@@tobitweaks It works in a nostalgic way for me, I see a lot of the same struggles from when I was restoring my Neumann console. Although it's a completely different console, it's interesting to see that the method of restoring the glory of such a console is the same for a digital one as it is for an analog one.
@tobitweaks6 ай бұрын
@Whiteseastudio I thought so, too! Maybe as it is early digital it is still close to the analog consoles in terms of concept? Anyways I actually think about your Seem Console Project a lot and wonder what exactly was missing. The Bus Amplifiers? My Friends from Noway love these consoles :) All the best, Tobi

I just LOVE those DSP's and cards.. and external computers.. and the way you managed to put them to work again !!!!!..... I know some carts are still on the OLD PCI slot format... just wondering if you could like try to use a more modern Motherboard an use a PCI to PCI-X adapter and see if you can make it work ... just wondering. Thanks a lot !! viele Danke Tobias!!!

Love the content. Please check that the static pressure of the new Fans is enough. Low noise Fans don't push as much cfm as the old ones and you will not get enough airflow to cool the Equipment and might cause a sooner death than wanted.
@mudi2000a6 ай бұрын
Very good point. Also when mounting the stuff in a cabinet with doors you need to take care that the cabinet is well ventilated or just don’t use a door. I worked some time in place where we had a data center and we used only doors with holes for the air circulation.
@tobitweaks6 ай бұрын
I‘ll check everything with a thermal camera to make sure nothing overheats. Most Heat right now comes from the DSPs in the IBM Mainframe - these only have the Fans in the case that originally wait for 60* air temperature before they spin up 🤔 More on that in the next episodes! Thank you for your tips and all the best, Tobi

@McCavity26 ай бұрын
@@tobitweaks Nah, that knowledge is long gone… I used to run my home PC on Windows NT for a long time before eventually switching to XP and ATM was an important topic on my first job assignment - but not on Windows but rather on Sun Solaris and Sinix / Reliant Unix (the Siemens Spinoff)… but as I said: these times are long gone and I haven’t touched either technology ever since. It‘s a bit unfortunate as it is really interesting and quite powerful - we used to be able to do QoS (traffic shaping) back at the end of the 90‘s over ATM lines which was otherwise unheard of at that time - but today it’s largely being obsoleted by both FibreChannel and, even more so, good ol’ Ethernet. Your average run-of-the-mill home router is more powerful today than the ATM switches we used back then. :-)

This is so cool! For fine-tuning the dynamics and EQ, perhaps there is a ‘SHIFT’ or ‘FINE/COARSE’ key or the equivalent that lets u change the modes of the encoder potentiometers to provide a finer resolution? The Tascam DM series has a similar ability - when u hold down the SHIFT key the encoder knobs are .1 the resolution.

By the way, where do the other screens go to? Does the PC in the control surface have three display outputs (which would be odd for how old it is), or is it done somehow else?

I am sort of torn between the cool idea of having a console like that and not it being a good idea because of how much it costs to maintain and run one.
@tobitweaks6 ай бұрын
Hi! It depends on who is doing the maintenance but as these desk are actually supposed to be super maintenance free once they run (from what I heard) you‘d just be left with a power bill of 80cents per hour (2kWh) that could ramp up to 64€ per Month if you run this desk 20hrs/week. Bit also you need the space to operate this wich could also be considered „running costs“ ;) Hope that helps. All the best, Tobi
