For anyone finding this video now I thought I would share another update almost two years on. Overall I have had an increidble experience. In terms of diet I slowly transitioned into eating more fats again and for the most part I can eat a standard diet. I find I can get increidbly bloated if I eat a lot foods with high fat content in one go (e.g. large amounts of avocado or a large burger), but that settles the next day. The only change I made long term was now only using a quarter of an avocado for avo toast instead of half, and I haven't had to cut out entire foods. I also haven't experienced any issues with my weight as a result, however I again am more mindful about not having too much fat in my foods then I was before. I no longer experience pain and my scars are very minimal. Overall my life after removing my gallbladder is amazing, I no longer have the pain I did before, and live my life almost exactly like I did before I had the gallstones. I hope this can help or give peace of mind to anyone who needs to have or is considering the surgury, and best of luck

Holly Nice to.know. I'm getting mine out on 2 weeks. I did ask the doctor if I needed to do this as the pain is now gone, she said better to remove it as it might happen again. So it needs to be removed. I'm nervous as others who've had it done tell me there're lots of changes to life😢. Well I'll have to wait and see But does seem to have settled down now as in no pain but eating some foods seem difficult as I bloat. Thank you very much for this post. BTW how long ago did you have yours removed and was it an emergency? Karine

You just helped me understand why every time I eat avocados (with all their so-called fiber and cholesterol-lowering benefits), I immediately become bloated, gaseous and nauseous to the point of vomiting. Avocados contain 14.7 grams of fat, which I didn't know! My gallbladder was removed January 16, 1991 at my age of 34 while I was in the midst of gastroparesis. After learning January 15, 2013 that my gastroparesis had ceased during my last jejunostomy (August 11, 2003-August 1, 2005) and that my doctors had stuck me in a 28-year medical lie, I have been unable to eat anything without suffering severe intestinal bloat, gas, burping, constipation alternating with diarrhea and vomiting that has literally tied me to my home. On May 20, 2023, I suddenly realized that the cause of all my digestive distress is the organ I no longer have and that my surgeon stuck me in a second lie all those years ago when he told my mother I'd be okay after exploratory surgery and discovery of the diseased bladder gone in my body for 18 years (problem began at my age of 16) concluded with a laparascopic cholecystectomy. Now that I know I am producing no bile AND insufficient stomach acid, I won't eat avocados again. Well, here's the joke: On April 5, 2023, I bought Publications Int'l's _Avocado Recipes: Appetizers, Meals, Snacks, and More!_ from an ebay seller, along with nine other vegetable cookbooks. Today, I stare wistfully at _this_ one I'll not use!

Holly Nope. No medications were prescribed. Just that when I get that gastric pains to take a dose of Buscopan. Interestingly in the hospital, it was remarked how well I was coping after my surgery in getting in and out of my bed. Strangely this morning I'm suffering bad gastric attack. Buscopan not really helping either. So taken Losec. Let's see. I was contemplating not going ahead with my surgery but am glad I did do it. Don't want any further complications. How are you doing now Holly?

I had my gallbladder removed yesterday. I wasn't scared of having it removed I was more scared of not waking up after the anaesthesia. It's weird to say this coming from me a nurse who is used to seeing and caring people who had sedation and general anaesthesia. But I was not against having my gallbladder removed, I have a family history of having gallbladder problems. My mom had gallstones and she did not have it removed. She was having gallbladder pain and was taking a lot of pain medications which affected her liver and she had cancer and passed away 5 years ago. I said to myself, I wouldn't want the same thing happened to me that's why I decided to go for the surgery.

I also got my gallbladder taken out at 21. I got it taken out a week ago. After a year of having abdominal pain that no one could diagnosis I found out that my liver and my gallbladder were super inflamed due to stones blocking the ducts. After a night in the ER it was pretty certain I needed surgery. It was probably the most pain I’ve ever been in for the first 48 hours but after day 3 I had no pain at all!

