine's Day celebration, my boyfriend gave me something that, in my opinion, was so girlish that it made me feel offended. It made me feel like he was saying that I was the woman in our relationship, that there must be one, a stereotype that I have never liked regarding gay relationships. In short, we argued, I told him that he was a jerk and that if he wanted to be with a damn woman so much (no offense, it was just a way of saying it at the time), he could go and find one, because I was not for his shit. Then I got up and went home. Once I calmed down, I realized that I had just abandoned a boy who all he wanted was to give me a heart-shaped locket with a photo of us. I felt so stupid that of course I went to see him. The only good thing is that we were able to fix things and now we are still together. Obviously, he doesn't miss an opportunity to tell people the story of the day I stupidly abandoned him out of pride and ended up coming back with my tail between my legs. I'm not as psychologically screwed up now as I was at the time, though. I had trouble accepting myself back then.
@starixsh76663 жыл бұрын
Okay, I could totally understand that. It’s a common stereotype so I can see why you would get mad. I had a phase once were I refused anything slightly feminine because I hated feminine stereotypes. It’s understandable. Glad you two are still together!

Yeah. Now I’m a 20 year old who is close to becoming “middle aged” and I never picked up any ways to ask someone out because I was never allowed to date back then. And you know why that sucks? Because guys don’t get asked out. It’s supposed to be the other way around. I just never learned how to initiate that relationship. I learned every other basic feature of being a decent human being though. But even I would never have done this during middle school.

Relationships are hard and for young teenagers they rarely last for a long time. However, there's always exceptions in the rules, right? Like my little sister. She started dating this one boy when she was about 16-17 and they are now married and have 2 little girls. They have been together 12 years now if I remember correctly (my memory and sense of time sucks lol), married for 2-3 years, and that is a very long time, especially since they started dating in such a young age. Well, not that young, but still pretty young. I am so happy for my sister and also very proud of them both, for sticking together through thick and thin this long. I really hope they will stay together always. So.. even though teenage romances don't always last and are more of a learning ground (although I agree that pre-teens and teenagers shouldn't look for relationships and enter the world of love and heartbreak until they are.. not teens anymore), there are still some who are able to really find the love of their life and stay with them.

Almost 20, never been in an actual relationship . . . but I can relate to this. Two months ago, I cut myself out of the closest thing I had to a relationship. It was hard. He ghosted me for a year and it was really toxic for my mental health, which was already unstable. After confronting the situation, we left on a mutual understanding, but I was left heartbroken. For anyone reading this, everything Alex says is true. If you distance yourself from the person and work on yourself, that alone are two of the best ways to get over the person you really liked or loved. I did all that and I've felt so much better about myself. Probably the best I've ever felt about myself. I began to love myself more, not view myself so harshly in the mirror, began to love the things I'm good at again, and even got into new things that have changed me for the better. Even my art style got better afterwords and I felt . . . lighter. Like there was a weight on my shoulders that I didn't even know was there and it just fell off. Leaving love hurts. I get that as much as anyone. Heck, I still feel terrible about it every once in a while because I'm still grieving and still trying to improve myself for when I meet that special someone. However, when you step back for a while and feel better about yourself without that person than when you were with them, you know that it was rather (a) not the best relationship or (b) just not the right time. I agree. You shouldn't date so early in life. Heck, I didn't even date in high school. (I mean, not by choice . . . but still.) I think a better piece of advice is to not rush into things. Don't throw yourself headfirst into dating and don't be quick to give your heart away to someone. Take your time. There's someone special out there waiting for you too, wondering where you are. You want to be the best version of yourself for that person, so just try to work on yourself and everything will fall into place when it's supposed to.

When you’re friends say, “it is what it is” or “they got over it” they didn’t. They are just downplaying it. Break ups is kinda like grief. You push it the back of your head and try to cope with it by going out with their friends or doing something so they don’t have to focus about it. You are a type of person who can be sad and open about it. You’re friends might not be the same. There’s no way to get over a break up. You just gotta give yourself time until you’re ready.
@seamie66444 жыл бұрын
IT IS WUT IT ISSS But yeah, I totally agree. People telling you to just forget a breakup happened are just dumb. It doesn't just go away on its own. It takes time to learn to live with it and move on from it. It's really easy for people to say that thay have moved on from a bad relationship per se, but they totally skipped on HOW it happened, countless minutes and hours of struggling against its grasp at first. That's why it's important to have friends who can actually sit down and listen to you crying about it for hours, and it's a blessing of the world if you can ever find one
@TheJulietxo4 жыл бұрын

@Muhammed Eniodunmo don’t know if you’re saying I’m projecting. But I’m just saying sometimes your friends don’t want to put their business out their on what they are struggling with hence the “it is what it is” I’m not saying I do this I’m simply putting things in a different perspective. People are different and her friend probably did get over it. But this is just a different point of view lol

I am a senior in high school last year I had just accepted I wasn't going to date in high school. No one had ever asked me out and there had never been anyone I felt like asking out. I figured out recently I'm demisexual which was probably part of it. I had just accepted it and was chill with being single but at the same time disappointed until one day this rather kind acquaintance/friend of mine asked me out and I accepted. (I actually didn't initially realize he was asking me out but I kinda figured it out but I wasn't sure because I didn't want to be heteronormative, it's a whole other silly story.) We really hit it off and we've become a couple and have been together for 8 months now. I never thought I'd date in high school. I thought it was too late for me but I actually found a solid relationship. I was never the type of person who was just going to date for the sake of dating, and honestly most of the people in my high school were petty and kind of immature in a way. They were passive agressive, mean, talk shit about you behind your back type of people and I was just going to wait until college when there were hopefully going to be more mature kinder like minded people. That was the plan until I actually stumbled upon a lasting relationship that to me seems like more than just the typical high school relationship. I don't know why I'm blabbing on about this when it is probably not all that relevant. The point was I almost did that, I almost didn't have any high school relationships and I prepared for that but life surprised me. I don't know what the moral of this story bus or whatever I'm just happy and can't help sharing.
@madisonm.45354 жыл бұрын
@@elliesim9383 I felt the same way until I learned a similar lesson. I am in high school (senior) and last year I felt very similar, I never felt like I fit in and felt like no one would ever be interested in me. I thought about dating for the sake of dating but didn't like the idea and no one peeked my interest. I eventually just accepted that I probably won't date in high school and figured there is no point in rushing it. I finally felt pretty satisfied in that. Then midway through junior year I was asked out (I thought no one was interested in me at all so I was very surprised) and we really connected and we've been together for 8 months through the pandemic and all. You never know. Maybe you won't date anyone in high school, that's a pretty solid option and a good place to be, or maybe you'll be surprised like me.
