@aussiebear22 My CUDA research box has four GTX 580 3GB oc'd, but warmer sounds like a grand idea to me, stave off the ice age we were told was about to hit 30 years ago. :D Back then the parallel scare was global cooling (thermohaline current shutdown in the Atlantic; the movie, "The Day After Tomorrow" was based on the general idea). Btw Penr0se, check out Soph's video on Bitchute, you should see the temp graph showing the dozens of models used by the IPCC vs. measured data; every single one of the models was wrong (gross overestimate). It doesn't matter anymore though, it's not about what's actually happening; global warming has become a huge industry and a means of politically pushing the public into certain directions via emotional panic, with the UN and national govts set to spend a hundred trillion on it. That's a hell of a lot of unfunded resource consumption all done in the name of preventing resource consumption. If you really think there isn't disortion/manipulation/supression of data, research blocking, etc., then you're smoking something. Check out the interviews Stefan Molyneux has had with relevant researchers. If people really cared about CO2 output, etc., then before anything else they would oppose state borrowing, national debt and private debt, the former being by far the largest sources of [unfunded] resource consumption and pollution worldwide. It's easy to point fingers at the US for this: www.usdebtclock.org/ but the UK and other nations are just as equivalently bad (hillarious how Germany switched back to fossil fuels after the ludicrous panic over Fukishima). In fact the UK per capita may be worse, credit card debt in the UK is particularly nasty (it was rolled back in the US somewhat after 2008, but not in the UK). Meanwhile, population movements via mass immigration to the West result in such people increasing their carbon footprint by an order of magnitude, while the social, cultural and criminal knock on effects are a whole other conversation. The UN is encouraging this, infact the UN pact being forced on nations will make it unlawful to criticise their policies aimed at promoting the movement of such persons to the West. Even China can't control the monetary resources it's spent on its huge road building programme throught Africa and Asia, hundreds of millions stolen, squandered, etc. The UN organising the spending of 100T on climate panic will be the biggest unnecessary consumption of resources in history. I was in academia for a decade, I saw first hand just how horrendous the money wasting could be. 100T of free stuff will be a staggering magnet for fraud, wastage and inefficiency, as it always is when the state pokes its nose into pretty much anything. I used to attend global warming conferences in the 1980s and early 90s, I remember back when the research was a lot more honest, when conference conclusions about clouds & ocean effects for example were, "We don't know, it's ruddy complicated." Nowadays though it's very different, a great deal of money and influence is tied up in the climate change industry, a lot of jobs are at stake, a lot of political power and influence, govt tie-ins with private corporations, election outcomes, etc. That's one thing Michael Moore had right, "fear and consume"; if you reeeally care about the environment, then stop spending money, stop buying stuff you don't need, but no govt would support that because the liquidity collapse and loss of tax intake would cause chaos. Strong economic turnover looks good for elections, even if the national debt sucks and future pensions are no longer viable. So here comes Christmas and New Year; presumably you're not going to buy anyone anything nor spend anything you wouldn't normally need? No unnecessary food or travel? Yet year after year what were once socially relevant spiritual occasions become ever more commercialised, Christmas has become so much now about spending money and stuffing your face that the BBC won't even use the word Christmas, their London station says, "happy holidays" instead, while TV adverts refer to things such as, "crimbo deals". Spend, spend, spend! But oh yeah, be afraid! And vote for the left/globalists. Penr0se, I know you meant well, but I decided I'd had enough of this climate change stuff when New Scientist published an article in which it claimed those who did not agree with "accepted wisdom" should be treated as mentally ill and medicated. I'd been a subscriber to the mag for 25 years but that, plus their insane 8-page pro-migrant propaganda special, was the last straw, I cancelled my subscription. When "science" leads to the promotion of violence upon the individual, enforced by the power of the state, then it's gone too far. We've seen it before in 1930s Germany with eugenics. Slap a label on a person, treat them as the state so desires. Back then it was, "subhuman"; today it is, "climate change denier", but a label is not an argument. Whatever good intentions there once were with this area of research, today it's far more about state power, money, political manipulation of the masses, etc. There are thousands of local serious environmental problems around the world which could be dealt with instead, but these are ignored. There's no money or power to be had from clearing up an industrial mess in some rural part of Africa or Asia. Like I said, ask yourself how any of this can be about preventing resource consumption if the UN wants to spend 100 trillion on it, which is unfunded resource consumption. If you want to curtail CO2 output, then oppose national debt, state borrowing & unfunded resource consumption, and private debt - these dwarf the pollution caused by ordinary industry, but then much of the latter is addicted to the teat of state spending anyway. Have another look at that US debt clock. And btw, Obama increased the national debt by more than all previous presidents combined. Grud knows why he won a Nobel, especially given he signed off on a further 1 trillion of spending on nuke research.

