My Tipp for any future gamedevs reading this, if you want to place multiple diffrent tier housing in the same main hub cities, put the more expensive options closer to the vendors/upgrade shops/fasttravel points that the player will probably end up interacting with alot, while putting the cheaper option on the outskirts of town requiring alot more running to get to. That way the player will start with the cheap option but later "upgrade" just for the convinience to cut down traveltime.

It make sense for the setting of the game though. The expensive house are in the noble area, near the main castle or palace. Usually the rich people live there and have other people buying stuff for them. If you are wealthy in the medieval setting you would be likely to live with other wealthy people which is usually far away from the market place, be more private and quiet. For gameplay it is not that helpful because we are not actually staying in the house but rather going outside.

With that price they should have an inside garden where you can collect herbs, the kitchen should be functional where you can make foods to help buff your team like camp, and a servant you can sell goods to or upgrade equipment of that region. Glad I stuck to the small house is my first playthrough.

Ok, those listed things are gonna get a whole makeover in subsequent patches or DLC.. Or most probably by the modding community.. But DD is not as mod friendly as Skyrim.. So probably it wont get fixed..

They should give us a key or deed of the house that can carry over to new game plus, also add buffs to staying there. What's the point of buying the better houses for? Sleeping at your tent is infinitely better because you get food buffs.

The biggest problem with the expensive houses is that their locations are pretty bad. Too far from oxcarts and shops. Sure customization and a fixed portcrystal would make them more desirable, but I still wouldn't use them over the cheaper ones because of that.

at least the vermund one is right next to portcrystal.. just up the stairs from it making it closer than the 20k house... but its still too expensive for something you lose in NG+

I actually think the Verdund one is better placed than the peasant one. It's closer to the port crystal, closer to the guild hall, not too far away from the pub, closer to the tailor, closer to the bridge that leads to the elf part, Herv or whatever it's called and the road that leads to the sphinx and closer to the ox that goes to the border checkpoint and closer to the Palace which has a fair few amount of quests. Really the only thing the cheap one is closer to is the pub, slightly and the ox to melv which becomes pretty useless after everyone buggers off and the slums

Yeah, they lost a lot of possibilities from the house aspect. Interactions, bonuses, even modifying them like putting up weapons, armors, stuff you don't use anymore but look cool.

I think when i can buy both houses, in Vernworth and Bakbattahl, i should get an ox cart service of my own and a fruit stand on both ends for apples and quinces to auto ripen and sell. Otherwise I will just keep the money...

They put those houses just so you had something to use your money when you are all done, but there should be more to it. Like you said, the small house is easier to use. You enter and have a storage and bed pretty close. There should be more in those expensive houses

@@NEON-Jai Portcrystals get put into your storage though, so you have to run everywhere for the first time, and quests which normally reward a portcrystal no longer do so, meaning you only get 1 more per ng+ (sphinx).

The thing you look at in the nice house in backbathli is the moonglint bridges leading to volcanic island the other way instead of the cave yoy need to traverse before you can open the door in backbathli with the godsbane

They stop doing that if you get the Residence Permit from advancing the main story enough. But yeah they constantly harassed me too and it drove me absolutely nuts.

They need unique bonuses for each one just some ideas here I saw and came up with: Cooking, special recipes for the homes, special bonuses when combining things in your home. Port Crystal Location perhaps even an eternal ferrystone just for the house? Might be a bit much even if it was only on the expensive ones) Rest Buff for sleeping there (different per house) Some unique weapon or armor that you loot from buying the house. Maid with a lot of interactions to give the house personality (probably only the expensive ones), perhaps other services you can pay her/him for like selling things or buying things for you from within the city. Ability to "Rent" homes out to pawns. Unique pawns that you can get only from these houses. Perhaps you could rent out to player's pawns and that could give their pawns the rested bonus I mentioned earlier. Customizing Furniture, trophies. Different available furniture in different homes. Trophies provide some buff to pawns while also proccing unique dialogue with the pawns. Some of these could so easily be implemented in an update like a rest buff. I would hope for at least that. Just different buffs would aid in variety.

The only difference that I noticed is that NPCs don't show up at the expensive houses for escort quests. So, if you are doing a quest and don't want to be bothered, you can go there. Although, it's still way too expensive just for that.

They're pretty cool looking but honestly the main one I'd recommend skipping is the 300k Bakbattahl house. It's extremely out of the way of the main city and getting to it's a pain compared to the cheaper house you can buy there which is not too far from the middle of the city. I still found myself using the 200k Vernworth house just in cases where it was convenient or if I had business around the Noble's Quarter, plus it's really nice looking. Money isn't too hard to come by in the game, especially if you sell your gemstones to the right city where they're scarce, but unless you're going for collecting all the houses, you can comfortably skip the Bakbattahl one.

@@kevo300 Affinity does drop over time iirc but the cause might not have been the outright refusal. It might just be the fact that I prefer staying in Bakbattahl that made the elves Affinity drop lower with little interaction with them. But affinity does drop. Only to the point where they're either at the Like Phase, or Neutral Phase. They don't end up hating you for it.

I loved the small houses so much. They are cute and feel like a home. The bigger ones kind of feel empty and useless, even cold. I like to think of my group sitting in this small spaces and just have a good time. You don't need a big space to feel comfortable :) I just wished all pawns could come in and maybe a cute sleep animation of everyone resting.

