As a person who has had glasses since kindergarten and gone to the eye doctor regularly, I have never thought about the implication that having your eyes dilated is weird.
@PsychoStreak4 жыл бұрын
Apparently not all eye doctors do it. The one our family went to for years always did it, but once I started going to others, some did, some didn't. I do know they don't do it if you drove yourself there and have to drive home, or go back to work, which makes sense.
@PsychoStreak4 жыл бұрын
I've considered it, but the whole being awake thing is just. no. I only recently found out that not everyone sees the streaky halos at night. It was also a "wait, what?!?!" moment for me. Please do keep us updated on how your eyes feel as time goes on. Very curious about this.

Same here, i've seen those weird spiky light halos my entire life so i thought everyone saw them, but apparently not.
@LoreCatan4 жыл бұрын
can you explain what you mean by that? Both my eyes are -4.0 and I've never seen anything like that. Do you mean like, looking at the moon? Even then, it's not streaky to me, it's very round.
@tux_duh4 жыл бұрын
I think it's super rare to not see them or something bc I too have always seen them lol
@PsychoStreak4 жыл бұрын
@@LoreCatan At night, say looking at streetlights or more often headlights, instead of just the light and maybe a less-bright ring around it, what I see is a ring of streaks. With white light, sometimes the streaks are sort of rainbow. Red tail lights are more vertical. Apparently it's more prominent for those with astigmatism, and not so much your prescription. The downside is oncoming headlights and bright tail lights are SUPER annoying, but polarized lenses help a bit. The upside is that xmas/holiday lights generally look super twinkly and nice.

That can be a symptom of astigmatism. My Lasik actually helped get rid of that temporarily. (12 years) it's started to come back but now I have glasses that are specifically for night driving. The glasses keep me from seeing multiple letters on signs, and the streaky halos are toned down.

I can relate to the eye pain. I once swam in a pool that I didn't know had just had chlorine dumped into it a few minutes before. I swam under water with my eyes open. Within two minutes my eyes turned as red as a stop sign. I was a sophomore in highschool then, and that was my first period class and home room. So I spent the entire day in the nurses office. I kept running out to the hallway and dousing my open eyes on the stream from the water fountain. I could only open them to flush them that way because they burned so badly and they were so dilated that the light from opening them was off the charts painful. I'll keep my glasses thank you! But you look great. Love the hair dear.

Ooh. This was super interesting to hear your experience! I had it done 14 years ago. Technology has changed a bit since then, but a lot of it is the same. I was given Valium and was told to take it an hour before my appointment, and I needed a person to drive me to/from the appointment. Then they gave me the drops, and I was in a waiting area until that kicked in, then went to the room with the machine. It was 21seconds for one eye and 22 seconds5 for the other. They did tell me I might need new glasses 10 years down the line because of age. Immediate side effects: My eyes were itchy the first 2 days I was *extremely* light-sensitive for a week (I wore sunglasses to class cause even the fluorescent lights were too bright) Long-term: I do have dry eye syndrome, but it's fairly well controlled now that I know the biggest symptoms and remedies. If you (or anyone reading this) has it, one of the side effects besides dryness is excessive tears/crying/watering eyes for seemingly no reason. Which freaking hurts! The first time it happened I was so scared something horrible had happened. But no, just another of my symptoms for dry eyes! 🙄😅 The best thing to do to prevent that is staying hydrated! It's super important that your body gets enough water. Protect your eyes from wind/fans- including AC and heat in the car by turning vents away and wearing sunglasses on days it bothers you. If you wear mascara, use a lash conditioner and don't get the mascara too close to your eyes (I had to quit wearing it altogether). Use a warm eye mask compress at night, most eye doctors can recommend one, some of them sell them. Then lubricating drops for day/ointment for night can be bought in the pharmacy. I occasionally have to do all these steps, but if I keep up with steps 1 and 2, thats usually all I need. For brightness, I still wear sunglasses and sometimes even layer and wear 2 pairs of sunglasses on super sunny days, but indoor light no longer bothers me. Two years ago (12 years post-op) I did have to go and get new glasses. They are specifically to help with my night driving astigmatism which started to come back (it's no worse than before the surgery) I think my symptoms were very mild but also fairly common. I still consider that surgery the best money I ever spent. 😁

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have wondered if I qualify for laser eye surgery, but I also have fears of it going wrong. After what you described, it sounds freaky, even if it goes right! Slicing the eyes... *Shudder!* My vision has gotten worse as I've aged, and I've suffered from dry eyes since I was a kid. I don't know if that automatically disqualifies me, and I definitely don't want it worse. It annoys me almost constantly as it is. Let us know how your sight is in three and six months, too, please, besides a year.

I somehow didn't realize they peeled back part of the eye skin or whatever and am now even more scared of getting laser eye surgery. I'm super happy it worked for you though. On the subject of the pandemic, I'm big mad because my work shut down for the last two weeks but I'm going back on Monday even though, if anything, the world is more dangerous now than it was when we were all sent home. And I have been very bad at truly self-isolating because I have an eight month old collie puppy who needs exercise and I don't have a fenced in yard so we've been taking one big walk a day (avoiding people all the way, obviously) and then going to an empty field at night to play some fetch.

I just remember her being driven home, and still being asleep afterward for the next 2 or 3 hours. It's so cool that it took like 13 seconds to actually 'fix' your eyes! (compared to the one or two hour-long surgery and then pain afterward my sister had to deal with) How is your lovely Gecko doing? :3