My father had to have his gallbladder taken out when he was 59, due to turn 60 in November of 2019. It just seemed a quiet day in June, and my father gave me a text message saying "I had to take an ambulance ride to the hospital because I was having chest pains", which slightly concerned me. Then on the night of my 34th birthday (July 16, 2019) when I was having dinner and my birthday cake with my parents, my father got a phone call from his doctor in Niagara Falls (slowly I turned, step by step...), and during the phone call, he told the doctor that he had to get his gallbladder removed late next month. Thank God my father is still with us, and it's been almost five years since my father had his gallbladder taken out. He's now 64.

I've had nausea and bile and all that good stuff for a few years now, only recently(October 22) did I actually have to go to the hospital, pain got way too much with the gallstones, so I am now going to have my gallbladder removed, hopefully within the month, I don't have private health cover so public system it is for me, which I don't mind it's been good to me thus far. It was nice to hear an Aussies take on it, I've watched a few videos and stuff and it seems not many Aussies talking about it, anyway good to hear it all went well, makes me less nervous. I think, and this probably applies to a lot of things, many people will share their negative experiences but not many seem to share their positive ones, I guess that's why you saw so much negative talk about it.

@@jriverar1436 I ended up not having the surgery, it was deemed too high risk, I apparently have too many varices attached to my gallbladder to risk it as an elective surgery, so I guess I just have to suffer daily with nausea until it gets bad enough they have to take it out, sucks but I get it, just a pain in the arse to be honest.

@@dallasgrant I'm sorry to hear that. 😞 I just went to my pre follow up appointment that they schedule after the gallbladder is removed. The doctor said my gallbladder was bad the color had changed and that it was changing my cells which could cause cancer if not tumors if not removed and that thankfully since it was removed I don't have to worry about anything like that from happening. I honestly didn't even know that a gallbladder could do that, because I've experienced pain for four years and this time I was like I have to take it out . I really hope that some day you can have yours taken out so that you as well can be pain free and won't have to deal with anything bad due to the gallbladder. My prayers go out to you and wish you nothing but a positive outcome and healthy Life.🙏🏽🙂

@@jriverar1436 Thanks, yeah I hope I can get it out, so far I can only see it causing issues for me and as far as I know it doesn't do a whole lot when healthy either. I have an MRI every 6 months to look at l my liver because of my NAFLD, I get blood tests too to screen for anything bad happening including cancer markers, I too didn't know and organ could turn like that, kind of scary I guess to know that an organ could just decide to do harm to it's host one day. Glad it's all going well for you, I know what the pain is like, I know what the nausea most days is like, if you can stop that that's great, all the best.

These are done all the time laparoscopically or with the robot in the OR. It is a minor procedure compared to pre-robot or laparoscopic days. The incisions are less than an inch. The bloating comes from the insufflation in the abdomen. All normal; movement, and burping helps. Don't be fearful, people. :)

I just had mine removed at 17 a little over two days ago. I totally get it. For months I was told I had acid reflux or GERD but it was so frustrating because it felt like no one would listen to the fact that there was no pattern to my attacks-nothing food or lifestyle related. Completely random, and I have a family history of gallstones. But no-I was ‘too young’. I was rushed to the ER because of a particularly painful episode where I vomited a ton and I was given an ultrasound and I finally got the answer that I secretly knew was true in that I had gallstones and even though I didn’t have any obstructions it was incredibly inflamed. I had it removed in an urgent surgery the next day. (Thank god im still 17 because I was given priority as a pediatric case) I’m recovering at home now, trying to ignore the pain that the gas shifting in my shoulder is causing. I finally get to shower for the first time in almost a week tomorrow afternoon. There are less than three weeks left until I graduate high school and I just hope I don’t have to miss anything because of my recovery, but I’m glad that my surgery had to happen because it’s going to hopefully relieve my pain in the future. I hated my gallbladder and I’m glad it’s gone. Thanks for sharing your story :)

Glad to hear you are on the mend. GB surgery is so much better now when it has to be done Not to preach but please add fat back slowly into your diet esp at the beginning. The GB is simply a storage site for bile needed to aid in fat digestion but the liver will still deliver the bile as you need it. You have to pay attention to how you feel but you can still have fat but not a lot in one sitting. Simply a healthy diet like we all strive to follow.