I'm glad to hear you manage to get your GTX 480 back from Jeff, along with a bit of your money. I've helped people like Co-workers or people I know with their computer or given advice. I am by way no computer expert and I do state to everyone, "I'm no expert, but I'll be happy to take a look for you." I loaned a friend of mine who can't afford PC parts at the moment a GTX 560ti I had for probably 3 years, card still works. I owned this card since 2011 and it's still kicking. Though he encounter a few game that it would flat out would run. So I swapped him the GTX 560ti for a GTX 750ti. If he can eventually get some money put together I have a GTX 960 I'd be willing to sell him. I'd loan it to him, but even I have limits on what I feel comfortable releasing as a loan. He's to paranoid on opening and doing any sort of work on his computer, even dusting it is something he refuses to do. So anytime he needs help with his computer he shoots me a message and asks, "Can you take a look at my computer for me and tell me if this is a problem?" I've been to busy as of late, but I want to put one of my older computer up for sale. The I5-2500k paired with an RX570 is still a decent computer to handle task today. The CPU has never been overclocked either. Along with 16gb of Corsair ram it still runs pretty much anything I throw at it. I never felt comfortable overclocking anything, I'm fine with assembling a computer, but I always worry I might do something to brick the computer. I know for the most part you should be able to go back into the bios and revert the changes, but with how my luck goes sometimes I expect the worst. So even I have limits of what I feel comfortable with when I work on my own or other peoples computers. If I feel it's beyond my own ability to fix I have my go to computer repair centers I recommend them to take their computer too.

@freedustin5 жыл бұрын
Spam97 that's because the people who fail don't talk about it.
@jakegarrett81095 жыл бұрын
Spam97 the person with reballing is incompetent then, it’s like $4 for a stencil for the GPU (it’s a grid/pattern for the particular chip, you pour the balls on it and shake a little and viola they are all perfectly lined up, slight misalignment is fine as they will naturally suck into the old/tinned solder pads), and then you heat it with a controlled temperature for a specified amount of time and check the temp just like a cooking/turkey thermometer (I find cooking more difficult than solder repairs, I may be physically shaky but SMD components the size of a grain of sand are possible with good sharp tweezers and lots of patience, lol, that’s a good skill to have even without computer interest, my stupid electric blanket had an auto-turn off every 3 hours so you never had a good nights sleep turning it back on like 3 times a night trying to get to sleep and then end up freezing, and that’s one where a resistor the size of a grain of salt needed to have modified/removed). I’m not a pro, but it helps to be able to mod cards. As an example most RX400 series don’t have real voltage control on most of the cards(software has a dummy slider), you can’t BIOS mod it either because the hardware has no electrical component for software control for that particular power rail, but you can sure mod the voltage feedback sense pin! Mine is running just fine with a potentiometer on the side so you can manually crank up the voltage, and it will obviously allow as high as I want (1.9 to 2v Vmem for LN2 benching), good skill to have, so have some fun!

