Dude, you got hit with instant on rules 1. Have a rabbit or a car ahead if you are going to speed, rule 2. Radar detector rule 3. Waze or highway radar app. The most important rule of all is common sense and to think like a cop would.

No radar detector is fool proof been a radar detector since 1987 and had a lot of close calls over the years, Recently bought the Uniden R4. If you use K and Ka radar narrow you could miss a radar signal because the police radar isn't well tuned.. I don't use the Quiet ride road, yes it's convenient but it also has drawbacks. The Uniden R4 has better filtering and range than the R3.

I got an R4 and tested it agains my R1 and results were the same on 34.7 people say the R4 shines with 35.5 and I believe cause I was on a road trip and it picked up 35.5 about 7 miles out but what’s your thought u think it should of beat the R1 or maybe it’s just better on 35.5?

So here's the bottom line. He pulls you over just to check you out make sure nothing else was going on. Writing you a ticket for 58 in a 50 would have got thrown out in court because that's outside of the margin of error for a radar gun. He knew that but he was just fishing. In most States 10 mph or less over the speed limit is no points as well

Even with a radar detector, you should NEVER be the first vehicle up to bat. Always let some sucker without a radar detector be ahead of you about 1/4 mile in front, especially going into a blind curve or before cresting a hill.

Exactly. I have never had issues with my R7 not living up to its name. I haven't received a ticket with my R7 because I always let some other car get in front of me. They get pulled over and not me.

I have a 2010 HSV in Australia with an older Bosch cruise control and it actually brakes to reduce speeds when requested on to maintain speeds down hills. This superior unit got dropped on the next HSV range. I believe it's called active cruise control. Very handy

There's a Trooper between San Angelo and Abilene. He keeps his RADAR off until you're probably 300 ft +/- 100 ft or so away. Then he pops it on. If you're not eyes up, and you're speeding, your radar isn't going to save you. Had the same deal with my R4, which I love. I want an R8, but there's nothing you can do when they "Pop On" like that.

You're wrong though. If your detector is good enough it will catch those "instant on" (that's the correct terminology) from a long ways away before you're the one actually getting hit. The key to not getting caught here, is don't speed when you're the only car on the road. If there's someone ahead of you, you'll always pick it up beforehand.

@@LTzEz03z Firstly no one uses POP anymore. Thats outdated by a decade at this point. Its instant-on. Meaning the equipment is in standby and their finger is on the trigger. POP is not the same thing and not used. And No, the point was always keep a car in front of you even if its half a mile. He's going to get them first, and you'll pick up the hit with plenty of time to slow down. Otherwise, if you're the only vehicle on the road yes, the ideal method of absolute aversion would be to not speed

Yep, in every single town, and community, it goes from 75, to 60, to 45, to 30 in most populated areas! It's a fool proof system when the city budget gets low, they rely on that factor to rake in extra money for the "city"!

When speeds limits go down that abruptly, it's pretty much a speed trap. In Pasadena CA, there's a portion of Lake Ave where it's a 4 lane street that is usually 35-40 mph limit, it for no reason goes down to 25mph limit for like 2 blocks (no schools around there that I notice). For most of the day, two motorcycle cops hide inside a high rise parking lot just pulling people over for hours every day. Easy money for the city but pisses everyone off who doesn't know about that speed trap. Some radar detectors have all the info of the speed limits where ever it goes and you can set a speed limit warning but who knows if it is really accurate all the time. You cannot depend on a radar detector all the time, it just gives a little more information because the smart cops don't leave their radar on all the time.

Based on everything you said, the Uniden DID NOT FAIL YOU! It alerts you that there's a presents of a radar in the area. It's all up to you how you respond to that warning! Also, not ragging on you, but who uses the cruise control when you know your coming into a 'reduce speed" area? The radar detector is not gonna grow a hand and reach out and slap you to make you slow down! Thats all up to you how to redpond to the alert! When it alerts, slow down until you actually see the threat! Also it's not advisable to use your cruise control late at night for several reasons! If you set your cruise control on 75 mph, and you happen to doze off, your gonna be in a world of trouble! That also applies for rainy weather. You set the cruise control on wet pavement, and you start to hydroplane, the cruise isn't going to let off, and around you'll go!

I got a stalker DSR 2X police radar for testing detectors and such and when I have it out on the highway I’ve caught soooo many people with top of the line detectors… The stalker only takes 0.2 seconds to get a reading on average… So if they haven’t hit anyone else and they hit you first, your not gonna have time to slow down (unless they try to hit you too far and it didn’t get a reading). The way you catch people with detectors (even if they’re the best) is you visually estimate the speed and you only hit them if you estimated them as speeding. Cops in my area do this A LOT! But my V1 does a great job overall. I have implemented a Hawk eye though for when they’re doing their estimations… This way I can spot them from about a mile away and slow down before they can estimate me! However this won’t work at night though

I travel from NC to NY using cruise and going thru small towns in WV. I NEVER repeat NEVER use cruise control. They have signs posted "strickly enforced" and they MEAN it. So the lesson is always use your foot to go thru small towns.

That's interesting. I take the completely opposite approach. I always use cruise control when I'm in a reduced speed zone. Otherwise, my speed has a tendency to creep up because I'm used to whatever highway speed I was travelling at previously.

Small towns generate large amounts of revenue, sometimes a majority of their total revenue, from speeding tickets and traffic infractions. Pay extra attention to your speed and road signs when in small towns.

All those Texas towns rely on that for revenue and set speed zones that go down from highway speed to around 30Mph for about 2 miles then back again. Just never speed in those parts period. Last thing you want to have happen is to get stuck in a small town in some legal trouble.

I notice that the police try to see if i have a radar detector or not and then they go away cause i have the Uniden R3 but i always have it in complete dark Mode whit zero detector ligts i only listen to the sound of the detector. The detector lights are nice and Beautiful but you can get coughts by the police and somebody that want to steal you Beautiful police radar detector always put it in Dark Mode only. if you put on the light on you telling everyone that you have a detector somebody can break your car window and steal it and get pulled by the police more easily.

I hear ya. I've been driving 40 years and have never received a speeding ticket (or been in an accident). So I suppose I'm a relatively "safe" driver. Then again, I don't go over the speed limit (at least not on purpose). So I likely don't "need" an RD. But I use one. Why? Because not everything is black and white. I live in the sticks. In my state, unposted rural roads don't have a speed limit per se. The law states when on such roads one must drive at "safe and prudent" speeds (but not over 55mph). Well I have lots of experience. I know my vehicle dynamics and limits. So my definition of what is "safe" may not be the same as the local boys in blue. So I like to get alerts if there is a road tax collector up ahead.

I saw the video and I understood your message which is accurate but the title is clickbait as hell. You had the advance warning and said yourself you figured it was instant on off known as pop . Even a small detection of ka-ban is nothing but police patrol. The pop method is super effective against detectors but can be defeated by waze plus any sign of early detection especially when there's any form of vehicle up ahead of you in the officer tries to detect that vehicle. to me any town that I'm unfamiliar with + ka detection means immediate reduction of speed saved my driving record too many times doing this.