Thank you, i just searched for a video as i finally got the letter for waiting time to have the surgery soon and being epileptic and in a induced coma not having the best experience with the medical field and also not reacting the best with sedative medications, i am terrified of the op but i hope it goes well. I know this video is 3 years old but Did you ever manage to eat avocado? As that's one of my favorite fruits or mangoes or mac and cheese? My fellow epileptic friends (we fo to a support group) also many of them had their gallbladder removed (some epilepsy meds put you higher risk of developing gallstones) and the stories their bodies never adjusted so I'm really worried because i did ask the surgeon (thid is through public systek as private sid well cause you had that "diahnosed" we cant give authorization you for an appointment and surgery with a specialist ) and i never hd the bedt tike as doctors in public system well said my epilepsy ws psychiatric for 11 years thud ended up in a coma (i been through a lot) medically neglected gaslighted you name it anyway, i do have a biomed degree so i asked wouldnt these dissolving medications be a good thing? Vs me having to wait for suegery and occupying a bed and me already terrified of hospital after all the horrible experiences i endured and i dont put them lightly when i say that so i am left with i only have this option of removing my gallbladder and not having option of doing privately or having medications that can dissolve the gallstones and i still have my gallbladder and it sucks in all honesty. 21 is very young to get a gallbladder out. Gallbladder cholecystitis (infection from stones or sludge in gallbladder / common bile duct area) is more common in females because of the hormones estrogen and progesterone which are more readily produced by women and produce stones. Laproscopic is the word. They'll often give you warfarin or something similar injections also, preferred to get those in the thigh than in the stomach area and it leaves bad bruising being a blood thinner. You can live fine without a gallbladder, definitely takes the body a while to adjust. You can eat whatever usually after a while, but bring fats in gradually as your body is trickling the bile salts into the small intestine more continuously without the gallbladder present.

glad you're ok, and I'm happy you made friends with that lady, it always sucks to see a friend or family member get hurt in fact my best friend just sprained his foot:( and it also isn't fun too see a youtuber you like get hurt either, I'm a big markaplier fan and I believe he broke his foot a couple months ago, but most of the time people get better from these things and I have no doubt in my mind that you and mark and my friend will get better in no time:) thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

last 2015 I was diagnosed with a gal stone also and I confined at the public hospital cos of the lack of money to used for hospital bills, surgery bills, and to buy the medicines prescribed for me. I was at the hospital for more than 1 week just to wait for the surgery schedule 😔 that was so hard here in the Philippines unlike in your country 🥺 until I can't wait for the operation date schedule and I decided to went home and sign for agreement with the hospital that in case something will happen to me. from 2015 til now I thank God cos I didn't feel the symptoms anymore til this month of July I suddenly feel the pain again and im so very worried maybe the gal stone are here again 🥺😔 I want to go to doctor to check but it's very sad cos even for our daily food sometimes im so uard to find. especially I have a mom who has a mild stroke at the age of 68, im single mom to a one child age of 10. maybe someone who can help me even just a small amount so that I can go to doctor to check for me, please someone help me 🙏🏼😔🥺

Yeah I’m on day 4 after surgery. It’s not as painful now but I’m moving slowly. It runs in my family unfortunately. I’m 42 and the pain started severely about 2 months ago to the point of tears. It would wear me out. Went to ER and they found out my gall bladder was so swollen and needed to be removed sooner than later. It was my first time under general anesthesia and I wasn’t scared. I was just ready to stop being in so much pain.

I have to get this surgery done and I’ve been terrified after reading horrible stories online, it’s good to hear your story and that all went well and you’re feeling better now that you got it done. Do you have any issues with diarrhea? That’s what I’m mostly scared for since so many people claimed they don’t dare to leave their house anymore because that issue and I don’t know if they’re just being overly dramatic or if it’s something that can actually happen?

