Im watching the video and commenting as this goes on. 1. Don't coat the tank. Just use acids if there's much flakes you could put sand and Diesel in the tank and spin it and shake it for some time and then put acid in. The coatings usually start to chip in some point
@pb21484 жыл бұрын
Somebody else who works on motorcycles once said " If it's worth doing, it's worth over doing" maybe you should take another look at those carbs and adjust/sync the float height again. The float can really effect performance on these old Honda's.
@redlineresurrections41174 жыл бұрын
Hey Gold Guy I'm a vintage Honda mechanic that specializes in these four cylinder bikes and I even have 3 of these in the shop now getting rebuilt. I need to point out some mistakes that had me yelling watching this video. Get rid of that old fuel out of the tank first of all then get new seals for the float bowls and don't use gasket maker. You need to set the float heights correctly and not just start bending tabs or the bike will never run the way you want to. Also you never seated the carburetors back onto the boots correctly. The boots should fit flush to the carb body. Also I'm not sure if in another video if you checked the valve clearances or the points? You should have not have gone with those filters and gone with UNI pods. They are perfect fit and no rejetting.

@TheManThatCan10024 жыл бұрын
carb sync only affects idle smoothness and is the last thing you want to do after plugs filter adjustments everything. float height is relatively important. an inline fuel filter is a great thing. half your carb problems are usually in the ignition so make sure the points are proper if it has them and the timing between sides is correct. a service manual is almost necessary to know stuff like what the float height is suppose to be. and proper timing/dwell adjustments.

Great one GG!.. I've would have switched all of the needles and valves in the carburetors.. Don't know these carbs, but you'd might want to check them out from the top as well.. possible some gunk and stuff built up in there.? I think we've all been there.. Putting them carburetors on and off again,.. Several times,.. before we've got past the trouble.. Thanks for a great video, and no stress, it's real life first, right!..
@Clarkejt1124 жыл бұрын
I learned the hard way with my GS550 just replace the needles. You’ll think you’re done and it will piss gas on the side of the road with no way to fix it. With a rejet and sync that’ll be a sweet running bike. Also it seems like the older slide carbs tend to foul plugs much faster especially when one cylinder is dumping fuel into a cylinder like yours was so replace those bad boys. Can’t wait to see how this turns out!

A lot of variables to make the bike run well but what helped my cb500 out the most when it came to carb issues was cleaning out the emulsion tubes. Commonly overlooked components of the carburetors. But a lot of gunk can end up in there. Look into that and see what you find!
@lbdrummer34 жыл бұрын
These carbs have air screws somewhere. Calf. model bikes have brass plugs covering them up so you can't mess with them. Drill them out and adjust them. Most bikes come detuned from the factory. Also need to sync the carbs with a vacuum gauge. Keep up the great content!

That's definitely not all 4 firing ..... That popping is misfire. You need to check float height with clear fuel line on the over flow port and loop it up along the side of the bowl so you can see how full the bowls actually are. Also you need to synch up those carbs properly, get the right tool and hook it up to the ports that are usually capped off on the manifolds or on the carbs and bottle feed them. You have to synch up carbs by pairing 1 and 2, then 3 and 4 and then the center one in between carbs 2 and 3 will pair both carb set's. Those older CR round slide carbs take a little bit of patients cause not only is there adjustments to synch the butterfly valve's but there is also adjustments under those top caps on each carb to adjust slide and needle heights.

@Realryancurry4 жыл бұрын
You need a carb sink so that the carbs are all creating the same amount of vacuum when the slides open to all cylinders. And I think I saw one or two bad exhaust gaskets (smoke escaping from between the header and the cylinder)

Take care of those lungs, and eyes. You have two of each for a reason. Otherwise, great to see the bike is moving along! Looking forward to seeing it run with a clean tank and fresh gas.
@lavis3254 жыл бұрын
Look at your carb bowls. You got them flip-flopped. The drain screws are angled & should all point out, but now they all point in. I wouldn't be surprised if you mixed up your floats, which would set your float heights way off. Slow down & look twice before you do something. Do some reading on forums.sohc4.net. You have a lot of learning to do.
