Oh a couple of the times I was the bridesmaid, I was expected to pay for the bachelorette party,bridal shower, gifts for the brides, take care wedding decorations, guest invitations. Drive to get the dry cleaning & cakes. Put up & take down wedding decorations.I don't have that kind of money & energy but felt that I didn't have much choice if I want to be there for them. Really hope my friends would have been more considerate and ask if I could afford all these expenses & do all these things for them ( I am a mother, I have other obligations towards my family & kids).

Being in the bridal party is work! This is too much to ask in my opinion, especially since bridal party usually also purchases their own bridesmaid dresses, bridal shower gifts, travel/night before wedding and morning of wedding costs if applicable, and wedding gifts. Just my opinion, even if the bride is willing to cover others.

I just got married a few weeks ago. No bachelorette party, no engagement party, and only 5 guests brought gifts to our wedding. Who comes to a wedding empty handed? Like not even a card with well wishes? My husband’s entire side of the family didn’t contribute in any way and couldn’t be bothered to write a card?! Yes, they can afford it and no, no one traveled more than a 1 hour drive to our wedding. We should have eloped and spent the money on an insane honeymoon.
@burymebelowawillowtree92434 ай бұрын
Might be getto, but years ago, we rented a community gym, most everyone invited was asked to bring something, dish, water, soda…no alcohol since it’s a no no in this centers. Some friend provided free music. Asked everyone not to bring gifts. Donate it instead to a local charity and we had a blast. Zero regrets, no debts.

Unpopular opinion, but if you’re asking your friends to do all of this for you & to celebrate you, you should be paying for it. I’m getting married in January and this is why I never wanted a bridal party. I would never ask my friends to invest so much in me financially, to celebrate something I chose to do (get married).
@avalonsignoraalmas61504 ай бұрын
Different strokes for different folks. Not everyone wants to or can do that. Does that mean they can't celebrate? A lot of times, friends don't mind, but of course they shouldn't be pressured.

Most people can't afford to cover $1000+ expense for 5 other people. That said, the price point wasn't crazy for all that they did and people were free to find an airfare that worked for them. And she did offer financial assistance for anyone who needed/wanted it. Seems fair enough.

I love that you sent out a survey and offered to pay…but it still rubs me the wrong way that an affluent (rich bff) wouldn’t automatically cover expenses people are accruing for her wedding. Can we normalize having the bride/groom pay for all bridal expenses as well? I would never want my friends to pay anything if they are doing us the favor of accompanying us as part of our wedding, it’s ridiculous that the expectation to pay to participate is on the wedding party vs the hosts of the party 😅

Great idea on the survey. My take: I’d feel weird to say I can’t afford my expenses, but I’d pay for my part. Meanwhile, my budget is 0 when it comes to fun, but, again, I’ll pay when I commit or I decide that need or want to do something.
@Josy55271674 ай бұрын
I did this for one of my bridesmaid who came from Asia to the states for my wedding. I paid for her portion of the bachelorette activities and stay.
