Not only do you want to avoid that guy or anyone like him you want to be very careful when someone want to take you somewhere when you just arrived into a country especially if you're taking you in an hour Street somewhere because it's a good way to get mugged and seriously hurt if not worse unfortunately. But back to the restaurant that he took you to, I had a problem when he basically sat down to join you I kind of felt something was up right then. You never want to deal too much with people that walk up to you off the street you better off to go over to a taxi cab driver give him a few dollars and have him show you where to go and eat you don't have to drive you anywhere just show you where to go and eat, although in this case you have been better off to taking a taxi and have him drive you somewhere to a local place to eat if you saved a lot of money. You can't be too trusting of people that walk up to you all people that you start talking to you got to be very careful. Which I'm doing that you have to know this you've been to 70 different countries but you got to always not allow yourself to become to relax when dealing with people. You want to always keep your antennas High.

You cant blame the restaurant. That's the correct menu. Their salmon is 650 on google menu. The steak is 350maldivian he went for salmon knowing 650 without doing the math. It was his mistake. In Maldives everything is very expensive because they export every small things.

Go back to the restaurant again and when they get you a menu take a picture of all the prices of the things you ate. Than question them on the inflated prices on your Bill. Do not show them the original bill...take a photo copy as they might tear the original bill. The way the man entered the restaurant with so much confidence shows that he has done this to other tourists. The Restaurant is hand in glove with him in this Scam. The reality of MOST travelers is this...MOST PEOPLE ARE GOOD. One truly gets into a zone of receiving goodwill from others. When I travel, I rarely meet bad people!!! Marwa has good judgement. He also meets 10x people every hour! So being subject to bad human behavior from time to time is still an anomaly for him...less than 1% of 1%. Could you carry some snacks such as peanut or crackers to help you satisfy hunger until you have time to find a place that is affordable to eat. Also maybe learn enough of their language to ask where is an affordable restaurant. Also I would ask ahead of time how much will I expect to pay for this meal because my funds are limited. I am with you Marwa, I knew the type of restaurant you were initially looking for and when I seen the entrance going in, it certainly looked like a high priced "palace type" restaurant. And the prices were even higher than I imagined. You are right, it was just likr a New York style eatery with tourist prices. In other words, "a rip off". You were better to look for a place on your own as I seen some small eateries during your walking tour. That you for showing me some on the areas of Madives, it was one of my dreams to visit an island there. I know some of hotels on the water are far more expensive than what I would pay as well. 45 dollars was still an awful lot. Do you mean 45 U.S dollars. I live in the States in California, I can have one of the best meals at a very nice restaurant for less than 40 dollars. and a regular local Restuarant for less than 30 dollars. Even 45 dollars would have been a hugh scam for what you described you ate.
