Phyllis never looked more regal, she was the last of her kind, it's almost too sad to know that she ended an era, of a certain class of women in music. For Phyllis's generation, and those of us who were blessed to witness her talents in person, know that she represented a bar of excellence that can't be easily reached. May you rest, my enchanting songbird...🙏

i love the way she sings with such truth, honesty, and without the egotism so many singers revel in these days. She leaves the saxophonist space to express himself without having to battle extraordinary vocal acrobatics... something the likes of Whitney wouldnt have been able to do. Ego kills musical honesty.

This alone, makes youtube worth the listen. Grover is an all time favorite and I saw him live and up close in the ATL (1996). A true bucket list listen. Phyllis? What can I say? Marvelous. I recall the passing of both as well as the tears shed. I was on an elliptical machine getting my burn and watching tv at the gym when his passing scrolled across the crawler. I stopped, picked up my towel and went home. No way could I make it another minute. His music helped a brother thru some tough times...East River Drive was my cut when driving thru NY late at night after dropping off my daughter at the end of a summer and driving back to the south. It helped ease some pain and fears. That is music at its apex. I encourage all to LISTEN to music as oppeased to hearing it. There is a huge difference. Enjoy the gift that is great music.