Its called re-flowing, that's the dodgy way to temp fix graphics cards. Re-balling is the proper and legitimate way to resolder a GPU to a graphics card/motherboard. Be careful and make sure what service you're getting if you ever go somewhere to get a repair like this. Ask to see some re-balling equipment. Proper kit is not cheap.
@eduardoBR19915 жыл бұрын
Yep, proper re-bailling is not cheap. I know only a trustworthy shop that does that here in my country. It doesn't always work, because we don't have easy access to replacements like in Taiwan, and our government is very unhelpful when it comes to importing, so he has to resort on junkyard off other electronics that gave out, but might have a functional part.
@madmax20695 жыл бұрын
re-balling is just a more expensive temporary fix, because that is not whats wrong with the chip (and this was the case with the 360, and the PS3, and many GPUs in PC/Macs). the issue is that the die is losing connection with the substrate, and the heating process solders the connections between the two back into place (usually temporarily) and when heated up during normal use the connections start to disconnect again. this is why both re-flowing and re-balling seems to fix the issue, but in reality its not. the actual fix would be completely replacing the chip
@DD-jk3nf4 жыл бұрын
Just watched the last video when you gave the PC away for 'repair'. I was one that did think you should get the 480 back. Glad to see you did get it back and your cash :) Just an FYI, putting a board in an oven isn't reballing, that's something different all together. The putting a card in the oven does work, but only if the device needs reflowing. In industry, the actual device used to do this is strangely enough called, a 'Reflow Oven'.
@m.streicher82865 жыл бұрын
Good job not making it 10:00 with 2 ads.
@1701odin4 жыл бұрын
The whole "heat blasted" thing is actually accurate. It is possible for the solder balls on BGA chips to crack and make the connections faulty or intermittent and cause lockups, etc. You would really use a rework station with a heat gun to do the work, not an oven, but an oven may work. Reworking the solder balls will fix this type of failure.
@mr.not.so.perfect.6664 жыл бұрын
Yeah done what's called the "oven trick" myself a few times over the years, its a last resort fix for a dead card/motherboard that's out of warranty, one motherboard I did from a laptop went onto last 5 years more without issues a GPU I did ran for 3 years before it died "again" lol. Its a last resort though when the solder needs reballing as its become a dry joint after years of heating and cooling etc.

The process isn't called reballing it's called "reflow".
@AngDavies5 жыл бұрын
While you're correct that people call it that, it's also a somewhat misleading term - it implies the solder is being melted, which it can't be, because an oven doesn't get that work. Putting it in the oven/,taking a heat gun to it does for some reason "work", but it's a sawdust in the gearbox type deal, it's likely to last just long enough for the returns period to expire

@@King_Kong_Song whoever came up with that meme is amazing. But I absolutely came up empty when I tried to find the origin of "rehot CPU bro" any ideas?
@ThaSideWeed5 жыл бұрын
@@AngDavies Yep. Right you are. The reflow process is done via infrared ovens which have mostly nothing in common with conventional cooking ovens. The temperature at which solder melts ranges from 90C to 450C. Most common are 180-190C melting points in electronics. That's the general idea, but you're essentially taking a shot in the dark when lightly roasting your video card, lol. My intention was mainly to highlight that reballing as the name implies, invloves cleaning the solder off the BGA socket, repositioning fresh solder balls with extreme accuracy and applying the same IR method to reheat the balls and reseat the chip, process done with extremely expensive machinery and reballing stencils, as opposed to the reflow process which is what our shrill voiced mr. content creator was referring to :P

Small clarification - actuall reballing is a thing that exists and it is more than putting the GPU on the oven. It consumes some potentially expensive materials - solder paste ,stencils, or a reballing kit for the gfx card - and requires qualified labour to be successful. Calling the oven part reballing is a gross simplification, even though some people call it that way.

A proper fix is to use SnSb solder on high temperature devices as it will not develop microcracks. Research all the different compositions, you're looking at lead melt temps or SAC

just an fyi, Reballing is when you use a BGA airvac system to remove the BGA, clean all solder balls off with wick, then reball with flux and silver solder. Reflowing is when you use a Hot Air Pencil at 750*F and you circle your chips and poke them with a pick until you observe a wiggle, then let it cool back down. a big chip like the GPU cannot be done with a hot air pencil and will need the expensive BGA airvac to reflow the chip.
