Glad you made it out of that situation with no real issues. Just gotta know the limitations of your rig. That is the BIGGEST issue people have, is they overestimate the limits of their vehicles. I have always owned, and always will own, 4X4 rigs. Snow with a 2 wheel drive can be dangerous, especially when it is fairly deep and on an incline like that!! Stay safe and enjoy the road, where ever it may lead!!

This is the second following, but not my last, as I said before I just subscribed. Like I had said I'm doing a week at a time and will be leaving tomorrow from Kingsland GA heading to Waco TX to see the Texas Ranger museum and then down to see the WW2 of the Pacific War museum. I'm from Minnesota back when I was real young (in my 20s) and know how snow can really get you stuck. I used to go up to lake Mille Lacs and getting stuck on a ice flow while ice fishing 20 below and blowing snow. Anyway I'm glad you got out safe and heading for some repairs. Great...repairs are always good. better safe then sorry. I am just amazed at you getting in with both hands and solving the problems. Good going. I'll be watching your next story 31.

If you're goin offroad in similar conditions...ya wanna prepare. Make sure your vehicle has good frame mounted tow points. Get something like a 12k Badlands Winch either installed or mountable on your vehicle. Have an air compressor that's at least $75+, so it doesn't take 3 days to fill a tire. Carry a Jerry can, a little $20 fuel pump and hose with power wire with clamps, long enough to reach your battery. Have some basic recovery gear, traction boards, 30' strap, 4-5 3/4" shackles, soft shackles, 2 tree saver straps, a 50-100' steel cable with a snatchblock, even a cumalong may come in handy and watch some vids on using them. Always have plenty of food/water and fire making tools in case. There's also Personal Locator Devices for fairly cheap these days, some even have messaging capability. Use an Android App like GPS Status or similar that can get your Exact coordinates without phone service. Do a Screenshot of the areal view of the area so you have some idea of direction. Toss a compass in the glovebox. Watch vids on burying a log or tire to use as a land anchor if there's no trees. The live you save may be your own. I recently was on a roadtrip, 1 point I was in a fairly remote National Park. A family in a full size bus got stuck in some mud. I was prepared for myself, so grabbed a strap and yanked em out saving them a $4-500 Tow bill.

OKay,,. I just found your channel. I lived out west and worked in the oilfields from the Canadian border down to the Mexico border. I based out of Denver and later out of Casper, Wyoming. I just viewed your "camp out" in the mountains of Colorado. You mentioned you had over 3 inches of foam in the walls and ceiling, and 2 inches in the flooring. Freeze up in your discharge tubing. I've done jobs in -30 F with wind over 45 mph. ( wind chill chart tops it out at -65 F) The only way is to block the wind from getting under your van/schoolie completely. Sorta like tunneling into a snowbank/cave. Of course, you do have to dig yourself out later but it's powder snow. All you end up doing is getting hot in your clothing. Hint - do Not wear cotton long johns. Recommended is a blend of Merino wool and polyester with merino wool socks. Snowpacks necessary footwear and leather insulated mittens. 3 layers of clothing with the outer layer being windstop. Balaclava with clear safety glasses for head gear. I started biking in Minnesota in 1988, year round, and in '91 was raising a family. So,, I've been there, done that. Grocery shopping in -30 with an infant. He's 29 now. Also, learn to "chain up". Necessary for survival. And, always carry snow boots for your dog and snow shovels. Rio wasn't born with snow boots like some breeds. She looks like a very intelligent, loving mate/family member. Get a sewing machine. Leather sewing machine. And, for you? Snow shoes - unless you fancy skis. Cross country "with" a metal edge. I'm a Vietnam combat vet. Originally from Florida. You trust your instincts.

Hi from Oamaru New Zealand. In ultra extreme cold and hot conditions your best to change all engine and transmission fluids to Amsoil brand which is the first 100% synthetic. This allows u to have less oil changes which is due to extended drain cycles which helps saves mother earth.
@jesusisreal32092 жыл бұрын
conmanumber1: amsoil is status quo consumer grade gimmicks. Especially in the diesels with high pressure oil pump (hpop) which requires hydraulic engine oil to prevent oil from being compromised by hpop and oil breakdown causes injectors to slow down and stick, this problem is more prevalent in the 6.0ps vs the 7.3ps. Navistar has a formulation that is ford (motorcraft diesel oil) is the best for those two engines, though I've experienced reduced oil consumption and smoother running in late model semi truck diesel engines. If a diesel doesn't have hpop, the next best oil is from (alisyn aerospace lubricants) which if bought in 6 gal bulk is $35 per gallon vs $21 per 5 quart jug for the motorcraft diesel oil.. if a person wants the best the next step is (certified labs) their oil in the use of avrage consumer in a tight engine treated well can see 4x+ the life compared to anything sold at a retail store. Their grease in tie rods, ball joints, u joints will essentially never wear out in a person's lifetime.

I have owned and operated my own machine shop. (I don't know how many women were doing that in the 90s), and I have had a long career as an electronics technician. I've soldered microchips the size of a pin head (or smaller) to circuit boards the size of a fingernail. I've built and wired test boxes. I've made 100' long cables for airplanes that contained several different gage wires. But I've always wanted to learn how to weld, and I never did! I'm jealous AND very impressed! My husband has learned how to weld....maybe he could teach me!
