Just discovered your channel and actually like it. Appreciate your generosity and kindness, but don’t get yourself ripped off. Filipinos love to bargain, and they expect you to do so, which is why they initially ask for such a steep price. Learn how to get a fair and decent price, and don’t just accept their initial asking price. And when you ride the tricycle, always inquire about the fare before getting in and sitting down. If not satisfied with the quoted price, you can always walk away (and go to the next vendor, shop, driver, etc.) Will catch up and watch the rest of your vlogs…

I watched several of your videos recently and I'm really liking them. I had to subscribe. I think you ought to have more subscribers. Take note that the minimum fare for riding a tricycle is P10 for a single person and it also depends on how far the travel goes. It is better that you ask the driver how much, you could haggle with the price. I remember one time, that I asked a tricycle driver on how much for the ride and he said P200. I ended up riding a jeepney just for about 5 minutes and it only cost me P8 during that time. Minimum fare now is P9 for the first 4 kilometers. I guess the food you ate is not a dessert but the main course.
@travisfein2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I made a mistake with the tricycle
@cristinasumadchat6052 жыл бұрын
@@travisfein it's ok. I'm sure you made him happy. It was a special ride, other than that, you also gave the barber P500, so just consider it a tip to the driver. Vendors here and other people who want to earn more usually charge higher to foreigners, unless the price is fixed. If you want to buy something you can make "tawad", a local term which means to lower the price, especially in the public market. Try going to Divisoria and see how good you are in haggling. It is just a ride away from Binondo.

It seems that Manila is also a city where the old and the new coexist. The first food you eat is called Zongzi, which is described as follows: (粽子/zongzi/ rice dumpling/rice ball wrapped in bamboo leaves) You can eat different tastes of zongzi/ rice dumplings in different parts of Asia. Many tourist attractions in Asia sell zongzi, especially in Taiwan. There is a large variety of zongzi across Taiwan. Zongzi is basically glutinous rice with sweet or savoury fillings wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves. The fillings used for zongzi vary from region to region, but the rice used is almost always glutinous rice. Zongzi need to be steamed or boiled for several hours. Sweet and savoury pork zongzi are very different in taste. Pork zongzi appear most often on the Dragon Boat Festival. Many food factories will launch pork zongzi on the eve of the Dragon Boat Festival. Zongzi may have originally been a seasonal food. Now zongzi are available year-round in most Taiwan major cities. The main components of salty zongzi are as follows: bamboo leaves, string, sticky rice, marinated pork, dried shiitake mushrooms, chestnuts, peanuts, dried squid, dried shrimp The tea you drink is called Bubble tea! Bubble tea also known as pearl milk tea, it is a tea-based drink that originated in Taiwan in the early 1980s. It most commonly consists of tea accompanied by chewy tapioca balls ("boba" or "pearls"), but it can be made with other toppings as well. Bubble tea has many varieties and flavors. The best Bubble tea in the world is of course in its birthplace ~ Tainan: Director Ang Lee's hometown! After that, the snack you eat is steamed stuffed bun, which is usually steamed with flour mixed with water. There are many styles. The flavor you eat is called Steamed Creamy Custard Bun, which is popular in Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. The original recipe originated from a restaurant in Hong Kong, including salted egg yolk, which has a thick and creamy aroma. Since not every restaurant knew its recipe in the early days, each restaurant's custard buns were made differently. Today, the custard filling in most places is made of cream, eggs, milk, sugar, flour , corn starch and custard powder.

Looking at your Philippine videos so far, you haven't really been to any of the great tourist attractions. I'd say use your money to visit places like Palawan. It's not scam Travis 😁 petrol is high and the driver drove you safely around with a little background info. I pay more also in other countries when I travel. I'm enjoying your videos. Stay safe and happy

But 500 pesos is too much for a tricycle ride. even for a taxi ride, it is too much. It should be only 100 pesos, the maximum. When the driver said "you", Travis didnt know. The driver must understand that he is just new in Manila. He ahould not take advantage by saying 500. Maybe 200 is ok including the tip.

Careful, there are many good and friendly people but there are some bad apples that will rip you off. It's good to have a map and calculate travel distances, routes.

The taxi guy is an opportunist. Such an embarrassment to us Filipinos.😠

Hi Travis, what they were trying to tell you was the name of the rice dumpling - "bakchang" not "matcha". In Hokkien (a Chinese dialect which the majority of Filipino Chinese speak), "bak" = meat and "chang" = dumpling. If you liked what you ate you can find this in Singapore (where I'm from), Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and most countries in the region where there is a significant population of ethnic Chinese.

As a foreigner in The Phillipines, i also get scammed by tricycle drivers. once they told me to pay 200 pesos for a 5 minute drive in boracay. they usually target foreigners cause they think they are rich. and also bring a filipino with you to avoid the scam.

Its not a scam, you were charge 500 pesos since you like rented the tricycle in private. The route you made is not actually the route of the tricycle and might result him to have a ticket from an enforcer that would actually cost 1500 pesos. You can actually ride a cab next time but nothing beats the calesa or this tricycle, we called kuliglig.
