They said it best when they said she sing like she has a “tear in her voice”. Each word dripping with feeling&emotion. Pain and euphoria wrapped into one. Forever our sophisticated lady.

I heard Terri Klausner sing in Duke Ellington's 'Sophisticated Ladied' in Los Angeles at the Shubert Theatre in 1982. Her voice brought me out of my chair, a truly wonderful visceral experience!

@buddyjb5 You are mistaken. She sings throughout the world and has done 2 long-running Broadway shows in the past several years (remember, these performers do 8 shows a week often for years). She performs in concert regularly throughout the US and Europe, performs regularly at the top jazz clubs in NY and London, appeared in concert at Carnegie Hall, & won an Obie. This is the top in the genres of music she does. It's a different world from the one to which you appear accustomed.

She really should’ve pursued theatre more. She was a natural. Especially, after reading Strength of a Woman: the Phyllis Hyman Story. It explains that she had no prior experience and was sort of the odd ball amongst her cast mates. She didn’t even know what stage left meant at first. But watch her perform, you can’t even tell.

Excuse my being technical but even though an indigo moon would be wild to see, Ellington titled the song Mood Indigo. Beautiful song and fantastic interpretation of it here. They are both great so thanks for uploading it. What a voice Phyllis had, wow!! (Maybe you could fix the typo sometime).

@buddyjb5 Oh Buddy, pay attention.I didn't say Reuben outsold Clay.The point is these guys were big finishers on AI and still sell today despite their looks. The majority of today's stars who are there because of their looks, will not even be thought about as soon as their looks are gone.But people with talent are still singing even after 60 to full capacity crowds (Streisand, Patti LaBelle, Tina Turner, etc). Susan Boyle finished 2009 as No1 on Billboard 100 despite her looks.

@buddyjb5 It's not about fairness, it's about relevance. Comments like this are why producers keep giving us "artists" who can't sing but are eye candy. Please don't insult artists and women with comments about looks and please don't contribute to bringing more terrible singers into the world because they're "hot".

Here is why I "HATE" this performance. For some reason, i was thinking about the song Mood Indigo, and then I was thinking about how I Phyllis Hymns voice would match that song perfectly, so i thought, out of all the jazz songs she must have sung it. I finally found this video with her name and that song but someone else is singing it😢
@halaluani14 жыл бұрын
@buddyjb5 Hot singers don't sell for long. But good singers will sell for 40+ years. I'm a great singer -and I'm not hot or young. While I'm not a superstar, I've made a very good living from music. But you see, I sing for people who know music, not the general public. Jazz lovers would never choose a singer by her or his beauty. They know & appreciate music too much for that. I still disagree with you. Reuben Studdard won American Idol. Was he chosen because of his looks? Obviously not.
@halaluani14 жыл бұрын
@buddyjb5 You're out of touch. Clay sells very well. But Reuben does, too, on the R&B charts. Bottom line -- yes, talent WILL prevail.
@tianrichards4 жыл бұрын
The other lady just ruined it for me. She could have kept alllll that and just let it be Phyllis’. No need to even try and follow it.
@halaluani14 жыл бұрын
@buddyjb5 BTW, the other singer here is highly successful both in jazz, on Broadway and as a cabaret singer. She is not attractive. Your theory seems to have some holes in it..