I had mine today! All went just fine. I was like you, I almost backed out this morning, cried, it was miserable. My surgeon came in the hospital room to talk to me & basically, if it has to come out, there’s good reason for it. He was very patient & nice. I had same fear of anesthesia as I never had surgery before. Terrified! But, the anesthesiologist, nurses & my surgeon were amazing, couldn’t have asked for a better team. I got anti anxiety meds in my IV, I remember going into the operating room. They had music playing & I started singing & laughing. That’s all I remember until the nurse woke me up in recovery, no problem waking up. I was groggy for about an hour afterwards & now I just have soreness, like you did a bunch of push ups. But I had pain medicine in my IV so not too terrible. You do wear compression socks to avoid blood clots . I wasn’t hungry for actual food so I had a bunch of crackers & ginger ale & water. Sorry so long but I was all over KZbin doing the same thing before my surgery to try to calm down. It’s an awful feeling but you will be okay. I also have my faith in God & I prayed constantly, He was with me. Hope this helps you 👍❤

Hi and thanks for sharing ur story.❤ Down here I have my horrifying story that I'm struggeling with right now. I'm trying to find ppl that have had an open surgery to remove the gallbladder. The pain started thursday june 29, friday I was completely fine. Next following days i had pain again. After 3 ER visits I found out my gallbladder was inflamed and they said I had a huge stone. I had my surgery July 7. Bc I have had a huge surgery (around year 2013) removing my severly infected caecum that did burst, very complicated! They wasn't able to just do a laparoscopy this time, as they usually do. Instead they cut me open down my ribs (i haven't removed the staples yet but the info on the paper to these patients says the incision is gonna be around 8-15cm. They said they cut my abs in half.😭 After the 3,5h surgery I felt extreme nausea, i threw up a lot, and extreme pain. As I said i'm 5 days post-op. They sent me home the 2nd day after surgery. I was devastated bc I was feeling terrible with pain and nausea. I also live alone I said. Fortunately i have amazing friends and neighbours that's helping me out if I need. I'm able to do things on my own but it's a struggle to walk, especially longer distances. I'm not allowed to lift heavy things, also can't bc I have lost a lot of strength. Bc my back has to work twice as hard i'm often very tired and need to lie in bed. Not so much pain. Mostly discomfort and lack of energy. I have paracetamol x2, 3 times a day. I also have for extreme pain, but I avoid taking them as long as I don't have to. I also have Innohep injections avoid bloodclots. Still a bit scary to do that on my own but, I have 8 more shots to go.😮‍💨 I'm struggeling to eat. Last time I ate without struggeling, before I got sick, was June 27. My mom read on the internet and have experience told by grandma. My grandma can't eat a lot of fatty foods. The doctor said I'm able to eat without restrictions. Just try slowly, if u can't eat an apple, just try again after about a week or so. Another nurse said I should avoid food with a lot of fat. Internet/youtube says both of these things. I can't figure out what to do but I try to eat small portions bc I want the energy and I want to heal. For example, now: Breakfast and evening snack: I eat 1 hardbread (sort of of rye bread) with 3 slices of cucumber, butter and one small slice of cheese + 1 cup of tea. Dinner yesterday I think I ate way too much. I was feeling very good with a lot of apitite and energy. But I became so bloated, extreme nausea and pain on the side of my belly. I went to bed and woke up around 3-4h later. Tried to drink 3 very small glasses of sour milk. Slowly started to feel pain again further to the right in my lower back. It was now midnight and I went to bed again, slept until this 8 a clock this morning. To be able to fall asleep I'll take medicine that I also had before all this happened. Now it's around 2h since I drank a cup of tea and had the same kind of sandwich. I feel very tired and still a bit sore, I'm going to take a quick nap and then try to have a shower for the 2nd time since the surgery.