Buy the cheaper homes in your first playthrough. Then once you've gotten the best gear and skills you'll have tons of extra money to buy the big homes in your second playthrough new game+. That's what I'm doing

Hopefully they might make a content update that adds a little something to make the expensive houses worth it. Hell, there's probably enough room to get sculptures from Fulvio in them, and could even be more reason to do more quests like his to get petrified enemies so he can make them. That, and being able to cook foods outside of camps would be neat, maybe having the option between a meal that'll remain hot for most of the day but can be eaten through the menu to activate its perks, or create a more preserved meal that doesn't run the risk of spoiling in the inventory like the roborants and dried meats/fish/spuds. Still, it is neat having the option instead of having to rely solely on the inn since only a few of them are even affordable, and that's being generous with all the talking you have to do just to access the damn storage 😆

I only knew of 2 of the houses and those 2 were the cheaper ones. I beat the game and now that I have all the end game gear and am using mods in ng+ I don't really need gold so knowing about these 2 homes is cool knowledge and a great way to spend my gold ion besides maxing out all the items. lol, I don't regret buying the expensive houses as much as I did before. They do allow me to avoid the escort quests when I don't feel like doing them. NPCs only show up at the cheap houses for help.

Funny how the brothel will give you buffs after spending a total of 108K. But your own premium home for 2-3 times the price gives nothing. They also gotta build on the romance system. Instead of Wilhelmina disappearing after her romance scene and I end up getting Sara in the ending cutscene while I got Elf girl during the Dragon bargain. Let us interact more with our romanced NPC in premium houses or something. And gain brothel buffs via food or sleep(maybe even the "seggs" scenes at will in the house?)

By the time you’re in NG+ 200 and 300k are pretty much pocket change (since you aren’t spending gold on equipment anymore you tend to always have a crap load of it) but I still don’t see the point of the expensive homes. No bonuses, no customization, no anything. Seems like something was supposed to be included with these houses that may have been cut to save time or something.

Have you noticed if npcs leave gifts at the expensive house? Im on ng+ now but i had 3 houses and noticed my high affinity npcs didnt leave bags by the front door at the expensive spot. Maybe they thought im rich, i dont need gifts lol

I actually prefer Vermund’s expensive house. Easier and quicker to access. The cheap house has a lot of turns around it and lighting is bad at night, including inside the house not to mentioned cramped so bad for the camera. The noble house is closer to everything, the castle, the shops, the ox carts and I won’t be bothered by escort requests. I used it far more than the cheap house.

That table in the middle of the smaller house is pretty annoying. I didn't know that the escort requests only show up at the smaller one. It was fun at first, but I got tired quick. I will have to use the noble house more often now too. Thanks for mentioning that! 😉

Looking at this makes me imagine that Capcom designed Dragon's Dogma 2 as an immersive fantasy sim rather than an RPG so that players could effectively just 'live' in the world. So players could pretend at nobility when making that huge purchase. It's the only explainable reason behind the tight restrictions on fast travel and how barren the super-expensive properties are compared to their cheaper kin.

That makes a whole lot of sense. To be honest I headcanon'd my Arisen as a Battahli Beastren that I ended up loving Battahl and the people in it more than I did Vernworth. Hell my favorite housing is the 300k Battahl housing since it's so close to the temple, and it looks really pretty. This is due to a few factors. 1)My favorite beloved candidates is Menella and Empress Nadinia. 2) I have a headcanon that my Arisen was formerly a priestess of the flame. Still I agree with the others that there should be more or even a carry over feature for the expensive housing. I'm doing a NG+ run and I still plan on buying all the housing. My least favorite housing has to be the Vernworth noble housing though. I'd prefer avoiding the nobles and all the hiding in disguises if at all possible. It feels so stuffy amongst them.

Good as the 300k house is, it's just way too far from all the shops around battahl. Not to mention you can't exactly do much there other than storage and bed.

What happens with the rift stones that are placed in the map when you go NG+?

A viewer commented that the port crystals get put back into your inventory. So you don't loose them, you just have to travel back to those places and put them up again.

I love this game I really do, but some of the aspects are outright stupid… I know they didn’t want constant fast travel but why didn’t they add the ability to add Oxcarts at the players descretion. Like why can’t I put an oxcart in Harve?

Easily one of those games that, first playthrough, you think it's the best thing to come out in years, then you play again and realize how many things were just done awfully. Granted there were things that were done really well too, but it's really just combat. Like that's really the one thing Dragon's Dogma is good for.

Wish you could put teophys on the walls and stuff other than the same bonus as the small houses. Why pay that much for the same thing

I wish you could cook give us some more reason to buy the houses besides free resting which is nice but still you have a whole house and cant cook anything but you can when your out on the road doesnt make sense to me i get it in the inns cause you wouldnt/shouldnt have access to the kitchens

Tbh i don't understand the reason those expansive house exist, they really need to improve the npc you have with high affinity like inviting them to drink or diner. It will be nice bcs having a big house with no one to share with it, is a bit sad.

Bought the 200k jawn in Vermund before watching this and was Big mad I wasted my money thinking there would be a bonus to the bigger house like being able to cook for rest bonuses. This is a big fumble by Capcom and now hearing it doesn't carry over. Even bigger fumble.
