Hey Brant, just wanted to say that watching you and the guys fish on your channels really kind of sort of quenches my fishing thirst.. I try to go every month but haven't been in several months because I live in central Georgia and not much of a freshwater guy so Im always going down to the gulf. With gas prices tho, it has been a bit hard but when I do get to go..I like to camp and fish all day and catch and cook and eat all the fish I can..Thanks for what you and the guys do..

Peacock Bass according to Wikipedia: Peacock bass (or Brazilian tucunaré) (Cichla) is a genus of large cichlids, diurnal and predatory freshwater fish native to the Amazon and Orinoco basins, as well as rivers of the Guianas, in tropical South America. They are sometimes referred to in English by their Brazilian name tucunaré or their Spanish name pavon. Despite the common name and their superficial similarity, they are not closely related to other fish known as bass, such as the North American largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides).

Yea Ron, people have definitely started to eat the exotics. Iguanas included, you use a pole to either snag with a hook, or tie the line into a noose and the pole gives extra distance before they spook. If you wanna check that out, look at a few Landshark vids. Snakehead, Knifefish, all the cichlids, iguanas, etc.

Moved to SW FL about thirty years ago, back in the day there were a lot of fishing spots that no longer exist, it's exciting to see you guys fishing some of the remaining places we still visit. You should explore places like the Picayune Strand state forest, very close to where you guys have been fishing. Thanks!
@dank8865

"... fishing spots that no longer exist...." They should put that on the damn license plates. Breaks yet balls don't it? And it's a lot of times for another strip mall with 30% occupancy that nobody wanted, asked for, nor needed. With a Kohl's, a consignment shop, and another damn Subway, lol. Welcome to Florida. 😂👍🇺🇸

@@dank8865 All my land accessed snook spots are now either concrete sea wall's with large buildings or fenced off. Boat access only if you're even able to do that. Sad, what was has become.
@dank8865
@dank8865 3 жыл бұрын
@@boogerdog5247 I went through the same thing in the 80s in Broward County. 85% of my snook fishing entailed trespassing multi-million dollar homes on the intracoastal so I could fish their seawalls & private docks @ 2, 3, 4 am. During the summer a lot of them didn't even live there, they were up north, so - no harm, no foul. 😁 But there were a dozen or so of us doing that hard-core guerilla snook fishing. The Lauderdale cops knew us & if they got called they'd just tell us that fishing was over for the night & don't get caught in that stretch again for a few months. Times have changed. But I think of the Pompano Beach of my childhood and the pier (Anglin's) my dad taught me to fish on, and what it all was like when I finally gave up & moved to Chicago - it'd like to break my heart. Hell, just what happened to Sanibel/Captiva & that whole Ft Myers area in the short time we vacationed there every year in the 70s was gut wrenching. From 73 - 81.... OMG. Good luck to you, be careful & take care.
@boogerdog5247

@@dank8865 Back at ya too! Same has happened to out spring fed rivers, no longer crystal clear sparkling blue, with ell grass, waving in the current. Weed choked coon grass, high nitrogen counts, discolored water. No longer do you see ten pound bass, or hardly any bass, but Asian non-native species. Red tide is on the march just south of here, Bradenton, Sarasota, and some in upper Hillsborough, around the power plant. We await 5 million more New Yorkers in the next year, so, lawn fertilizers will be keeping area waters in degrading status. It's a shame, when much could have been avoided if runoff and septic systems were dealt with. I recall, with my grandfather, under the Skyway Bridge, watching five acres of surface water, a white froth from Jack Crevalles, I haven't seen a flying fish, in a dark moonlit night, since I can't remember. It took Tampa Bay 30 years to get over the channel dreging for deeper hulled shipping. But, we have bananas, thanks to Port Manatee!

You're right about the male peacock having a hump when mature and they're a cichlid. They were deliberately introduced by FWC as a biological contorl for invasive cichlids like Mayans and Tilapia. The peacocks you kept would sell here in Oz for about $100 each as aquarium fish. As for the cast net - I couldn't tell you how many free nets I've scored because some fool ripped the skirt on theirs then dumped it. I always collect them and either repair them, if viable, or strip the weights and rope then bin the rest properly. I have half a dozen nets of different sizes and styles in my shed right now. Considering a cheap 8 foot net costs $90 - $110 it adds up.
@chris6054
@chris6054 3 жыл бұрын
Peacocks, even here in Florida, sell for outrageous amounts too lol. In my area (Sarasota) they haven't shown up yet, not as far north as Brant though, so I've went down and caught my daily limit and reintroduced in my area. Theres tons of tilapia and Mayan here, just no peacocks!
