Hallo Tobi, the power supply from the mixing desk has an output voltage of 5V and 25A., i.e. 125W. I assume other supplies would provide the typical 24V. I believe it a mixing desk it may not impossible that these power supplies are linear to avoid digital noise. The power supplies in the server are switched and as you can see one rail alone as 300W (5V 58A), so they are much more efficient (with the digital noise, but in a computer you don't care). I would not try to separate the PSU from the chassis - you will run in a lot of problems. One fix might be to use modern fans with regulated speed - or simply move the rack some place else. I really like your channel ! Viele Grüsse - Matthias

@@matthiasfouquet-lapar9669 Hi! Thank you very much for your input! Yes I heard that you can get problems if you move out power supplies with extension cables…first step for me would be to add more ventilation to the server schrank, from that yeah regulated fans should do it, I don‘t think the power supplies need them on full speed…but I‘ll have to test with a thermometer. All the best, Tobi

@@tobitweaks I love seeing in depth troubleshooting, plus I get better at it myself, so thank you for both aspects : ) Looking FW to see this all done!

Another really useful tool for cloning disks and making a partition bootable is a gparted live cd. You can even make a folder with windows files into a bootable OS by creating a new partition of the right format (fat16 or 32 most likely), copying in the files and setting the "boot" flag using gparted.

Tobi, regarding power supplies those are a bit odd witch this 2.1V rail. But, fan in them looks like a 80mm standard fan, if you are lucky those will be 12V, you could swap them with something quieter like noctua, arctic or gelid. Take a powersupply offline and wait about 15 min before you open it. There are a capacitors inside that might give a good shock (400V big ones). 15 min is usualy what takes them to self discharge. A good look inside is also a good idea. Capacitors at this age like to go poof or leak. Also you can buy new fiber optics cables (newer one sare much more durable to flexing) things to search for will be dual multimode (orange or aqua, not yellow) SC APC (connetors) patchcord. Greating from Poland :)

Hi! Thanks for all your tips!!! I do have Arctic Fans installed already - they come with an integrated heat sensor so I could run them on lower speeds if I place these sensors somewhere colder. They just run on full speed now pretty quickly…Check my older videos I had these supplies open already :) Also thanks for the tips on the fiber optics! will have to buy some new ones soon. What a beast of a mixing network hiding itself as a console... I'd love to see that one operating a appropriate size of a show!
@tobitweaks2 ай бұрын
Hi! Yes the networking behind it is super powerful. Also I am already collecting recordings to mix on this in a full size scale - with 80 possible inputs on the console I could fill these and I will show this hopefully very soon! All the best, Tobi

I doubt you will be able to go completely passive-cooling on those PSU's... Although the "overall" temperature might not go super high many individual components/designs rely on an active airflow passing over them to "distribute" the locally generated heat.
@tobitweaks2 ай бұрын
I think so too…will probably just drastically reduce the fan speed but not go zero. Read something from a PSU manufacturer that you achieve best results with passive cooling and minimal airflow. All the best, Tobi

@@tobitweaks also if you are aiming to get faster boot times, then you could consider some small upgrades. The Asus P2B-S motherboard you are running should be able to run a 1ghz coppermine pentium 3 cpu and up to 1gb of ram (at least with the latest 1024 bios - you are currently running 1022) - instead of the 500mhz P3 and 160mb ram that you currently have in it..... - those "old" upgrades should be cheap to find 2nd hand and require minimal effort to upgrade, how much of a boost they will give is hard to say exactly - but might aswell max out the capabilities of the motherboard currently installed ;-)
